I didn’t update, I installed it purely, it installed like any other Windows in time, about half an hour. I didn't like the system. Win 7 turned out to be better!

Answer from Sergei Soldiers[guru]
If you need trouble-free 10, then it is better to switch to it by installing 10 update without saving (when updating, select the option: do not save anything) using an installation disk or flash drive. There is a special program from Microsoft MediaCreationTool with its help you can download program 10 and it will also make an installation disk or flash drive. You just need to follow the instructions of this program. Read the recommendations from Microsoft and download the program. Button: Download tool now
link
When updating without saving, the old 7 or 8 will go to the Windows.old folder. It will not work. If you don't need anything there, you can delete it. You need to make the transition from activated 7 or 8 if you have Internet access. Upon transition, automatic authorization will be performed. That is, you will receive a license key from 10 plus you will still have a key from your license 7 or 8. In this case, you need to comply with the versions. For example, if home is 7, then home is 10.
Regarding the drivers. As an option. There is a free driver installation program called snappy driver installer. It will determine what you need. Give it a try. Download website: sdi-tool.org It is available in two versions: SDI Full or SDI Lite. It’s better to download SDI Full There are all the drivers and there is no need to depend on the Internet. When you enter the program, the program itself will analyze the missing ones, and if anything is missing, it will offer to install specific drivers for this computer.

Below are frequently asked questions about the update. Click the link to see the answer.

  • When will new Windows 10 devices hit stores?

New computers running Windows 10 will begin to appear after July 29, the Windows 10 release date.

  • Will my files and data be in the cloud?

By default, all files are saved to your device's hard drive. Windows 10 includes OneDrive, which provides free cloud storage; It is completely optional to save your data in it, but it allows you to access your personal files from anywhere.

Testing the new Windows 10 operating system is even easier than purchasing licensed Windows 8.1. No steps are required to complete the purchase. Anyone can get acquainted with the new system for free. All you need to do to get a disk image with the Windows 10 distribution is to select the desired language, bit depth on the Microsoft website and download the file itself ".iso".

You can test Windows 10 not only by installing the system from scratch. Microsoft has provided a process for updating existing versions of Windows 7 and 8.1 while maintaining settings and installed desktop programs. You can also upgrade to Windows 10 for free. But Microsoft does not recommend its users to do this on their main computer. Windows 10 is currently undergoing testing, the system is unstable, during its operation certain problems arise every now and then, which the software giant is still working on eliminating.

Is it worth upgrading to Windows 10? Below we will look at the process itself, how the system is updated, and also talk about the difficulties that you may have to face during the update process and after it.

  1. Upgrading the current system version to Windows 10

How does the process of upgrading the current version of Windows to version 10 work? Let's look at the example of Windows 8.1.

The update is carried out using a special update installer - a small utility that can be downloaded for free on the Microsoft website.

After pressing the button "Start update" The update installer will download. This is a executable format file « .exe» .

The computer reboots after preparing for the update.

After the reboot, an open system update center window will appear. This is where the update process to Windows 10 begins. If all required updates are not installed on the system, they must be installed in order to be able to update to Windows 10. The start of the update process is activated by the button "Beginning of work".

At this stage of preparation, the files for the update will be downloaded from the Microsoft website.

The computer will be checked to ensure it meets Windows 10 system requirements.

Updates will be applied in system preboot mode; for this, the computer must be restarted.

Microsoft provides the ability to schedule the upgrade process to Windows 10 at a time convenient for the user.

To take advantage of this opportunity, you need to set a convenient date and time.

After setting the date and time, you need to click the button to start the update at the scheduled time.

You can begin the update process without delay.

In preload mode, the update process will first take place against the backdrop of Windows 8.1 colors.

Then the system will go into the new design of the pre-boot mode, where the update to Windows 10 will mostly take place. In this mode, we will be able to observe the progress of the process as a percentage.

If the update is completed successfully, you can begin to familiarize yourself with the new system.

  1. Disadvantages of the Windows 10 Upgrade Process

An exemplary case of upgrading to Windows 10 was discussed above. And, as we can see, ideally this process is quite simple. But is everything really so rosy?

