Chief domain name registrar. How to register domains - tips and myths. Myth - to place a domain on hosting you need to confirm that you are the owner of the domain

RU-CENTER is one of the largest registrars on the Russian market since 2001. We provide services for registration, renewal and transfer of support for information about domain names in more than: national, international and thematic.

To do this, enter the query you are interested in in the search bar and click “Check”. In the list of results, free names in domain zones with a price for the first year will appear - all available, from the most to the most expensive. Our selection will allow you to check whether a specific domain is free if you enter it in its entirety in the search bar.

Select the appropriate option from the search results by category or across the entire list, place and pay for your order. These are valid for the first year of registration and may differ from the cost of the domain upon renewal.

After the money is received, the domain name is registered in the central database (Register) - the administrator indicates the individual or organization that has entered into an agreement with RU-CENTER.

After registration, management and all information about the domain become available in the “For Clients” section.

We've released a new book, Social Media Content Marketing: How to Get Inside Your Followers' Heads and Make Them Fall in Love with Your Brand.

A domain registrar is an organization that can register new domain names and extend the validity of existing ones.

A girl was born into the Korovin family. Her parents gave her the name Snezhanna. At the registry office the child was issued a birth certificate in the name of Korovina Snezhanna Erikovna. Unlike a domain name, there may be more than one girl in the world with that name (which is unlikely, but there is a chance). And if you register a domain, then its name will be in the singular. And you won’t come across any web resource with the same name.

Domain registrars and their role

If you register a domain, you rent a domain name. Usually for one year. At the end of the lease you need to renew. Otherwise, someone else will take the domain.

Registrar companies are responsible for monitoring the registration and renewal of domain names. Control over all registrars is carried out by the Coordination Centers of National Domains (for Russian domain zones RU and RF this is the CCTLD center).

There are also resellers. Sometimes they can sell the rights to a domain name cheaper. But read the reviews carefully before using their services. Such organizations may not always provide support.

How do domain registrar companies work?

  • Services are provided for a fee.
  • (the person or company in whose name the name is registered) undertakes not to violate the legislation of the Russian Federation and the rules for placing sites on the Internet.
  • Domains are registered to a real person or organization.
  • A login and password are provided for the domain management system.
  • Each name is registered for a specific period.
  • Any domain name can be put up for sale by the administrator.
  • The registrar ensures the legality of the name store and is the guarantor of the transaction.
  • 2 months before the end of the reservation, the registrar warns the administrator that the name needs to be renewed.
  • If the web name is not renewed by the specified deadline, then the administrator has another month to complete the renewal.
  • If after the end of the second period the administrator does not pay for the reservation, the domain can be registered by any other person.
  • Any unrenewed valuable domain name may be put up for auction by the registrar.
  • At any time, the administrator can change the registrar or give the domain under the management of another person (company).

Service delivery process

  • Registration is carried out automatically.
  • Checking the name for availability, suggesting alternative names and other zones before registration.
  • Receipt of payment from the future administrator.
  • Checking administrator documents in individual cases.
  • Name reservation.
  • Registration.
  • Notification to the administrator about the end of the booking period.

What are zones and levels

Each domain is registered in one of the domain zones. A domain zone is a collection of all domain names at the same level.

For example, site.ru - a web resource with the name “site” in the RU zone.
Site.org - the name of one web resource in the ORG zone, etc.

A domain registrar can only “book” for you accordingly. The first level is ORG, RU, etc.
He also reserves names in the zone.com.ua - this is the third level.

Let's look at a simple example...
Vrn.semantica..

Alternative zones are offered by the registrar company if the desired name in the selected zone is occupied.

How to choose a zone

First of all, focus on your web project. If it is aimed at a Russian audience, then it is more correct to work with the RU zone, Kazakhstan - KZ, etc. ORG and COM - suitable for commerce, INFO - for news and catalogues, etc. But do not forget that the Internet zone RU is familiar to Russians, and many of your clients will make the mistake of entering site.RU in the browser bar instead of site.ORG.

