New Samsung Galaxy s8 edge. Samsung Galaxy S8 review - detailed characteristics of the flagship. Get rid of icon frames

Samsung has packed a crazy amount of features into the Galaxy S8 and S8+. This is nowhere near the insane level of software bloat we've seen on some Samsung devices. You can spend hours clicking through the menus, hoping to stumble across all the cool things this phone can do. Or you can read this guide to learn all the secrets, all about the best Galaxy S8 tips and tweaks to get the most out of your new smartphone.

Watch the video review of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus:

Customize navigation buttons

Samsung has finally caught up with the times and moved to on-screen navigation buttons, meaning you can customize them to your liking. The default layout is similar to other Samsung phones, with a Back button on the right and an Overview button on the left. You can change it to the standard Android back-home-overview layout by selecting Settings > Display > Navigation Bar. Here you can also change the background color of the navigation bar. Remember, the Home button is pressure sensitive. It works with firm pressure even when the display is off. At the bottom of the navigation bar menu, you can change the level of pressure required to trigger the button.

Set up or turn off Hello Bixby

Samsung's smart assistant Bixby isn't very smart yet, so you probably won't use it. At the same time, when you press the physical Bixby button, a screen called “Hello Bixby” appears. You'll also find this screen to the left of the main Home screen panel. It's a bit like Google Now, but not as good. You can customize Hello Bixby to show information more useful to you—by default, it has things you don't want, like random Giphy animations and suggested themes in the Samsung store. Click the gear icon in the top right corner to edit cards and customize what they display. If you don't want to use Bixby on your home screen, you can enter edit mode by pressing and holding the spacebar, then turn off the switch above the Bixby panel.

Get rid of icon frames

The icons on the Samsung home screen are all squircles, and third-party apps you install will be enclosed in white squircle frames. It's consistent, but not very attractive. To get rid of icon frames, go to Settings > Display > Icons. Change it to "Icons Only" and you're done.

Reorganize applications

The default sort in the Galaxy S8's apps folder is "custom," which is a fancy way of saying "you'll never find anything." You should immediately change it to alphabetical order by opening the folder, clicking the menu button, and selecting Sort. Unlike previous versions of Samsung's Home screen, the apps folder will remain in alphabetical order even when you install new apps.

Faster unlocking via iris scanner

Samsung decided to put the Galaxy S8's fingerprint sensor in a really awkward spot on the back of the phone, so you'll want to familiarize yourself with the iris scanner. It works surprisingly well, and you can make it even more convenient to use with a few tweaks. You can add Iris Scan in Settings > Lock screen & security > Iris Scan. Make sure Iris unlock is turned on so you can unlock your phone by looking at it, then turn on Iris unlock when screen turns on. In this mode, you don't have to swipe the lock screen to enter iris scanning mode. Just wake up your phone by looking at it and it will immediately unlock.

Selecting Display Calibration Mode

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ have several display calibration modes available in the settings. The default calibration is a responsive mode that includes custom color sliders to adjust colors to look the way you want. Some GS8 owners find the display too red, but you can change this using the sliders. There are also AMOLED Photo, AMOLED Cinema and Basic modes. Basic mode offers the most accurate colors of the sRGB specification, while Adaptive has an expanded color gamut.

Changing the default volume level

When you press the volume key, the default action is to change the ringer volume. How often do you need to change it? Changing the media volume is more useful and you can set it to default. Just go to Settings > Sound & Vibration. There you will find "Default Volume Control". Tap it and select Media.

Set up Always-on display

Samsung's Always-on display feature allows you to see basic information about your phone without waking you up. This feature drains your battery a bit, so either turn it off or adjust it to make the battery drain more worthwhile. Always-on display appears in Settings > Lock screen & security > Always-on display. The display style can be changed to different clock, calendar, photo or minimal clock on the edge. On the other hand, Always-on display does not always have to be turned on. At the bottom of the settings screen is a toggle for "Always-on display". Disable it and you can set a schedule to turn it on and off.

Editing the Edge panel

There is no flat version of the Galaxy S8, so it's time to make friends with the Edge Screen. It's a small tab on the right edge of the screen that shows you various shortcuts and tools when shooting. You can customize what you see on the edge screen by tapping the gear icon at the bottom or going to Settings > Display > Edge Screen. The Edge screen can be turned off if you don't want to use it, but set up Edge Panels first. There are almost a dozen panels by default, including a handy clipboard manager and weather. Don't forget to click the menu button in the top right corner to rearrange the panels and edit the Edge Screen. You can make the panel larger, smaller, more transparent, or even change its location.