2.1 Duration of the update process

Upgrading the current version of the system to Windows 10 – painfully long process, which lasts several hours. That is why Microsoft has provided the ability to schedule the start of the update at a time convenient for the user. While a clean installation from scratch will take no more than an hour, or even no more than half an hour if using a bootable USB 3.0 flash drive. Thus, the system update process, unlike a clean installation, involves saving user data. This takes up most of the time of the update process to Windows 10. It is better to plan the system update in advance and start the process, for example, before going to bed or when you have something to do at the same time.

2.2. The update process is stuck

Not every Windows 10 upgrade process that you start will be completed successfully. The computer may freeze for a long time, and returning to a fully functioning current version of the system after a reboot is the best case scenario.

2.3 Update not for every build of Windows

The update process to version ten, as mentioned, is only for Windows 7 and 8.1 systems. For users of Windows XP, Vista, version 7 without Service Pack 1, Windows RT and 8 installed, the update process is not available. In some cases, it will not be possible to update to Windows 10 pirated modified builds of Windows 7 and 8.1, during the creation of which the assemblers experimented with system functionality.

2.4 Drivers' meeting

After the update, the new Windows 10 may end up without a video, audio driver, or drivers for other computer components.

Before starting the update process, you need to make sure that you have driver installers or a manager program to install them. Windows 10 is so unpredictable that it may even surprise you with the lack of a driver for the network card. If the network is the only way to connect to the Internet, you will have to look for a driver for the network card from other computer devices.

  1. To summarize...

The process of upgrading the current version of the system to Windows 10 benefits from installing it from scratch except by preserving the installed desktop programs and their settings. However, in addition we can get a lot of other problems. Therefore, before starting the system update process, it would be a good idea to transfer important files from the system drive to a non-system drive or to cloud services. And, of course, it is advisable to take care of a backup copy of the current version of the system using special programs AOMEI Backupper Standard, Acronis True Image, Paragon Backup & Recovery or their analogues.

Behind the visual appeal of Windows 10, its freeness and easy accessibility, there actually lies a flaw. At the moment, the tenth version is at its development stage, and Microsoft openly states this, not recommending using the new product as the main operating system. Windows 10 is still called Technical Preview– preliminary technical version. And its assemblies are intended for familiarization and testing.

Therefore, the process of updating to Windows 10 on a work computer is not the best way to test the new product from Microsoft. Getting acquainted with the tenth version may actually take place, but, alas, there is a high probability that this will happen to the detriment of the stability and performance provided by the current version of Windows 7 or 8.1.

At the moment, the best way to test Windows 10 is to install it on a virtual machine using hypervisor programs VMware Workstation or VirtualBox.

If the computer's power does not allow you to work with them, the new product can be installed as a second operating system on another partition of the computer's disk.

Today, the Windows 10 operating system will become available to millions of users around the world. “Ten” seems to be the most carefully thought-out version of Microsoft’s OS in recent years. There are many reasons in favor of the update: free, improved interface, Edge browser with support for advanced web technologies, universal applications. However, Windows 10, like any new product, has weaknesses. Vesti.Hi-tech found out what threatens a hasty update.

Non-disabled auto updates. In Windows 10, the company refused to release service packs and security patches that were released strictly on schedule. "Ten", unlike Windows 7 and Vista, will regularly check, download and install updates and drivers automatically. This change turned out to be one of the controversial ones - after all, many users want to have complete control over their system and everything that changes in it.

Firstly, the installation of Windows 10 updates will occur without the knowledge of users - the license agreement obliges them to do this. “The software periodically checks for system and application updates, downloads and installs them for you... By accepting this agreement, you agree to receive automatic updates without further notice,” the document says. After downloading and installing the update, Windows 10 users will be prompted to restart their computer (automatically or manually).

Secondly, it is no longer possible to refuse automatic downloading of updates or to select only some of them, as before. The new rules apply only to the “home” edition of operating systems (Windows 10 Home). Users of the business version of Windows 10 Pro (Windows 10 Pro), although with some restrictions, will still be able to defer downloading updates indefinitely.