It’s worth mentioning separately about web projects in the geo-zone of the Russian Federation. This is the name of a web project in Cyrillic, which, on the one hand, is convenient and easy to remember. But on the other hand, you, as an administrator, will face constant difficulties. For example, you cannot register a mailbox with the name.РФ, or when working on promotion you will have to install links to a web resource through the punycode converter (for site.рф - this will be the code xn--80aswg.xn--p1ai).

How to choose the right domain name

  • The site name should be short and clear.
  • The domain should be easy to remember, its sound should be similar to its spelling.
  • The name should indicate the field of activity or contain the name of the company.
  • You can use a geographic location or region number (for example, orenburg or the number 56).
  • The presence of hyphens in the name is no more than one.
  • It is advisable not to use dubious transliteration in a web name, as well as replacing one Russian letter with two or three Latin ones. For example, voronej, voronezh, voroneg, etc.

Registrar companies in the Russian Federation

Below are the most famous Russian registrar companies:

  • Ru-Center (nic.ru);
  • Reg Ru (reg.ru);
  • Reggae (reggi.ru);
  • R01 (r01.ru);
  • Mastername (mastername.ru);
  • 2domains (2domains.ru), Reghouse (reghouse.ru) - resellers from Reg Ru and R01, and others.

How to choose a registrar company

You can also reserve a name from companies that offer hosting services. As a rule, they are resellers.

  • Price for booking and renewal.
  • The domain name must be registered to you, not the reseller.
  • Additional services: forwarding, DNS, hosting, CMS pre-installation, etc.
  • Convenient web name administration system.

If an administrator contains a web resource of dubious content, then he is interested in ensuring that no one can disable his domain. There is a certain concept of “abuse” - a demand from authorized bodies addressed to the registrar, according to which it is obliged to disable the specified domain.

What is a bulletproof recorder?

This is a company that keeps servers in countries that are not subject to external pressure. For example, there are national geo-zones (RU - Russia, DE - Germany, etc.) and general ones (.com, biz, .org, etc.).

National geo-zones operate under the auspices of their country's legislation. For example, domain1. ru can be blocked by the Russian police or the court by sending a corresponding instruction to the registrar company.

Shared Web Zones are controlled by ICANN, which can disable a domain if it deems it necessary. If you register a web domain with a company that may be under pressure from the outside, it means you are using the services of a non-bullying registrar.

Illegal topics often use the bullet-proof web zone CC (mainland Australia, Cocos Islands) or China, Canada, USA. Of course, the law must be followed. But if you are afraid of the interest of relevant organizations, it is better to pay attention to the geo-zones of another country and to foreign registrars. Some bulletproof companies: Iinternetbs, Regway, Ahnames, etc.

How to change registrar

If for any reason you want to change the domain support company, then by law you can easily do this. The web name must be reserved for you, and its registration period must not expire in the near future. To change the domain registrar, you must provide a list of required documents upon request in person or by mail. For individuals, notarization of documents is required.

How to find out the registrar

Sometimes it is necessary to find out which company provided the booking services. For example, you want to buy a website, or a web resource comes from a third party for your support. To do this, you can find out all the information about the domain in any whois service.

In the proposed example, the registrar company is Ru-Center. You can directly contact the registrar company at the specified address. In addition, this service shows who the administrator is, what hosting the web resource is located on, and when the name registration expires.

Choose the right domain name and reserve it from an accredited registrar.

Prices for domain names in the RU zone vary several times. From a maximum of 590 rubles in the RU-center to 85..90 from partners of other registrars. In this article I will tell you how to register a domain with the official registrar at the lowest price. At the same time, you do not need to deposit large sums of money into the system balance or register hundreds of domain names. That is, you will receive a low price immediately for the first domain.

Accredited Registrar

Domain names can be purchased directly from the official registrar or from its partners. The price of the latter is always lower. The current list of accredited registrars of the RU zone can be found at https://cctld.ru/ru/registrators/. The largest (but not the cheapest) registrar on this market is Ru-Center (nic.ru).

