A program for displaying fps in games. How to check your FPS (view FPS) in games What program shows fps in games

Hi all. today I will talk about a program that can easily increase FPS in any game, even on a weak computer! More precisely, there will be 2 programs - for Nvidia and AMD/ATI video cards. The programs allow you to perform deep settings on the video card driver and disable everything that can affect the increase in FPS in games. Download the archive using the download button. Inside the archive there will be 2 folders for Nvidia and AMD/ATI video cards. Depending on what video card you have installed, unzip the desired folder and run or install the program you need. If you don’t know what video card you have, you can download the program and find out through it. I will show you everything in more detail in my video about increasing FPS.

Setting up the program for NVIDIA video cards

After unzipping the program, run the file "nvidiaInspector.exe". I recommend running the program as an administrator. Next, find the Driver Version line and click on the icon at the end of the line.

The NVIDIA Profile Inspector application will launch. In it you can select settings for all games or only those with low FPS. In the application we are most interested in a few lines:

  • Antialiasing - Transparency Supersamling. Set the value to AA_MODE_REPLAY_MODE_ALL
  • Texture filtering - LOD Bias (DX). We set any value +, the more + the worse the textures in the game will be but there will be more FPS.
  • Texture filtering - LOD Bias (OGL).We set any value +, the more + the worse the textures in the game will be but there will be more FPS.

Now look what the game will look like:

Thanks to this manipulation, you can increase the FPS in the game by 5 times! For more information about these settings, see my video:

Increasing FPS for AMD\ATI video cards

After unzipping the program, run the file “attsetup.exe”, install the program, do not touch any checkboxes. After installation, launch the program. I would like to write right away that the program is old and does not work on Windows 10; it works fine on older Windows. Next you do this:

  • We are looking for the Direct3D button --> Settings --> Additional.
  • We see the line of LOD textures and move the slider to the right, for example to a value of 7.0 (the most blurry mode) and press the apply button.

We get almost the same as described above, FPS increases by 5-7 times, but the textures become blurry. This is such an easy increase in FPS even on old hardware!

For owners of a powerful hardware, you can also improve FPS by overclocking your video card, I showed this in this video:

You have now maximized FPS in games on your PC!

Good day.

I assume that every gaming fan (at least with at least a little experience) knows what FPS (frames per second) is. At least those who have encountered slowdowns in games know for sure!

In this article I want to consider the most popular questions regarding this indicator (how to find it out, how to increase FPS, what it should be, what it depends on, etc.). So…

How to find out your FPS in a game

The easiest and fastest way to find out what FPS you have is to install a special program called FRAPS. If you often play computer games, it will help you out quite often.

In short, this is one of the best programs for recording video from games (everything that happens on your screen is recorded). Moreover, the developers have created a special codec that almost does not load your processor with video compression, so that when recording video from a game, the computer does not slow down! Including, FRAPS shows the number of FPS in the game.

There is one drawback to this codec - the videos are quite large and subsequently need to be edited and converted in some editor. The program works in popular versions of Windows: XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10. I recommend you check it out.

After installing and launching FRAPS, open the “FPS” section in the program and set the hotkey ( in my screenshot below it’s the F11 button ).

When the utility is running and the button is set, you can start the game. In the game in the upper corner (sometimes right, sometimes left, depending on the settings) you will see yellow numbers - this is the number of FPS ( if you don’t see it, press the hotkey that we set in the previous step).

In the upper right (left) corner the amount of FPS in the game is displayed in yellow numbers. In this game the FPS is 41.

What should it be FPS to play comfortably (without lags and brakes)

There are so many people, so many opinions :)

In general, the higher the number of FPS, the better. But if the difference between 10 FPS and 60 FPS will be noticed even by a person far from computer games, then not every experienced gamer will understand the difference between 60 FPS and between 120 FPS! I’ll try to answer such a controversial question, since I see it myself...

1. Type of game

The game itself makes a very big difference in the required number of FPS. For example, if this is some kind of strategy where there are no quick and sudden changes in the landscape (for example, turn-based strategies), then you can play quite comfortably at 30 FPS (or even less). Another thing is some kind of fast shooting game, where your results directly depend on your reaction. In such a game, the number of frames less than 60 can mean your defeat (you simply will not have time to react to the movements of other players).