Improved multitasking with Snap Window

The Galaxy S8 runs Nougat, so it uses the standard Android multi-window system. However, Samsung has added a small bonus in the form of Snap Window. You'll find the Snap button right next to the split-screen button on the app cards in the multitasking interface. Tapping lets you define a section of your app that will remain at the top of the screen while you use the bottom section for another app. It is an ideal solution for streaming videos on Snap Window as it takes up less space and will continue playing even if it loses focus.

Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge has already proven that its appearance is worth waiting for, although the release of the new product will take place in the second quarter of 2017. Samsung is a luxury smartphone maker and this time it takes the Edge concept to the next level.

The Galaxy S8 Edge will be the third model and curved edges in the S line. The new concept will embody many unique features, including greater viewing angles and better performance. You can expect a slightly larger screen, faster speeds, more expandable internal memory, more options, a faster processor, and more.

This preview includes information about the upcoming launch, including everything you need to know about the new S8 Edge.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge rumors

The bravest Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge rumors carry the idea of a foldable smartphone concept. We've been hearing about this for a few years now and new rumors suggest that the new S8 Edge could feature a foldable design. The manufacturer officially announced that the foldable flagship will be presented in 2017, thereby adding fuel to the fire.

The foldable smartphone will include not one, but two displays. This concept is truly unique. Early rumors about the S8 Edge confirm that this device is unique, so many analysts believe that the S8 Edge will be one of the.

According to rumors, the price of the new S8 Edge will be lower than originally expected. There was talk of $1000 for US residents, but again, this is very unlikely. We can assume that the S8 Edge will be priced the same as the GS6, which means it will cost around $900 or 820 euros.

One of the biggest drawbacks of previous launches is that customers in small markets had to wait for 2-3 months after the launch of the smartphone in large markets such as the UK, US, Germany and others. This time, the company wants to make more smartphones before the actual launch, thereby reducing delays and covering more markets around the world.

Other rumors include better security with a responsive retina scanner, a 4K display, an eight-core processor, and more. Read on for S8 Edge specifications, features, pricing, and release date.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Specifications

Galaxy S8 Specifications imply that we are looking at an updated S7 Edge, which includes new components such as iris recognition technology, fast wireless charging, and high-quality sound reproduction.

Edge should become more sensitive to swipe controls, which will help reduce accidental touches and make the device more responsive. I'd also like to see a slightly larger screen size, as rumors suggest it will only be 3.5 inches, but it will be a true 4K display with a resolution of 4096 x 2160.

Other specifications include a large battery, dual micro SD card slots, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and an octa-core processor clocked at 3.2 GHz.

Detailed technical specifications of the Galaxy S8 Edge:

Features of Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge

Some of the features of the Galaxy S8 include an iris scanner, 4K recording, a new version of Gorilla Glass, and fast charging technology. The included wired charger is rumored to be able to fully charge the phone from 0% to 100% in 30 minutes. Wireless charging takes a little longer, about 45 minutes, but these results are better than the 7 Edge.

Unfortunately, neither the S8 or S8 Edge will be waterproof. But there is good news: the smartphone will support Bluetooth 5.0 and will come pre-installed with the latest version of the Android operating system, which will be released just a few months before the launch of the S8 Edge.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge Concept

Overall, the Galaxy S8 Edge concept aims to create a mobile device that can literally do everything. When it comes to mobile technology, Samsung is ready to use all the latest developments that will connect the smartphone and the car and will be able to offer a wide range of payment options from the phone. When it comes to Android Pay and Samsung Pay, improving security will be at the forefront.

The surround sound experience will be even longer lasting with new Corning Gorilla Glass on the front and back of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge price

Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge price will be slightly higher than the price of the standard S8. For the US it will be $850, while in other countries it will cost $1,100. In Russia, the S8 Edge will cost about 56,404 rubles.

Pre-order Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge

Pre-ordering a new device is the best way to get the latest release on launch day, and it's the best way to get the new Edge in April. Retailers around the world will offer pre-orders of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge after its official announcement at MWC.

It will also be interesting to see what colorways will be offered, as blue and green versions have become the two most popular color options.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge release date

Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge release date will be announced at the MWC exhibition, which will take place at the end of January 2017. The official announcement should confirm the rumors, that is, the global release of the S8 and S8 Edge should take place in the second quarter of 2017.