You need to understand that updates are installed automatically to ensure that the user’s device is as protected as possible. The user can “roll back” only 1 release back, again, for security purposes. As for the transition from older versions of Windows, within a month after installing Windows 10, the user can return to the previous version of the OS that was originally installed on his device, provided that this OS is Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.

Limited free. Windows 10 is the first Microsoft operating system that will be available to users completely free of charge. True, provided that you are the owner of a device with a licensed copy of Windows 7 or 8.1. It is impossible to make a direct upgrade to “ten” from Vista, Windows XP or an older version of the OS. In addition, your PC must have the latest version of Windows it supports. This could be Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 8.1 Update.

According to the official Microsoft website, users who upgrade from Windows 7/8.1 will receive a similar “edition” of Windows 10. For example, on a PC with “seven” (for Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium) Windows 10 Home will be installed, for Professional or Ultimate - Windows 10 Pro. So, you will obviously have to pay extra to switch from Windows 7 “home” to the business version.

Lack of Windows Media Center media player(WMC). The WMC media player is missing from Windows 10. The application, which plays music, photos and streaming TV, was not included in the new OS "due to a decline in popularity," Microsoft explained. However, many users have long been accustomed to WMC, which debuted back in 2002 with the release of Windows XP.

The player was mainly used to play DVD movies and watch TV shows recorded from the TV in the living room on the computer. The company did not include an alternative to WMC in Windows 10 (to watch DVDs, you will have to install a third-party application), but promised to “provide another option for using this feature in the future.”

Windows 10 comes with a new app called Music and Video that's designed to play any kind of multimedia content. Music files in lossless compression formats (FLAC, etc.), as well as video in the .mkv container are supported.

From Windows 10 also such classic elements as desktop gadgets, Solitaire and Minesweeper games will disappear(new versions will take their place). Moreover, users will be forced to play solitaire with advertising displayed. You can get rid of it, as well as get bonus features, only for money ($1.49 per month/$9.99 per year). Microsoft followed the same strategy with Windows 8/8.1, but the game was not bundled with the operating system, but was available as an additional download.

Any operating system at the time of release may contain errors and vulnerabilities, which were not identified during the beta testing stage. For this reason, some cautious users will probably want to wait a month or two until Microsoft fixes the most obvious bugs. Yes, 5 million volunteers who tested the technical beta of the OS did everything to catch errors. But now Windows 10 will probably be installed by a much larger number of people, so it is likely that some shortcomings will emerge - after all, not a single software product is released without them, especially one as complex as the OS. However, it is better not to wait too long - from July 29, 2016, the transition to the “top ten” will become paid for all users.

A few days before the release of Windows 10, for example, it turned out that devices with the new "axis" work up to 10% less. True, the problem was identified in non-final builds of the OS; it is still premature to talk about the presence of the problem in the final version. Accelerated drainage has been detected on some PCs equipped with Intel chips. The company has already recognized the flaw and started working on optimizing the drivers. So if you want to install Ten on July 29, you should be prepared to install update packages on the same day.

When announcing Windows 10, Microsoft called the “smart” assistant Cortana one of the most important features of the “ten”. It allows you to control the system using voice commands (launch applications, play music, search for files, etc.), like Siri on i-devices. However, by the time Windows 10 is released, the secretary will only be available in a small number of countries, namely the US, UK, Canada, China, France, Italy, Germany and Spain. Unlike the same Siri, Cortana does not yet speak Russian, and it is unknown when she will learn it. The delay is due to the high degree of integration of the “assistant” into the operating system and Microsoft services.

Microsoft has strengthened the security of Windows 10 by providing support for biometric passwords. "Ten" can be configured so that login is performed only when scanning a fingerprint, eye shell or facial recognition. These features will, however, work if you have compatible hardware.. In order for Windows 10 to recognize the owner, it will need an infrared camera in a laptop or PC, and a corresponding sensor to scan a fingerprint.