If desired, anyone (a legal entity) can also become an accredited registrar and purchase domain names in the RU and RF zones at cost. True, this is a troublesome task and is only worth it if registering domains is your business.

Domain name registrar partners

Registrar partners, also known as resellers, sell domains (domain names) cheaper than accredited registrars, since they have lower purchasing prices than retail buyers.

If you are offered a domain in the RU zone for less than 150 rubles, then most likely you are a reseller.

Domain registration and renewal price

The price of registering a domain name can be noticeably lower than 100 rubles, but Please note the cost of renewal. To attract customers, many registrars and resellers sell domains at a minimum price of 85..90 rubles, but renewal for the next year is already 400..600 rubles.

How to become a domain name reseller

As you might have guessed, to buy domains cheaply you need to become a partner of one of the accredited registrars. The conditions for each registrar are different, but the general idea is this: the more domain names you register, the lower their price. The second guarantor of a low price can be an advance payment on your account with the registrar. For example, they put 5,000 rubles on their balance. — buy domains for 150 rubles, deposit 10,000 rubles. - 125 each.

How to buy domains cheaply without investment

One of the most popular accredited domain name registrars in the RU zone - REG.RU, I found interesting conditions for the affiliate program:

To get the 149/149 tariff (149 rubles for domain registration and 149 rubles for domain renewal), you just need to install the domain registration panel from REG.RU on your web server.

REG.Panel itself is a ready-made solution for creating a business for reselling domains and hosting services. It is completely free and with its help you can sell more than 300 services: domains, hosting, VPS servers; use any registrar services and much more.

For owners of their own servers, installing the REG.Panel panel will not be difficult. And even if you do not plan to develop a hosting and domain reseller business, then as a REG.RU partner you receive a special tariff schedule. And this is the starting tariff for domain registration for 149 rubles, a 10% discount on hosting, and a 15% discount on SSL certificates. And note all this is completely free!

“Domain theft,” or more precisely, unauthorized changes of NS servers, incorrect registrations by resellers, and simply registration errors, continue. The topic is not new, but, as practice shows, it does not lose its relevance year after year.
I tried to collect in one place all the advice on the correct registration of domains. At the same time, I remembered several myths about domains.
Even if you know more about domains than I do, please look at the article - together we will create the “Most Complete Guide”, the article is aimed at beginners.
Where and how to register domains? What to do if the domain is already registered, but there are doubts about the correctness of its registration?
To be specific, prices and conditions apply to the .RU zone.

Domain registrars

You can register a domain with accredited registrars, or with their partners - domain resellers.
There are 24 accredited registrars in the.RU zone, and 18 in the RF zone. The list is published on the official website of the Coordination Center for the National Internet Domain
www.cctld.ru/ru/registrators
The largest registrar in this market is Ru-Center (nic.ru).
Domain name resellers are partners of one or more accredited registrars. These are hosting providers, design studios and specialized domain resellers. Moreover, these can be both private individuals and official companies. Resellers make money on the difference between partner prices and consumer prices and can only accept payments and change settings - they cannot change the owner themselves. Those. in fact, the domain is also registered through an accredited registrar.
Myth - you can’t register domains “for 100 rubles”
The officially recommended price is 500 rubles. But affiliate prices can be 90 rubles or less, and therefore, you can find offers for domain registration for about 100 rubles. This does not mean that domains “over a hundred” are worse than domains “over six hundred”. These are the same domains. But when purchasing through a private reseller, you may encounter a lack of support, you will not receive accounting documents, there will be no one to file a claim with - and other nuances of cheapness. But these costs may not exist.

How to check the integrity of a site?

To check the integrity of the service, look at the reviews on the Internet; if payment is offered via WebMoney, you can check the reviews on the official website using WMID or the website.

It is worth making sure that you are paying the site owner, and not to a wallet belonging to an unknown person. This can be done by checking the WMID specified by the service.