This means that in Asian markets such as South Korea and China, smartphones will appear in early April, while in Europe and the United States this will happen in the middle of the month.

Samsung has always been known for its consistency in its annual launch cycles. These events are tracked in previous models. The S6 Edge was the first smartphone to be released in March 2015, followed by the Galaxy S7 Edge in March of the following year (2016). If you're interested in the S8 Active, you'll have to wait a little longer, around the end of July 2017, as it will launch later.

When will we be able to see the Samsung Galaxy S8 in Russia?

Samsung Galaxy S8 will appear in Russia at the end of April 2017

We can assume that the Galaxy S8 2017 will have better specs than the S6 and S7 Edge, as the device boasts 4K, high security, and fast speeds.

Follow our new publications to stay updated on prices and the exact release date of the S8 Edge.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 was released relatively long ago by industry standards - March 29, 2017. But thanks to the power reserve provided by the manufacturer, the smartphone remains relevant to this day. The model differs from its predecessors in its larger screen, as well as the absence of a “home” button. It has been replaced by a tactile element - it is located under the glass. A similar technology was used on the iPhone 7. Reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S8 are positive, users liked it.

The design of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is somewhat different from its analogues. The first thing you should pay attention to is that the Samsung inscription above the screen is missing. The company's engineers simply could not find a place for it. At the same time, the shape of the smartphone is unique; in terms of design, there are no analogues on the market today. What sets the phone owner apart from other smartphone users.

The flagship itself is made of glass and metal. You should be careful when using it. The device is not only slippery, but also instantly covered with fingerprints. It is worth using napkins more often - this will keep your smartphone looking attractive throughout the day. Glass completely covers the front and back sides of the case. The frame is made of metal.

The model is presented in several colors simultaneously:

  • ⦁ golden;
    ⦁ blue;
    ⦁ gray;
    ⦁ black

The speakers on the back side disappeared. The case itself is assembled as reliably as possible. But there is a small gap between the glass of the front panel and the metal frame. The nail doesn't fit there. But dust will easily get in. This is especially unpleasant if the phone is black. Contamination will immediately become visible against a dark background.

There is a fingerprint sensor on the back cover - right next to the lens. Moreover, the latter is now made flush with the plane of the body. There is a heart rate monitor, as well as an oxygen saturation analyzer in the user’s body.

The smartphone is a good solution for those involved in sports. It is possible to keep a training diary and automatically record your body indicators. A stylish and expensive case will set the S8 owner apart from other smartphone users.

Design and ergonomics

The curve of the Samsung Galaxy S8 case strongly resembles the geometry of the Note 7. But at the same time, the model in question is small and lies comfortably in the hand. The Samsung Galaxy S8 easily holds up when compared to its closest competitor, the iPhone 8, in terms of characteristics and appearance. The dimensions of the model are relatively small:

  • length – 148.9 mm;
  • width – 68.1 mm;
  • thickness – 8 mm.

Moreover, the weight is only 152 g. The model will look great both in a strong man’s palm and in thin women’s fingers. The device is universal. The geometry of the case and the location of the home button make it comfortable for everyone, regardless of the length of the fingers and the width of the palm. The S8 doesn't feel big. The main reason for this is that it is a little elongated compared to its counterparts with the same screen diagonal.

Thanks to good balancing, it is convenient to work with the phone; despite the sloping body, it does not slip out. On the left side there is a “swing” that allows you to easily adjust the volume. There is also a special key for launching the Bixby assistant. It doesn't work in our country. But you can find a special application on Google Play that allows you to easily reassign a button to another action.

Display

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the first thing that attracts attention. Moreover, developers and marketers together even came up with a special name for it - Infinity Display. The display occupies 97% of the front area of the body and has a QHD+ resolution (2,960 × 1,440 pixels). The installed screen is of very high quality, there are no dots.

SuperAmoled matrices were used during assembly. This is the latest generation, improved in comparison with those used in the Note 7 model. The automatic brightness control algorithm has undergone significant changes, depending on external lighting conditions. Experts have improved a mode called AlwaysOn Display. Buttons located on the screen are hidden when applications are running. The display diagonal is exactly 5.8 inches.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 model began to use technologies that were previously used only in the development of televisions. In addition, the phone itself constantly analyzes the image present on the screen. There is not only a light quantity indicator, but also an RGB color analyzer. It independently, without user intervention, adjusts screen tones in accordance with external conditions.

