Disable startup programs in Windows 7. How to remove programs from startup

Almost every program installed on a computer strives to place itself in startup. Therefore, there are more and more icons in the system tray (Tray - next to the clock), and the loading time of the operating system is increasing every day!

In most cases, there is no need to automatically download programs. How to disable autoloading of the program and reduce the number of icons near the clock?

Removing programs from startup in Windows 7 is done like this.

Press the START button 1, then enter the word in the search line 2 msconfig and press the search button 3. Although, most likely, you will not need to press a button - the search will be performed automatically.

Rice. 2

Under the name msconfig, 1 program was found (Fig. 2). Click on the name msconfig.exe

Rice. 3

The System Configuration window will open (Figure 3). In this window, select the Startup tab (circled in red pencil).

Rice. 4

. Its general appearance is as in Fig. 4. The only programs you will have are those that are on your computer, and not the same as mine.

In the list of startup items, identify those programs that blatantly load when Windows starts, place their icons next to the clock, and sometimes even open their dialog boxes when no one asked them to!

In my picture you see: programs that run automatically are ticked. But this is the tip of the iceberg! Below is a list several times larger of programs whose autorun is disabled.

Your actions on this tab are to remove checkmarks from programs that are loaded without permission when Windows starts, and you don’t want that!

Of course, by name Startup item It can be difficult to determine which program this item belongs to. Then look at the folder of which program the Command leads to. If you cannot see the entire Command line, then use your mouse cursor to drag the separator element between the words Command and Location to the right. Then the whole line will open.

Antivirus programs and firewalls do not need to disable startup.

In addition, for example, I have the Punto Switcher program that automatically switches Russian and English keyboard layouts. When you work on the Internet, this program is simply irreplaceable. Naturally, you will get tired of launching it yourself every time. Therefore, the best option is when it is in startup.

But the programs Download Master, Adobe Reader and many others can be launched if necessary - why do they need to hang around in startup all the time.

After you remove the checkmarks from some programs, click the Apply and then OK buttons (Fig. 4). The following message appears.

Rice. 5

If you want to immediately admire the result of your actions, then click the Reboot button. And if you are not in a hurry, then click the Exit button without rebooting, and all the changes you have made will take effect after the next shutdown of the computer or reboot.

If the result is unexpected - I somehow accidentally disabled the system clock along with the language bar, don't worry! Just check the boxes again, reboot and everything will return to its place!

Removing programs from startup in Windows XP

In Windows XP, removing programs from startup is done like this. Click the Start button and open the main menu.

Rice. 6

In the main menu, click the Run button.

Rice. 7

The Launch Program window will open. In the Open field type: msconfig and click OK.

Rice. 8

The System Settings window will open in front of you. You will see 6 tabs in it. There are five tabs where you don't need to touch anything! Immediately click the cursor on the tab -. Its general appearance is as in Fig. 8. Only the programs you will have are the ones you installed, and not the same as mine.

In my picture you see: green checkmarks indicate programs that start automatically. But this is the tip of the iceberg! Below is a list several times larger of programs whose autorun is disabled.

Look through the list of programs and remove the green checkmark in front of the programs that you think are unnecessary.

After you select the startup items to disable, click the Apply and then OK buttons (Fig. 8). The following message will immediately appear.

Rice. 9

If you want to immediately admire the result of your actions, then click the Reboot button. And if you are not in a hurry, then click the Exit button without rebooting, but the changes you have made will still take effect after the next shutdown of the computer or reboot.

Disabling startup in Windows XP and Windows 7 is similar, so in order not to repeat yourself, you can see my tips under Figure 4.

Disabling programs in Windows 10 startup

It’s easier and faster to disable startup programs in Windows 10 via Task Manager.

To open the Task Manager, press the keys Ctrl+Shift+Esc and a window appears in front of us:

Disabling startup programs in Windows 10

In the Task Manager window, click the Startup tab. The tab displays a list of programs installed on your computer, where the Startup Status is indicated: enabled or disabled.

Click on the program for which you want to disable autoloading. The line will be highlighted in blue1. Click the Disable 2 button and autorun of this program during Windows boot will not work.

By the way, on button 2, instead of the Disable command, Enable will appear. That is, if you accidentally disabled the wrong program, you can correct the error and, by pressing the button again, enable autoloading of this program.

Having a program automatically launch when your computer boots is a handy feature, and it's worth using if you have a basic set of applications that you always keep open. Some programs have their own settings in which you can set them to launch automatically every time you start Windows; others do not have such functionality, but the operating system allows you to do this. In this article, we will look at how to disable auto-loading of programs using Windows and, if necessary, enable automatic launch of individual applications.