When paying with Yandex.Money, you can check that the seller’s Store is registered in the Domains or Hosting section.

You can simply search for reviews on the Internet about this site.

The T&C and PR of the site will to some extent give an idea of the seriousness of the company (you can check it with any service, for example: cy-pr.com.

Look at the whois of the registrar's domain - there you can see the owner of the domain and the date of domain registration.

Of course, you should pay attention to the presence of an SSL certificate, a legal entity, postal address, telephone numbers on the website, an offer agreement - and other optional signs of a serious service.

Myth - you can’t get domains for free through promotions
Can. But carefully read the terms of the promotion, read reviews about the company. The domain must be registered to you, and not to the hosting provider or design studio. Otherwise, you will later find out that the domain has been received “for temporary partial management.” Such a concept does not exist in nature - either the domain is yours or not.

How to check a registered domain?

Whois. There are many services, for example:
http://nic.ru/whois/

The domain must be registered with the data you provided during registration - i.e. in your name or your company. Otherwise, demand that the information be corrected immediately. If they refuse to help you, contact an accredited registrar (if purchased through a reseller) or the Coordination Center (cctld.ru).

Myth - domain documents
Registrars often provide various forms of “domain documents” confirming the owner. Only these documents do not have legal force and do not protect against anything - from the point of view of the rules of domain registration, the administrator (owner) of a domain is determined not by a paper document, but by whois data. You can conclude a paper contract with official companies.
But if it makes you feel better, then go ahead.
Myth - to place a domain on hosting you need to confirm that you are the owner of the domain
This is of no use - the services are completely different. The hoster doesn't care who owns the domain.
Moreover, the owner of the account (personal account) and the owner of the domain can be different people or organizations. Those. It doesn’t matter who pays for the renewal and registration of the domain - the owner is still the one to whom the domain is registered.

What to do if the registration data is incorrect?

Write to the registrar. The action is largely up to the accredited registrar. The issue is resolved.
Myth - I’m not happy with everything about the registrar, but I can’t do anything!
You can always change the registrar. All registrars provide information on how to do this, but often this information is hidden away. The difficulty is that you need to provide a notarized original application or come in person with documents and powers of attorney.
However, if you leave one reseller for another or transfer control directly to an accredited registrar without changing the registrar, everything is much simpler. For example, Ru-Center allows you to do this online, and Webnames (Ragtime LLC) allows you to do this using a simple scan of a letter with an application; there is no need to notarize it.
Reseller consent is not required. You can always enter into a direct contract with the registrar.
The option “wait until the registration period expires and buy the same domain elsewhere” is strongly not recommended. Your domain may be intercepted by a cybersquatter or end up at a registrar auction (however, this is almost the same thing).

How to identify a registrar?

Use whois. In the registrar field, see the entry *-REG-RIPN
You can use it to identify the registrar by comparing it with the nic-handle field in the official list of registrars.
Myth - I'm transferring a site to another hoster - I need to transfer the domain too
Not necessary. You can simply pay for the domain and hosting services either in one place or in different places.
Myth - they sold me a domain - they gave me the password for the profile
When selling a domain, you need to create your own profile with the registrar (if not), and send the seller a notarized application according to the registrar’s model about transferring the domain to another administrator (owner). Only after the domain appears in your profile and the whois with your data is displayed - it is yours. Yes, it is not so simple, but stealing a domain is also problematic.
If you are afraid, use auctions or the “Directed Domain Transfer” service, many registrars now offer this, for example: nic.ru.
When transferring/selling a domain, you can either leave the domain with the same registrar or transfer it to another.

You can change the administrator (owner) of a domain only 90 days after registering the domain. and this is done only on an official statement certified by a notary (there are no problems with this, since notaries do not certify a document, but only your signature).