Serious advantages over competitors include the use of Mobile HDR Premium technology. It was developed literally in 2017 specifically for devices that support 4K resolution. According to experts, the screen in the Galaxy S8 is the most technologically advanced in the world. Its main differences:

  • automatic brightness adjustment sets 1000 candelas at maximum illumination - you can easily read even small text under sunlight;
  • DCI-P3 Color is used - also used in TVs with 4K resolution;
  • there are simultaneously 2 sensors that analyze the amount of light - on both front panels;
  • night mode eliminates the presence of blue color in the light spectrum - this allows you to avoid excessive stimulation of the psyche;
  • A separate circuit is built in to work with Always On technology, which can significantly save battery power.

Equipment

The delivery package contains a standard list of items:

  1. the smartphone itself;
  2. a device for connecting to a 220 V electrical network to recharge the battery;
  3. paperclip – allows you to remove the tray to place a SIM card in it;
  4. headset type AKG – wired type;
  5. special adapter – for connecting additional equipment – OTG;
  6. instructions.

The OTG cable deserves special attention. With its help, you can connect various external devices to your smartphone. Including all kinds of storage media. These are USB flash drives, as well as other equipment. The AKG headset allows you to listen to music. It cannot boast of an impressive sound. But for watching movies, videos from the Internet are perfect. The device is delivered in a cardboard box.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy S8

Even a year after its release, the device remains relevant. This may be due to the characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy S8:

  • CPU – Exynos 8895, 8 cores, 2.3 GHz each;
  • built-in video accelerator – Mali-G71 MP20;
  • volume of RAM (random access memory) – 4 GB;
  • ROM volume (read-only memory) – 64 GB (several GB are deducted for installing the operating system).

It must be remembered that the model is produced for different markets with different technical characteristics. For example, the Chinese version is equipped with not 4, but 6 GB of RAM. In the USA, the exclusive Samsung Galaxy S8 is sold on the Snapdragon 835 processor. This is why some devices show higher results in various synthetic tests.

Performance

Various software tests don't always show how fast the Samsung Galaxy S8 is. But it is worth noting that there is no gap at all between clicking on the application icon and launching it. Even in comparison with the S7 and Note 7, which have never had any complaints in terms of speed, the S8 is a serious winner.

Separately, it is worth highlighting the changes in terms of memory. The improvement is already visible in the transition from UFS 2.0 to UFS 2.1. This allows you to significantly reduce the time required to boot your smartphone. In addition, switching time between different applications is reduced to a minimum. It was the S8 that became the first device from Samsung equipped with UFS 2.1 memory.

There are still rumors among users of alternative devices about the slowness of Samsung smartphones. But such stereotypes are usually a consequence of installing a huge amount of third-party software on the device. The Samsung Galaxy S8 review will give you an idea of the actual performance of the device.

Cameras

Using the device to take pictures and record videos is appropriate - the Samsung Galaxy S8's camera is worthy of all praise. The front resolution is as much as 8 megapixels, while it is fast. The maximum open aperture is f/1.7. Due to this, pictures can be taken bright and sharp even with a significant lack of light. There are many built-in effects.

It seems to many that the main camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels has remained the same. DualPixel technology is used. As with earlier models, Sony is the supplier. Separately, we need to dwell on the increased system performance. Photos of Samsung Galaxy S8 are more saturated. The camera model has its own memory.

Due to this, the speed of work increases by an order of magnitude. There is also a comfort mode called Burst Mode. Thanks to it, you can take several dozen pictures in a row. The high performance of the system allows the camera to focus faster and handle complex scenes better. This is especially noticeable in comparison with the Galaxy S7.

Photo

A special feature of the Samsung Galaxy S8 photography is the ability to form a panorama with an impressive 50.6 megapixels. Which makes the quality of the pictures simply fantastic.

A high-power LED flash will highlight shadows and also make the subject more detailed in the shadows.

Video

Shooting video on the Samsung Galaxy S8 is as good as shooting photos. It is possible to shoot video up to Ultra HD resolution. Recording is carried out at a speed of 60 frames per second. There is electronic image stabilization. But only in Full HD mode. In night mode, the video will also delight the smartphone user. Dynamic range, vibrant colors and good range resolution at high ISO make shooting easy and fun.

Front-camera

The characteristics of the front camera in comparison with the external one cannot be called outstanding. But it offers a completely acceptable result. Perfect for filming yourself while traveling.