Starting with Windows 7, the standard “Task Manager” of the operating system has a lot of useful functions and serves not only to terminate frozen programs and diagnose the load on computer components. In particular, the “Startup” item has appeared in the “Task Manager”, which displays all programs that automatically start when Windows boots. To get to this point, call the task manager by pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys and select the “Startup” tab at the top of the window that opens.

To disable startup of an application in Windows through the “Task Manager”, you need to right-click on a specific program in the list and select “Disable”.

Please note that the Task Manager also displays the impact of a specific application on the startup speed of the operating system. Through the "Task Manager" you cannot add new programs to automatic loading when the computer starts.

How to enable or disable autorun of programs through the registry

The registry allows you to access almost any function of the operating system. In particular, through it you can configure a list of programs that are automatically loaded when Windows starts. To do this, you need:

  1. Press the Windows + R key combination on your keyboard and enter the command regedit;
  2. Next in the registry, go to the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Run

It should be noted that according to the instructions above, program startup parameters are set for the user on whose behalf the registry is currently being edited. If you want to set parameters for all users, in the left side of the registry editing window, right-click on the Run folder and select “Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section.” After that, follow the procedures to add or remove a program from the startup list.

You can enable autoloading of individual applications through a special folder. It is enough to place a program shortcut in it so that it automatically starts every time Windows boots. To go to this folder, just press the Windows + R key combination on your keyboard and enter the command in the “Run” window shell:startup.

It should be noted that this folder does not contain all programs that are set to start automatically when the operating system starts. You cannot disable system applications through it.

Experienced users are familiar with the situation when, after a new installation of Windows, the computer simply flies, but over time its performance decreases and strange behavior appears. Automatically launched programs play an important role in this. A clean system has practically no utilities or other software that starts at startup, but it accumulates. And as a result, the computer slows down, and the user wastes his nerves. Proper setting of automatic start solves this situation.

How to disable autoloading of the program and reduce the number of icons near the clock

Why do you need to remove programs from startup?

When installing new software, the user without hesitation clicks on the “Next” button, without even reading what will happen to his computer. But software developers build into it various “chips” that start when the system starts.

Let's look at the situations in which you need to clean startup:

  1. The computer began to boot slowly.
  2. Decreased performance.
  3. The appearance of unnecessary reminders and pop-ups when turned on.
  4. Malfunctions.

Important! Setting up autorun is the first action on the list of those that help solve performance problems.

Removing unnecessary programs from startup does not have a positive effect on other applications, since they are given more PC resources. Setting up automatic startup is especially relevant for owners of low-power laptops, netbooks and outdated PCs where there is no excess RAM or processor power.

Important! Even software that is invisible to the user running on a PC consumes resources.

Why do programs start automatically?

  • the need to inform the user;
  • setting up automatic updates;
  • accelerated start of software at startup;
  • quick access to program functions;
  • brand promotion and advertising.

There are a number of useful programs that require automatic downloading:

  • firewall;
  • antivirus;
  • software for device emulation;
  • drivers.

There is no need to remove useful software from autorun. This will lead to loss of stability or problems in work.

Removing programs from startup

There are two ways to configure autorun: OS tools and third-party utilities. The use of utilities is rarely required, and they themselves also load the system. It is better to use programs when you turn on the computer using the built-in tools in Windows.

Windows offers several ways to configure startup programs:

  • msconfig utility;
  • registry editor;
  • Task Manager (Windows 8 and higher only).

Important! You can disable programs when you start your computer using the Registry Editor, but this should only be done by experienced professionals. Interfering with its operation may result in the OS becoming inoperable.

Disabling startup using Msconfig in Windows 7

One way to view startup and disable unnecessary things in Windows 7 is the MSConfig utility. It allows you to manage OS startup parameters.

Important! Be careful when using the utility and remember the last steps so as not to disrupt the operation of your computer.

Let's look at how to configure programs to autostart when you turn on the computer:

  • Launch the “Run” command by pressing the Win+R buttons on your keyboard.
  • Enter msconfig in the only field of the window that opens and confirm the action by pressing Enter.
msconfig is a configuration utility for the Windows operating system.
  • Go to startup by selecting the appropriate tab
Autoload data
  • Disable unnecessary programs by unchecking the boxes next to them.

Advice. It is worth disabling the torrent when you turn on the computer, while in the autorun management tab of MSConfig. When you click on the link, it will start on its own, and the OS startup speed will increase.

Another tab of this utility deserves attention - “Services”. It allows you to turn off unnecessary services. You should not disable Microsoft services or antivirus software, but you should disable third-party update services. You can completely remove Skype from autorun only if you disable it on both tabs. The situation with other programs is similar.

Advice. Be careful when editing the list of services that are started automatically. Disabling the necessary ones will affect the operation of the OS.

Services that start automatically

After confirming the changes with the Ok button, the utility will ask you to restart the computer. If the necessary applications were accidentally disabled, they are returned to startup by performing the steps in the reverse order.