Myth - if the registrar closes, you will lose the domain
ICANN periodically announces the termination of accreditation (Russian registrars are not found there). In this case, on a competitive basis, domains are transferred en masse to other accredited registrars.
In the case of resellers, it is even simpler - the domains remain with the accredited registrar.
Myth - I can pay for domain registration for 100 years
In the RU zone - only for a year. The solution is to keep the funds on your balance and enable auto-renewal of the domain (if available from the registrar).
But, for example, the domain TO (http://to.) - please: 100 years for US$2500. The maximum payment period depends on the zone.
Myth - I can register a domain for any data
This is not the case in the RU and RF zones. It is recommended to indicate real data, since domains with a status (see the state field in the whois service) UNVERIFIED can be removed from delegation and registration terminated.
To confirm your registration data, simple scans of documents are sufficient, but even if you are fluent in Photoshop, take your time. Registration with your data allows you to restore control of the domain “if something happens.”
Myth - domain name starts with www
A domain name (or second-level domain) consists of the name itself and the zone. For example example.ru - “example in the ru zone”. www.example.ru is already a third-level domain; it does not need to be registered. Such an address can be created later (and this is no longer a question for the registrar - but for the hoster), and the domain “with www” can point to the site (be an alternative domain name), but this tradition is not a hard and fast rule.
Myth - I bought a domain - it doesn't work
If the DNS servers for the domain are configured correctly and the domain is added to the DNS servers (their names must be provided by the hoster, or you can use external DNS servers), the zone should be updated from 6 hours to several days. This depends not on the registrar, not on the hoster, but on the Internet providers. This is why a website can work from home, but be inaccessible from the office - different Internet providers.
Myth - my website is Russian and will be hosted in Russia - I need a RU domain
Of course not. You can register a domain in dozens of zones. Of course, the zones have “career guidance”:
RU - Russia
NET - networks
ORG - organizations (non-profit)
COM - commercial organizations, etc.
But these are conditional restrictions. By the way, several interesting areas:
na, to, bo, at, me, in, pro, jobs.
You can fantasize about domains: spasi.bo. Play on the English meaning of me and in or emphasize professionalism (although in the pro zone this is not so easy). Well, prices in some “interesting” areas are high - how about €3000 for NA? But maybe are.na is worth it?
Myth - there is a hiding of owner data in all zones
In the RU and RF zones there is a Private Person option (when registering as a private person or individual entrepreneur). Enabled in the domain control panel. But in the zones COM NET TV CC WS INFO BIZ ORG MOBI ASIA (etc.) there is no such option, and registrars offer a paid service “Protection of registration data”. In this case, “the data of the domain registrar’s trusted legal entity will be displayed in the WHOIS.” For example, webnames does this.
Myth - domains.ru, .com, .net, .org
I almost forgot about this myth. There are no such domains officially and never have been. That, however, does not prevent this “air” from being sold to some registrars.
Of course, you can register such a domain, and it will even work. But it will only work for you and those of your friends who have installed plugins for their browsers, in accordance with the instructions.
Search engines “don’t use” these plugins, so you’ll also have to forget about search engines with that domain name.

