Write information to a windows 7 disk. How to write files to a disk. Using programs

Users from time to time burn various files onto DVD discs (movies, music, photos, etc.), using various third-party programs for this purpose. But many users still do not know that in order to burn files to a DVD disc, it is not necessary to use third-party programs, since this can be done using the Windows system itself.

Despite the fact that now there are more convenient and reliable ways to store information (for example, a flash drive), DVDs are still popular. Such disks are relatively inexpensive, and if you handle them carefully, the information recorded on them will be safe.

What do we need to record such a disc?

For this we need:

1) Actually, the empty DVD disc (or CD) itself, on which the recording will be made. It is important that this disc is in good condition, with no physical damage (no scratches).

2) DVD burner drive.

3) Installed Windows operating system (XP, Vista, Seven or Eight).

P.S. This article describes the process of burning a disc in the Windows 7 operating system.

Burning a DVD

1) Insert a blank disc into the DVD burner drive. If you see an autorun window with action suggestions, close it (red cross in the upper right corner).

2) Now you need to specify the files to record; this can be done in different ways (choose the option that seems more convenient to you):

A) Select the required files and folders (using the mouse or keyboard, holding down the Shift or Ctrl keys). Right-click on any selected file, select Send from the drop-down menu, and select your drive from the additional list that opens.

b) Select the files you want and click the “Burn to optical disc” button.

V) You don’t have to immediately select files for recording (which is convenient, for example, in cases where there are a lot of files and they are located in different folders). In this case, simply go through “my computer” to the DVD drive, and then select the file system type (see point 3). Then add the necessary files for recording.

3) A window will appear in which you will need to select the file system type.

What to choose is up to you (personally, I choose the second option). I will not describe the advantages and disadvantages of these formats here; if you want to know more, there is help there (click on the link “Which format should I use?”).

4) You now have files prepared for recording. If necessary, you can add more files to record, or delete unnecessary ones. In general, until you start recording directly, you can edit this list of prepared files.

5) After you are sure that all the necessary files have already been added, click on the “Burn to CD” button.

6) After which you will be asked to enter the name of the disc (enter your own, or leave it as default), and also select the recording speed. Click next, after which recording to the disk will begin directly.

After a certain time (depending on the amount of data being written, as well as the recording speed), a message will appear indicating that your files have been successfully written.

There are many software tools that are equipped with such functions as disc recording. Traditional ones are Nero, Ashampoo Burning Studio, ImgBurn. But not all users know that in fact these programs are designed for other actions, for example, burning discs from an image, removing an image, and others. If you just need to transfer files to a CD or DVD, but you don’t want to bother with downloading and installing additional software, then Windows 7 will help you burn discs, or rather its explorer - a built-in universal tool that has the necessary functionality for basic operations with optical carriers.

So, what do you need to do to “burn through” an empty media?

Select all the files in Explorer that you want to burn. By right-clicking on the selected files, call up the context menu, select "Send" - "DVD drive".

After completing the steps, the system will create a special temporary folder where these files will be placed. In Windows 7, burning discs is much easier due to the fact that there is no need to search for files throughout the hard drive, and you do not need to collect all the necessary files and folders in one place.

Once you have selected all the files you want, insert a blank CD, DVD, or Blu-ray into your computer's burner tray, depending on the characteristics of which you can use certain laser media. In Explorer, double-click to open the DVD drive. At the top of the dialog box, find the “Burn files to disk” button. Windows 7 offers two ways to do this: use the future optical media as a flash drive or with a DVD player. Conveniently, a description of each method is immediately provided. If you are going to use the disk only with computers running the Windows operating system, then the first option is suitable for you, otherwise choose the second. After clicking the “Next” button, you will see how the system formats the disk, that is, it completely cleans and prepares it for recording, which takes some time.

After the recording process is completed (this will be the LFS file system, if you have previously selected recording as a flash drive), you should close the session with the disk so that it can open normally on other computers. Microsoft has provided this operation to be performed automatically when ejecting the media from the DVD drive, but it would be much more reliable if you performed this action manually using simple instructions:

  1. Left-click once on the icon of the device on which the discs were recorded.
  2. There is a “Close Session” button on the toolbar that you need to click.
  3. Wait a bit.

It may happen that you forgot to perform the above procedure, in which case you should not be nervous. You can also close a session on another computer before using it. Be sure to remember that to close a session you need about 20 MB of space on your recordable CD or DVD.

7 does not provide any advanced control over information, however, it is a standard tool that will give you the opportunity to quickly “burn through” optical media without unnecessary problems. To burn discs with advanced parameters, use programs like Nero or ImgBurn.

If you are not confident in your abilities, then using the materials in this article, you can learn how to correctly burn an ISO image Windows 7 or Windows 10(the process is the same for both versions of Windows) to a DVD using the program Ultra ISO, Nero or free software BurnWare Free.

Introduction

Disk image is a special format file that contains all contents of a CD or DVD disc.

An analogy can be drawn with a rar or zip archive.