No matter how aggressive the marketing campaign, Microsoft cannot convince all users to switch to Windows 10. Some are guided by the principle of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and are quite happy with older versions of the OS: they can return the classic Start menu by installing a third-party program (for example, Classic Shell), do not plan to use the Cortana assistant and do not play games (therefore, the presence of DirectX 12 in the “top ten” is not an argument for them).

Users of Windows 7, the most popular OS in the world, especially do not see the need to switch to “ten” right now. Despite the fact that the main support for the "seven" expired in January, it will continue to receive free security updates for another five years - until January 14, 2020. Along with fixing vulnerabilities, you can get other improvements by paying for extended support. As for Windows 8, Microsoft will support this version until 2023.

Social networks and blogs also cite the labor-intensive update process as arguments against switching to Windows 10, since it can take several hours to create backup copies of all files and configure the system, if installed on a computer with outdated hardware. Moreover, it is absolutely necessary to check applications for compatibility with the “ten”. Not all developers took part in the Microsoft beta testing program, therefore, after installing a new system, it may turn out that your favorite program is incompatible with it, and you won’t be able to “roll back” the update.

However, not everything is so bad.
For Windows 10

Today I will share my personal experience and talk about upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 10. I’ll express MY opinion about the new operating system from Microsoft - I’ll scold it a little and praise it.

I will touch on many issues - the performance of Windows 10 (including in games), the speed of its launch and operation, program compatibility, possible problems, driver adaptation, the advisability of switching to a new axis right now...

Background

I’ll say right away that I broke into Windows 10 bypassing version 8 (8.1) - I didn’t even see it (eight) and didn’t touch it with my hands. I kept waiting for it to be “finished” and made for people, to cure all “childhood diseases” and for users to start praising it - it didn’t wait.

After the official release of the dozen, after reading the first reviews on the Internet, I decided to hold off on switching to it. My youngest son Alexander ruined everything...

Baby son
came to my father
and the little one asked:
-Windows 10
Fine
or else
Badly?

That’s exactly how it happened - Sanya came to me with this question one evening, in early August, and I told him that I wanted to wait with the update, because this and that...

The son listened carefully, agreed with my opinion and went to his room. This morning I came home from work, and my son had already updated his Windows 7 to Windows 10...

The dialogue with him was short:

- Everything is fine, so far.

After which, shocked by how his son had suddenly matured, the father went to update his “seven”.

Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10

In my extremely optimized (long-suffering) “seven” everything is “unnecessary, harmful and superfluous” updates were disabled and therefore I did not receive any offers to upgrade to a new version of the operating system.

I didn’t want to enable all the updates, download them, and wait in line to download and install Windows 10 over Windows 7 from the manufacturers’ website. The only correct solution was to use a special official utility MediaCreationTool from Microsoft (there are two links at the bottom of the page - be sure to download the version of your exact bit size).

The update went smoothly, but took a very long time - more than three hours. During this process, you will be prompted to set the system to default settings - refuse and disable tracking elements. True, this can be done later, after the update, but it’s better right away.

Be sure to use a local account (you will be asked) and if you (like most users in the vast expanses of the former USSR) have correctly “purchased” Windows 7, there will be no problems. The activation key is recognized as legal.

If you get a different picture, don’t be upset, there is already the correct activator on the Internet (Re-Loader Activator 1.4 RC 3, but I don’t distribute it), look for it yourself.

Windows 10 startup speed

Startup speed The new system has changed noticeably - this process lasted up to 30-40 seconds (and in my seven it was 15-20 seconds, with all the necessary programs in startup). And this despite the fact that the top ten initially lacked Windows Media Center, and I also disabled everything unnecessary (many services, system services, News from Xbox, etc.).

It’s sad, of course, but I don’t see anything terrible or catastrophic in this, you can survive it.

But ten wakes up from a state of sleep or hibernation faster than all his relatives.

Windows 10 performance

I didn’t notice a wild increase in productivity in the new system, no matter how closely I looked. To be fair, I’ll say that in the seven I had all effects, shadows, sliding… turned off, and in the ten I turned on absolutely all of them.

Yes, Windows 10 seems airy and light, but this is only a feeling - tests on the Internet confirm my conclusion. My son didn’t notice any improvement in gaming either ( fps has remained virtually unchanged).