Changing startup using Windows 8 Task Manager

In Windows 8, Microsoft has changed the layout of many elements. It became possible to enter startup through the “Task Manager”.

Let's look at how to find downloads on a computer with Windows 8:

  • We enter the “Task Manager”.
  • Click on the desired program and click “Disable”.

    Programs included in startup

Viewing downloads on your computer through the “Task Manager” is more convenient and accessible to inexperienced users.

Enabling automatic start back occurs here. For inactive applications, the “Disable” button will change to “Enable”.

What programs can be removed

The program developer includes in the download modules that are not needed by most users, there is no need to run all update checking services and you need to turn off all unused applications.

Worth knowing. Programs will continue to be updated even if the corresponding modules are disabled; only the check will occur when the application is launched.

Let's look at what you can safely disable:

  • Unused modules for installed programs.
  • Skype and other instant messengers. They should be launched as needed.
  • Update tools.

There is no need to disable antiviruses and security tools. This will compromise security and disrupt system functionality. Now you know how to stop programs from starting automatically when you turn on your computer.

How to disable startup programs m starting with the operating system? Hello admin! Two months ago I installed two operating systems, Windows 7 and Windows 8, and now they both slow down and freeze, and take forever to load.

In Windows 7, I launched the built-in msconfig utility, went to the “Startup” item and disabled everything there: Skype (a program for communicating over the Internet), Download Master (a file downloader), DAEMON Tools Lite (working with ISO images), Zune Launcher (a program for phone) and so on, by the way, I found one virus. Two weeks later I looked at startup, and some programs were there again. Do you know why this is so? I worked with all these programs for two weeks and upon startup they again installed their services in startup. What to do? My computer is powerful and can handle it, but it’s still a shame, a month ago Windows loaded in 15 seconds, but now it takes 40 seconds.
. The situation with it is better, after two weeks only a few programs returned to startup without permission, but the programs that I reinstalled all quietly went into startup.

Following your advice, I installed the AnVir Task Manager program, launched it, the program is good and does not allow anything to autoload and warns about everything, but what’s interesting is that I found the All Records tab in this program, and was stunned, there are 500 records there, and that’s all I have in startup! Andrey.

How to disable startup programs

Hello friends, it’s quite easy to disable startup of any program; you can do this using the “msconfig” utility in Windows 7 and the Task Manager in Windows 8. In addition, you can go into the settings of any program and uncheck the “Run when Windows starts” option. .

Another thing is a little more difficult - to prevent a certain program from being installed into startup on your computer, and this cannot be done without one good free program.

The whole secret is that most programs, when installed on your computer, will not ask your permission to go into startup, it will just go through and that’s it, and you won’t even know about it.

Today I will tell you two interesting stories, and at the same time we will find out how to disable startup programs in the Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems and how to prevent the program from starting up again.
If you have reinstalled the operating system and are actively using it - installing various programs, drivers (printer, scanner, camera...), antiviruses, and so on, then literally after a month there are so many of these programs that loading Windows is very slow. And the most important thing is that users simply don’t know (and most don’t care) where to find all these programs that slow down the loading of the operating system; they only realize it after Windows starts loading and working very slowly.

In Windows 7, you can disable startup programs using the msconfig utility built into the operating system.
Start, Run, msconfig,

In Windows 8, you can disable a program from startup directly in the Task Manager in a special Startup tab. For example, remove the Skype program from startup, call the Task Manager,

In my opinion, the most important mistake of users is that they control the startup of programs only using the tools built into Windows, which cannot show all the programs that are in startup, and even more so cannot stop the services of programs included in startup. When users install the AnVir Task Manager program, specially created to control startup, and see everything that is actually going on in their startup, they remain in shock for a long time after that, watching numerous unnecessary services and processes, sometimes even remote programs.
To emphasize the seriousness of the situation, I want to tell you this. Working for several years on the Windows 7 operating system, which had a licensed antivirus with the latest updates installed, a firewall and the AnVir Task Manager program (a program that monitors startup, which will be discussed later), I found myself in this situation about once a week. Working on the Internet, I often had to go to unfamiliar sites (like all of you), sometimes in search of drivers, and sometimes for necessary information. So, during the day I was browsing a lot of sites and being on some web pages, harmless at first glance, the AnVir Task Manager program installed on me (which controls startup) quite often signaled me with this window:

saying that an unfamiliar program is rushing into my startup, and this is with complete silence and connivance. Such programs, my friends, are nothing more than a complete virus.
I foresee your question, what will happen if you don’t have the AnVir Task Manager program and the program quietly goes into startup? And it will be approximately what I described in my articles “” and “”. This is how we catch viruses with you.
True, with the advent of the Windows 8 operating system, the situation has become a little better; all programs that are in startup can already be seen more clearly in the Task Manager in the Startup tab. The system, according to Microsoft, is better protected and so on. Although a small problem remains. All programs, when installed, still quietly go into startup.