Care must be taken when working in areas with insufficient lighting. It all depends on the amount of light and other factors.

Sound and music playback quality

The sound of the Samsung Galaxy S8 deserves special attention. Since Samsung uses a completely new development in its smartphone. It constantly analyzes the actions performed by the user. For example, if the owner of a smartphone is talking on Skype, the volume in the headphones is automatically increased. All frequencies and extraneous noises that can interfere with communication are also cut off.

In addition, the smartphone constantly evaluates the sound level around the device itself. Automatic adjustment to the situation is carried out. Moreover, the sound processor does not carry out all these actions; only the amplifier is used to solve the assigned tasks.

Another “trick” of the model is the automatic recognition of repeating sounds. For example, if headphones constantly rub against clothing or skin, then the device tries to remove such noise from the music while listening to it. The sound quality depends on the headphones used, as well as the sound profiles that are used in a particular case.

Samsung designed and assembled the included headset to the specifications of the S8. All the delights of musical compositions are perfectly revealed thanks to the Cirrus Logic SC43130 DSP. The main feature of the module is its versatility; it fits well with most headphones - without any exceptions.

Communication capabilities

Like its competitors, the Samsung Galaxy S8 supports USB Type C version 3.0. This is the first smartphone of its year to feature the latest generation Bluetooth communication protocol – 5.0. There is also aptX, as well as other built-in audio codecs for audio playback. There is an LTE module; the frequencies used will depend on the specific operator, as well as the country in which the device is used. Moreover, in an LTE network, the device shows the maximum possible data download speed.

In a network in Moscow with the cellular operator MTS, the download speed reached 430 Mbit/s. Moreover, the theoretical limit of this indicator is only 450 Mbit/s. There is dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11. There are simply no major improvements from Samsung in this direction.

operating system

At the time of release of the device, the latest operating system was installed on it – Android 7.0. The proprietary Experiense 8.1 shell is installed on top. It functions quite quickly and features proprietary animation. In some ways it is similar to similar effects in Windows.

The GPU processes all actions in the operating system as quickly as possible, without delays, lags, or artifacts on the screen.

Autonomy

The standard Samsung Galaxy S8 battery has a capacity of 3,500 mAh. Charging can be done in two ways:

  • via a standard USB Type C connector;
  • using a wireless charger.

Moreover, in the second case, recharging is carried out automatically - you just need to place the device on a special wireless station. Separately, several energy saving profiles should be noted. They became more aggressive. This allows you to save battery and extend the operating time of the device. For example, video playback time is 18-19 hours with maximum brightness.

Pros and cons of a smartphone

Samsung Galaxy S8 has its pros and cons. The main advantages include:

  1. elongated display - this makes it convenient to use;
  2. high-quality parts, bright screen;
  3. high-quality cameras, the ability to shoot video in Ultra HD resolution;
  4. comfortable interface and performance;
  5. notification indicator, protection from dust and moisture;
  6. external speaker volume.

There are also obvious disadvantages. The Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone is discussed in detail in the review; the main disadvantages include:

  1. the case is easily soiled - fingerprints always remain;
  2. the rear glass is highly scratch-prone;
  3. if you use your smartphone for games, the edge of the USB connector constantly rubs your finger;
  4. fragile design requires the use of a cover;
  5. lack of a convenient way to quickly unlock the device.

In general, all the disadvantages are easily offset by a large number of advantages. The device copes well with all the functions assigned to it.

Comparison with competitors

The main competitor in this price category for the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the iPhone 8. Comparison of the device according to the main parameters:

  • The S8's display is 5.8 inches versus 4.7 on the iPhone 8. The advantages of Samsung's product lie not only in size, but in more advanced technology and resolution;
  • In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 835 processor is one step lower than the A11 Bionic. Apple's developments in this industry are products of a completely different category (this is easily confirmed by the Geekbench test);
  • The cameras of these devices produce almost identical results. Apple's product has some advantage in brighter light;
  • A wireless charging station comes standard with Samsung products. For an Apple product, you will need to purchase it separately;
  • In terms of offline mode, both devices will not let their users down. Samsung Galaxy S8 lasts 1 hour longer in active talk mode.

Overall, both devices will be an excellent solution. But it is worth remembering that there are differences in performance and functionality. It is important to take into account the fundamental differences between operating systems.

Final review

Despite the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S8 model was released a relatively long time ago (more than 1 year ago), it is still in high demand in stores. The reason for this is good performance, high-quality images and long battery life. It is worth remembering that using this device without a case risks scratching the rear glass. There are other operating nuances.