The type of game also brings a certain note: if you play online, then the number of FPS (as a rule) should be higher than in a single player game on a PC.

2. Monitor

If you have a regular LCD monitor (and most of them are 60 Hz), then you won’t notice the difference between 60 and 100 Hz. Another thing is if you participate in some online games and have a monitor with a frequency of 120 Hz - then it makes sense to increase the FPS to at least 120 (or a little higher). True, those who play games professionally know better than me what kind of monitor is needed :).

In general, for most game lovers, 60 FPS will be comfortable - and if your PC can handle this amount, then there is no point in squeezing more out of it...

How to increase FPS in game

Quite a difficult question. The fact is that a low number of FPS is usually associated with weak hardware, and increasing FPS by a significant amount with weak hardware is almost impossible. But, still, something is possible, the recipe is below...

1. Cleaning Windows from “garbage”

Speed up and clean Windows (best utilities):

2. Video card acceleration

This is a pretty effective method. The fact is that the driver for the video card usually has optimal settings that provide an average picture quality. But, if you set special settings that slightly reduce the quality (often not noticeable to the eye), then the number of FPS increases (has nothing to do with overclocking)!

Hi all! Today I decided in this article to tell you about a program that displays fps in any game.

There are many different programs on the Internet, but I won’t list them all and will only talk about MSI Afterburner. This program allows you to not only display fps in games. but also overclock the video card, but today we will not talk about overclocking.

Where can I download MSI Afterburner?

Download this program from the official website

Please note that the installation file, as usual, is located in the archive, but this installation file will be in a folder with the digital name 4.5.0 (as of May 29, 2018, the program version may change over time) and it needs to be extracted from the archive, for example, as I did at work table, because if you do not extract the folder, the installer may not start.

Installation

Now install the program, everything is as usual, BUT in this section

All checkboxes must be checked " MSI Afterburner" and to " Riva Tuner"Without the additional Riva Tuner program, fps will not be displayed in the game and additional windows and functions for adjusting FPS will not appear in the MSI Afterburner program. This is a mandatory point, by the way, I almost didn’t find anything on the Internet about the mandatory installation of Riva Tuner for fps in games.

After the installation of "MSI Afterburner" is completed, a new installer window appears

Now the Riva Tuner installer has appeared, initially I thought that this was a repeated command from the MSI Afterburner installer and ignored the installation and because of this, additional functions for adjusting FPS were not displayed for me, in general, click ok and install Riva Tuner.

Settings

Launch MSI Afterburner and go to settings

Go to the window " Monitoring»

Here in the list, select the desired option to display in the game, for example, the temperature of the GPU (video card), select this item and check the box at the bottom. Show in OED»

In the same way, you can select, for example, “ CPU temperature" and others, most importantly, when selecting a parameter, do not forget to check the box " Show in OED» press ok.

Enabling FPS Settings

The FPS setting is called " Frame frequency", initially there is no check mark next to it and therefore it needs to be checked

so that the option “ Show in OED«.

Now in games you should have a picture like this

In the upper left corner information about FPS and other parameters is displayed. Specifically, I set the temperature and load of the GPU video card, the temperature and load of the CPU processor and, accordingly, FPS, it is the lowest.

To change the size of the icons you need to go to the Riva Tuner program

in setup On-Screen Display zoom adjust icon size

Important!

The MSI Afterburner program must always be running in order for the FPS to be displayed in the game.

I hope I answered your question about how to display FPS in games now. If something is unclear, ask questions in the comments.

There are several ways to enable FTP display in games:
  1. Installing the free MSI Afterburner program. The most universal method that works in all games and with any type of video card.
  2. Enabling FPS display in driver settings. It only works with nvidia video cards and not all of them.
  3. Enabling FPS directly in game settings. Available in all games from Steam and Blizzard.
Let's take a closer look at each of the methods.

Method 1: MSI Afterburner

Afterburner is the only free program for displaying FPS at the moment. Many people recommend Fraps, which is a little simpler, but it is not entirely free and contains a lot of advertising.