I’ll tell you another interesting case, in which I’ll tell you in detail how to disable startup programs.

One of my classmates asked me to reinstall his operating system and install a package of free programs. Three months ago, he purchased a laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed. His entire family used this laptop, even without each family member. And now the laptop freezes, takes a long time to load and slows down. My friend agreed to my proposal not to reinstall the system, but to figure out the reason for the long loading time of the system.
To see all the programs that are in the startup of the new Windows 8 operating system, launch the Task Manager and select the Startup item. Friends, we look carefully at everything that is in my friend’s autoload, as we see what is not there. Please note that he even has two antiviruses installed

And this despite the fact that the Windows 8 system also has a built-in one, which can also work. Of course, in this case the computer will not boot in 4 seconds. My friend claims that he installed the second antivirus just for fun and then deleted it. But the facts indicate the opposite, the antivirus program works, we remove the second antivirus program correctly, through the “Install or change a program” panel

A more interesting picture of startup will open if we install the AnVir Task Manager program, official website http://www.anvir.net/. If after reading our article you want to download and install this program, then be sure to read our article, it contains a more detailed description of working with the utility.

Note: if you open the “All entries” item, then all files, drivers, services, registry keys will open, that is, quite redundant information for a novice user, but in fact you can figure it out (for example, I have about four hundred in startup all sorts of codecs and filters for working with video).

1) Drivers for C-Media sound card. It’s quite strange how they got here, because the built-in sound card on my friend’s Realtek computer, we disable the C-Media drivers from startup or remove them altogether.

2) DAEMON Tools Lite is a good program for creating disk images and emulating virtual CD/DVD drives. They use it once a week, so it is not needed in autoload either.

3) The Download Master program is needed to download files, but the owner of the computer does not even know about it and has never used it, disable the program from startup, if necessary, launch it manually.

4) Skype (a program for communicating via the Internet), if you don’t use it all the time, uncheck it.

5) The process ZuneLauncher.exe belongs to the Zune program from Microsoft. Using this program, you can exchange files and synchronize music, images, video files on your computer and phone running Windows Phone. The strangest thing is that my friend has a Samsung phone based on Android, and so does his wife and child, which means he doesn’t need the Zune program at all. Disable the program from startup or, better yet, delete it.

In “Services” at the very top there are two services related to the HP laser printer; we will not touch these services. The TeamViewer 8 service, which belongs to the very good remote access program TeamViewer, is also available here in startup (for those interested, read the article). But unfortunately, my friend doesn’t remember exactly who installed it and why. We remove it from startup, if necessary, you can start it like that, disable it from startup.

That's basically it.

We reboot the computer and after the reboot our Windows 8 literally came to life. In my opinion, all the problems were caused by the second antivirus program.

But what do we see, all our programs removed from startup ask to go there again, we kick them out through the door, and they climb out the window, what a misfortune.

Check the box Don't ask again about this startup item and click Remove. If you want, send the program to quarantine.
If you want to return the desired program to startup, you can do this in the settings of the AnVir Task Manager program.

In this way, with the help of this program you will instantly bring order to your startup.

Automatic launch of applications is a very useful feature in Windows. If you know that a utility should always work, you can add it to the list - and the system will launch it independently at startup. However, if there are too many applications in this list, your computer may not have enough resources. In this case, it will load very slowly or even freeze at startup. This publication describes how to disable auto-start of unnecessary applications in Windows 7.

Often the autorun list includes instant messengers (Skype), torrent trackers, cloud service clients (Google Drive), anti-virus systems and modules for auto-updating some programs. Users who are interested in computer games often add clients like Steam or Battle.net here.

This service is very convenient. It allows you not to be distracted by launching many utilities when the OS starts. All you have to do is turn on your computer and you can immediately open the program you need and start working.

Often, when installing software, it independently adds itself to this list. This creates an unnecessary load on the resources of the personal computer. The system takes longer to boot because it wastes time on applications that you probably won't use at all. In this case, you can disable autostart programs.

Program settings

You can disable autorun of programs directly from the configuration menu. In every application that requires autoloading, you can find this option and turn it off. This guide looks at how to disable autorun using the popular instant messenger Skype as an example:

The next time you start the operating system, this program will no longer be enabled automatically. Most other utilities are disabled in the same way.

system configuration

You can also use an internal utility called System Configuration. With its help, users have the opportunity to centrally enable or disable automatic loading of various programs. Before you disable autorun programs in Windows 7, you must run this utility. To do this, you need to follow a few simple steps, as indicated in the instructions.