In this case we are considering ISO image. ISO (.iso) is a generally accepted format that most programs created for recording information on CDs and DVDs can work with.

UltraISO can also burn an ISO image of Windows 7 or Windows 10.

You must correctly select the bitness of the Windows distribution that you are going to burn to disk for subsequent installation of Windows.

How to burn an image to UltraISO

If you do not yet have UltraISO installed, you can download it from the link above. Then you will need to install it. Installation is very simple and takes place in literally 3 mouse clicks. You can leave all settings (checkboxes) as default.

  1. The program is paid, but you can use the trial period. In the "Welcome!" window just select the appropriate item - Trial period...(picture 1).

Figure 1. The trial version of UltraISO is enough to burn an ISO image of windows 7 or windows 10 to disk

  2. After starting the program you need to select the menu item “Tools” → “Burn CD image...”(Figure 2). Wrong just drag and drop the image into the list of files, because... you write down the image file, and we need to burn it content to the disk so that it becomes bootable.

Figure 2. Select the menu "Tools" → "Burn CD Image..." to burn an ISO image

  3. In the recording window that opens, use the button «...» as shown in Figure 3 and select the ISO image on your hard drive.
  4. It is important to choose the correct disc writing speed. If you are using a rewritable disc (DVD-RW), you can leave the maximum speed. Otherwise, it is better to set the speed to x4 or x8 (for older DVD drives it may be lower) to minimize the risk of damaging the disc when recording.

Figure 3. Use the "..." button to select an image file on your computer.

  5. Click on the button "Record"(it is circled in Figure 3).
When recording to a rewritable disc, formatting will be required, which will take an additional few minutes.
Wait until the disc is burned - the corresponding information will appear in the program (see Figure 4)

Burning a Windows 7 Image to Nero Burning

Nero Burning Rom- a very well-known and proven program for burning discs. If this is exactly what you have on your computer, then below you can familiarize yourself with the steps you need to perform to record an image of Windows 7 or Windows 10 for later installation.
    1. First of all, install this program on your computer and run it (Figure 5):

Figure 9. Starting to burn a disc with Windows 7 or Windows 10.

    2. And first of all, click “Cancel”, and then go to the main screen of the program.

Figure 12. Setting disc burning settings
The first tab, “Info,” provides only brief information about the project being recorded. The second tab “Recording” has a number of settings. Let's take a closer look at those that are necessary to record our image:

      - Recording.

      - Disc burning (enabled by default).

      - Finalize CD - for this mode this function is not active, the disc is finalized automatically.

      - Write speed - select the disk recording speed.
The recording speed is automatically adjusted to the maximum speed supported by the blank CD. The value of this parameter depends on the type of CD being written.
Choosing the right speed is necessary to minimize the risk of errors when burning a disc, so it is better to wait longer, but burn the disc without errors. We already wrote above that if you are using a rewritable disc (DVD-RW), then you can leave the maximum speed.
Otherwise, it is better to set the speed to x4 or x8 (for older DVD drives, perhaps less) to minimize the risk of damage to the disc during recording.
Also look carefully at what maximum recording speed is indicated on the disk itself (for example: x2, x4, x8, x16). It is better to divide this speed by 2 or 4.

      - Number of copies - the number of discs you want to burn at the same time.

    3. After selecting all the settings, click “Burn” to burn our image.
    4. The Windows installation disk is ready!

Why is it better to use third-party programs to record an image rather than the built-in mechanism of Windows 7

Starting with Windows 7, Winodws has built-in mechanisms for burning CD or DVD discs.
But their quality leaves much to be desired: recording with standard Windows mechanisms often leads to damage to a CD or DVD disc, so it is better to use well-known programs that have been tested by time and millions of users (although even they sometimes fail).

Quite often there is a need to burn ISO images to CD / DVD discs, be it an image of an operating system, games or a Rescue CD image (rescue disk). A novice user may have some questions about how to correctly and how to burn an image to disk.

Let's look at several ways to burn ISO images: using the built-in tools for recording data on optical media in Windows 7 and the free BurnAware Free program.

You can find the definition of what an ISO image is on the Wikipedia page.
You can download the latest version of the program and read a brief overview of it at the program.

Operating systems are often stored or distributed as disk images. Such images have. An ISO file contains the entire contents of the disc, and in order to get a ready-to-use disc, you need to burn the ISO onto a blank disc.

Many users ask how to burn a Windows image to disk. In fact, this is very simple to do, and in this article we will talk about this in as much detail as possible using the example of such programs as UltraIso, CDBurnerXP and ImgBurn. In addition, we will look at the process of burning a disk image using standard Windows tools.

In general terms, the process of burning a disk image with the Windows operating system looks like this:

  • First of all, insert a blank disk into the drive. If you are recording an image of Windows XP, then a CD disc will be enough for you, but if you plan to record Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, then you will need a DVD disc;
  • Next you need to open the ISO image using a disc burning program and make some settings;
  • Click on the “Record” button and wait until the disc is written;