They say that laptops with 10 installed last longer on the battery - I haven’t checked, maybe.

The speed of the programs also remained the same. The new Microsoft Edge system browser is very fast, but just as poor and impractical as the old Internet Explorer.

I almost forgot - Windows 10 “eats” less RAM than Windows 7 and that’s a fact.

User tracking in Windows 10

A long-suffering, sensational and inflated topic to unimaginable proportions.

People, you are being “watched” by absolutely ALL browsers and ALL search engines on the Internet, and another half of computer programs!!! There is nothing wrong with this and this is done for your benefit!!!

Disable tracking in your browser (this can easily be done in your browser settings) and try searching for information on the Internet - I feel sorry for you. If you get tired of searching, the answers will be whatever you like, but not the ones you are looking for. And offers from online stores will come from wherever you want, but not from your city.

It’s exactly the same story with the top ten - there is tracking, but the manufacturers need it to adapt the system specifically for you, ungrateful ones.

In any case, all surveillance in Windows 10 can be easily disabled. There is a whole a bunch of special programs and utilities, which facilitate this process and eliminate the need for surgical intervention in the system registry.

By the way, be prepared for minor inconveniences, after disabling the keyboard spy - my hotkeys in the program stopped working to take screenshots and the PrtSc button on the laptop keyboard.

Programs and drivers in Windows 10

Drivers have been updated together with the system and no problems with my slightly upgraded Lenovo G-570 laptop (an ssd drive is installed, the sd-rom is thrown out and an hdd drive is shoved in its place, RAM now much faster and larger in size) did not happen.

Moreover, in the device manager I used to always have some kind of invincible yellow triangle with an exclamation mark - it packed up its things and went off to the land of problematic drivers.

I have this situation with drivers, but I don’t guarantee that everything will be as rosy for you, it probably won’t even be - get ready to look for them on the official websites of equipment manufacturers.

With computer programs in the new operating system, everything is almost fine - for me personally, everything works great (even the tricky free ones). Only the beloved Clover began to glitch (the author most likely abandoned it and is in no hurry to adapt it). I had to replace it with the latest version of QTTabBar for Windows 10.

Another window popped up immediately after starting the system. At the same time, everything worked wonderfully. Using the method of scientific analysis (with my meager knowledge of the English language), I managed to understand what they wanted from me - program for controlling a computer using a mouse StrokesPlus I stubbornly wanted to upgrade to the current (adapted to the modern system) version.

Convenience and interface in Windows 10

I really liked the almost non-existent frames on the explorer windows (finally). God, how much time I spent putting them on a diet in seven.

The half-hiding toolbar (ribbon) is terribly annoying. I will look for a way to get rid of it completely (there is none yet) - all its functions are in the window settings and I need them once during the entire life cycle of the shell (set it and forget it).

Copying files has become much more convenient and can be paused - there is almost no need for third party programs(only for beauty and music during the process).

The Start button menu did not impress me - I will also replace it with the classic one over time.

I haven’t yet assessed the other various new bells and whistles in the system (they exist, but somehow I didn’t notice them in two months), if anything happens, I’ll write in the comments or add to the article.

Personal conclusion about Windows 10

So, what can I tell you - my upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was successful, I don’t have any problems with it. But still, it feels like the system is crude. Maybe with the release of the first service pack this feeling will go away - I hope. At least that's what happened with Windows 7.

I didn’t have any childish delight, nor was I disappointed, but I’ll be honest - I expected more from the anniversary (and last) version of the most popular operating system.

I'll wait until the New Year (or before SP1 comes out), and then I'll decide. There is absolutely no desire to “jump” back, but trying version 8.1 has been greatly fueled.

I do not advise inexperienced users to update yet - they will have to get used to the new interface and problems with drivers are very possible. In addition, there is a chance of losing “free” immediately or over time (no one knows how it will continue and what the manufacturers have prepared for us in the near future).

To new useful and interesting computer programs.

And news from the computer world...

I'm just reviewing programs! Any complaints - to their manufacturers!