Samsung Galaxy S8 shows good performance regardless of the installed processor. The quality of communication is at the highest level. The ability to work with Wi-Fi in two bands simultaneously deserves special attention. Another advantage is that the cost of the model decreased significantly within a year after its release.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were introduced in March 2016. The smartphones have received good reviews for their cute designs, powerful specs, and excellent cameras.

However, there are no perfect smartphones. There are always comments about new smartphones, and manufacturers are trying to fix them in the next generation.

The number of rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S8 is increasing. Today we can imagine what the next flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S8 will look like.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge: release date

If Samsung sticks to its previous releases, we will see the new Galaxy S8 before the start of MWC 2017. The event will take place from February 27 to March 2, 2017. This means that the potential release date for the Galaxy S8 is February 26th.

Today, there are rumors that the release of the smartphone may be postponed in order to restore consumer confidence after problems with the Galaxy Note 7. However, many sources claim that the Galaxy S8 will be presented on February 26th.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge: two phones?

One of the latest rumors suggests that instead of two models - one with a flat screen and the other with a curved one - Samsung will release only one version of the smartphone. Also, Phone Arena published information only about the smartphone model with a dual curved display, without hints at a flat version.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge: design

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge received minor design changes compared to the previous generation. We hope the Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with a more updated design.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones come with a regular USB port, but we expect the next generation of smartphones to come with USB Type-C.

Audio improvements are also expected. LG and HTC have made big strides in this area with their latest smartphones, and it would make sense for Samsung to pay attention to this.

We'll be happy with the Galaxy S8's slimmer design, as well as the combination of metal and glass instead of the usual metal body.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge: display

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge come with 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch displays, respectively, and Quad HD resolution.

The resolution may be increased as virtual reality becomes more popular. Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is one of the few smartphones that has a 4K resolution display.

Given Samsung's focus on the VR market, it would make sense to release a high-resolution flagship smartphone that supports Gear VR.

Chinese sources suggest that the Galaxy S8 will have a 5.5-inch 4K AMOLED with a pixel density of 806ppi.

Another source claims that the Galaxy S8 will have a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 4096x2160 pixels. Slightly larger than the screen size of the Galaxy S7, while the pixel density is as much as 891ppi.

We can only hope that with the increase in screen resolution of the Samsung Galaxy S8, battery life will not suffer.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge: cameras

The current flagships Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge come with a 12-megapixel main camera, f/1.7 aperture, 1.44 micron pixel size. The front camera has a 5-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture.

These are significant upgrades over the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, and we're looking forward to further improvements for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge.

Rumor has it that Samsung is working on a new 1/2.3-inch sensor that will be paired with an f/1.4 aperture. Thanks to this, smartphones will take better photos in low light conditions than current flagships.

Another report suggests that the Galaxy S8 will come with a dual rear camera setup with different sensors - one 12-megapixel and the other 13-megapixel. Similar technology is used on the LG G5, Huawei P9 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus. The same source claims that the front camera will be 8 megapixels.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge: Hardware

Each new flagship comes with new hardware. There is no doubt that the Galaxy S8 will have a faster and more powerful processor.

According to one of the leaks, we can expect a 3.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 830 processor supported by 6 GB of RAM, while Phone Arena talks about two different processors: Exynos 8895 and Snapdragon 830, as well as 6 GB and 8 GB of RAM.

Most likely, Samsung will retain support for microSD memory cards, while the internal memory will be 64 GB and 128 GB. It is worth recalling that smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and higher are capable of combining internal memory with SD card memory.

Battery capacity is expected to increase. But even if the Galaxy S8's battery doesn't get bigger, we'd like to see software improvements. Rumors claim that the Galaxy S8 will have a 4200 mAh battery, as well as a fingerprint scanner, a retina scanner and a built-in mini projector.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge: Software

We expect to see some improvements to the TouchWiz user interface for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge smartphones.

We're glad that the Korean manufacturer uses a relatively clean user interface. HTC has released a new flagship with an updated Sense interface that works very well. We will be glad if the next flagships from Samsung take an example from their colleague.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge: summing up

What will the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge be like? At the moment it is unknown exactly. We'll know for sure in a couple of months. We're expecting a more powerful processor, more RAM, and possibly a larger battery.

We've been keeping up with the latest news surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge. We'll try to keep you updated on the latest leaks and rumors.