IDN - Internationalized Domain Name

In several zones, for example COM, NET, SU and others, you can register domains in national alphabets, for example, in Cyrillic. The domain name must be in one language, so phishing (due to mixing characters from different alphabets) will not work. And the site will open in most modern browsers. There is little joy from such a domain - it’s inconvenient to enter - but there are fans.
It even happens that the domain is registered example.com- can be registered uchfzdu.com- in case a potential visitor forgets to switch the layout (some browsers add the com zone automatically).
In the Russian Federation zone, you can only register in Cyrillic.
  • Choose a registrar you can trust.
  • Register only to the actual owner of the domain.
  • If you register for a promotion, carefully read the terms and conditions of the promotion.
  • Be sure to send scans of documents (RU, Russian Federation), even if the domain was registered a long time ago.
  • A few hours after registration, check whois - your data and VERIFIED status should be there (after checking the documents, usually from 1 day to a month).
  • After domain renewal (within 3 days), make sure in whois that the domain registration period has changed (paid-till field: YYYY.MM.DD).
  • You must obtain a login and password to manage your domain. If you purchase a domain from a reseller, you must be given a login and password for the domain control panel of an accredited registrar.
  • When registering, be careful when using email addresses obtained from free email services - they may be disabled for inactivity and control may be intercepted.
  • Use complex and complex passwords to access the panel and mail. Do not store passwords in mailboxes, do not save them in browsers and email programs.
  • Don't forget to renew your domain registration - in the RU zone this is done once a year.
  • To hide your data, use Private Person and provide individual contact information for the domain (for individuals only). In this case, you will avoid fraud using publicly available whois data - since the information will be published:
    person: Private person
And not the address and telephone number that you indicated when registering the domain, but contact information specifically intended for public access.
  • If the Internet is a serious business for you, register domains under a legal entity. Take care of your heirs, there is no inheritance of domains by individuals: .
  • If a startup is destined to become super-profitable, register domains in several zones and with different spellings. There is no need to give too much freedom to create phishing sites and make money from “spoofed” visitors.
  • If you plan to register a dozen domains, become a partner of an accredited registrar. Many offer very competitive prices starting from 1000 rubles for total costs or special conditions for mass registration. There is also a minus - most likely you will have to draw up a paper contract.
  • Read the Rules for registering domain names in the RU and RF domains so that the terms of division and other conditions do not come as a surprise to you. Please note that some domain zones have special conditions.
  • If you have a “potentially vulnerable” site and you are afraid of arousing the interest of the relevant authorities, use common domain zones: COM, NET, ORG. It will be problematic to split up your domain or deregister it. Of course, laws must be observed, we all understand that.

I believe that every habrauser knows all this himself, but novice domain owners also read habr - good luck to them!

Thanks in advance for adding the article and advice.

Highly recommend Don't buy too cheap hosting! As a rule, there are a lot of problems with it: the server sometimes does not work, the equipment is old, support takes a long time to respond or cannot solve the problem, the hoster’s website is buggy, errors in registration, payment, etc.

We have also collected tariffs from thousands of hosters so that you can choose hosting at a specific price.

Cloud hosting- load distribution across several servers if the server with your site is overloaded or does not work. This is a guarantee that users will be able to see your site in any case. But this is an expensive, more complex option that not all providers provide.

Shared hosting- suitable for most entry-level projects with traffic up to 1000 people per day. In such hosting, the server power is divided between several hosting accounts. The service is easy to set up even for beginners.

VPS- suitable for more complex projects with a fairly large load and attendance of up to 10,000 people per day. Here, the server capacity is fixed for each virtual server, while the complexity of configuration increases.

Dedicated server- needed for very complex and resource-intensive projects. A separate server is allocated for you, the power of which only you will use. Expensive and difficult to set up.

Accommodation and maintaining your own server in a hosting data center is not a very popular service and is required in exceptional cases.

CMS is a website content management system. Hosters try to make a separate tariff for each of them or simplify installation. But in general, these are more marketing moves, because... Most popular CMSs do not have special hosting requirements, and those that do exist are supported on most servers.

Test period- provided by the hoster free of charge for 7-30 days so that you can verify its quality.

Moneyback- the period during which the hoster undertakes to return the money if you do not like the hosting.

Bulletproof hosting- companies that allow you to post almost any content, even prohibited content (spam, warez, doorways, pornographic materials). Such companies do not remove the content of your website at the first complaint (“abuse”).

Unlimited hosting- hosting that has no limits on the number of sites, databases and mailboxes, traffic, disk space, etc. Usually this is more of a marketing gimmick, but you might find something interesting for yourself.

Secure hosting- one where the administration constantly updates the software installed on the servers, installs basic protection against DDoS attacks, antivirus and firewalls, blocks hacked sites and helps to “cure” them.

DDOS protection- companies that provide hosting with protection against DDoS attacks. Such packages are significantly more expensive than regular ones, but they are worth the money, since your site will be protected from all types of network attacks.