If desired, in the RivaTuner settings you can change the position, size and color of statistics. And in the Afterburner settings, in addition to FPS, you can enable display of the temperature of the processor, video card and much more.

If you need statistics constantly, it is better to enable the “Run with Windows” option in Afterburner. The program hangs in the tray and does not interfere at all.

Method 2. GeForce Experiens

If you have an NVIDIA video card, then you can use the NVIDIA GeForce Experiens utility to view FPS. Most likely you already have it, as it was installed along with the drivers. If not, then download it.

Let's launch. Go to the menu Perferences => Shadow Play. Select the FPS Counter item and check the “Allow Desktop capture” box.

Method 3: Enable built-in game settings

In popular cs go, dota 2, and other games from Steam, you can watch FPS without third-party programs. To do this, in the settings Steam, in the “IN GAME” tab, enable the “Steam Overlay in Game” option and select where to display the frame counter.

In Overwatch, WOW, Starcraft, Diablo and other games from Blizzard, FPS display is enabled by the combination CTRL+SHIFT+R or the “turn on performance data” option.

What affects FPS?

FPS primarily depends on the capabilities of the video card and to a lesser extent on the processor and RAM. Also, FPS is limited by the monitor frequency, so on most laptops it is impossible to see more than 60 FPS.

FPS is also affected by monitor resolution and picture detail settings in the game. The higher the image quality, the lower the smoothness and speed of the game.

The number of frames per second displays the number of frames displayed on the computer monitor at that very second. The greater the number of frames, the smoother the picture the user sees in games. For a comfortable game you need a minimum of about 60 frames per second. On gaming computers, FPS can exceed 100 frames per second, making the game truly comfortable. Therefore, users often wonder how to enable the display of frames per second on their computer in any game.

This article will tell you how to view FPS in games on Windows 10 in different ways. Today there are indeed a lot of programs showing FPS in games. But in most cases, users can easily do without third-party programs using only utilities from the manufacturer of their video card or, for example, Steam.

AMD Radeon Settings

Recently, users with video cards from the Red side have noticed a global update to the accompanying driver utility. Instead of AMD Catalyst, users received updated AMD Radeon Settings, which have modern interface and extensive capabilities.

Now AMD Radeon Settings are capable of displaying the number of frames per second, video card usage, processor usage, and others. All parameters can be configured directly in the game using hotkeys: Alt+R allows you to configure performance indicators, Ctrl+Shift+O Toggles performance overlays.

GeForce Experience

NVidia has released the GeForce Experience companion program for its video cards, which expands the capabilities of the drivers. The GeForce Experience program allows you not only to show FPS in games, but also to share your videos, screenshots and live broadcasts of gameplay with friends.

Steam

Steam is today's best digital distribution service for computer games and programs, developed by Valve. Steam is what most users use to download many games.

The Steam program allows you to enable a convenient FPS counter in all games. Regardless of whether you added the game to your library from the store or from a local drive, you just need to enable the frames per second counter in the settings.

It is possible to set the frames per second counter in any corner, and here you can also turn on the high contrast of the frame counter.

Fraps

A small utility that allows you to quickly and conveniently show FPS in games. Users just need to download two megabytes and install the utility on their computer. You can download the free version on the official website of the program.

To enable the FPS counter in games, you need to open the Fraps program and go to the tab 99 FPS. Further at point Overlay Hotkey indicate the hotkey to turn on the counter in the game and below select the position of the counter.

Conclusion

The number of frames per second is an important parameter by which you can determine the level of performance of the computer as a whole. Many users compare the performance of video cards from different manufacturers. For a comfortable game, the user needs at least 60 frames per second.

Many programs installed on your computer can display a counter for the number of frames in games. Not many users know how to enable FPS display in GeForce Experience, AMD Radeon Settings or Steam. Users generally have no idea that they are able to replace third-party programs that show FPS in games.

Therefore, first of all, see if there is one of these programs on your computer, and only then should you pay attention to programs from other manufacturers. And then just wait until Microsoft adds the ability to display the number of frames in .
