Huawei Y6 Pro review: a smartphone with pitfalls. Review of the Huawei Y6II smartphone: let's hit the old stuff against the new competitors! The main camera of a mobile device is usually located on its back panel and can be combined with one or more additional cameras.

Huawei, as usual, is in its repertoire: it “re-released” the existing model, called it differently, and presented the device on the international market. Huawei Enjoy 5, Honor Holly 2 Plus, Honor 5X Play, Honor 4C Pro are the same smartphone. Only now it is called Huawei Y6 Pro. Announced in 2015, but still sold to this day.

The Y6 Pro is a budget model, but is interesting due to its solid battery capacity and decent amount of RAM. The minimum price that could be found in online stores is $135. Well-known and well-promoted stores sell goods a little more expensive – for 155 USD. The prices shown are approximate and valid at the time of writing this review.

The smartphone has a good filling, as for a budget device.

Design, buttons and connectors

There are no surprises in terms of design: a typical plastic rectangle with rounded corners. The thickness of 9.7 mm and weight of 160 g is due to the capacious battery. The height of the product is 143.1 mm, width – 71.8 mm.

The sloping back panel is covered with a diagonal pattern that can be felt with your fingers.

Not far from the front camera and the speaker grille there is an event indicator. Most of the elements on the body have a classic, familiar arrangement.

The power/volume buttons are on the edge on the right, the multimedia speaker and MicroUSB are on the bottom.

3.5 mm audio jack – on top.
But the navigation buttons are programmatically displayed on the display. The model is available in three colors: gold, white and gray.

CPU

Since this model focuses on autonomy, an economical 64-bit MediaTek MT6735P processor with a Mali-T720 video chip was installed, as the information on the official website and most reviewers says. But after installing the CPU-Z applicationit became clear that the smartphone has a different chipset, namely MT6582 with Mali-400 MP video chip. And this is a weaker chipset. The difference in the Antutu test is 10,000 points: MT6735P scores 35,000; MT6582 - 25,000 points. Why is this happening?

But the thing is that in addition to different names in different regions, a smartphone called Huawei Y6 Pro is also listed on the official website as a smartphone with a more powerful chipset than it actually is. There are many build numbers, the main ones are:

  • HUAWEI Y6 Pro TIT-U02 - MediaTek MT6582 + Mali-400MP2
  • TIT-AL00 (Enjoy 5 and other models) - MT6735P + Mali-T720
  • TIT-L01 (Honor 4C Pro) - MT6735P + Mali-T720

The HUAWEI Y6 Pro TIT-U02 model is sold in Ukraine; it does not have LTE and has a weaker chipset.

When purchasing, go to Settings > About phone > Build number, and make sure which device you are purchasing. Due to incorrect information on the official website, there may be confusion in Ukraine that a device is being sold with the MT6735P + Mali-T720 chipset, but in fact it is a weaker chip.

Because of this, many bloggers wrote incorrect information about the smartphone that is sold in Ukraine. Hello, can you hear me?)

Some people complain that resource-intensive games lag and freeze. You just don’t always need to rely on standard optimization for specific hardware. Modern games provide the ability to independently set the appropriate settings. As a rule, with such hardware you need to focus on medium and low parameters.

Memory

The smartphone has 2 GB of RAM. An excellent indicator for a budget model. This is enough for an unpretentious user to run several applications simultaneously.

Built-in memory – 16 GB. Let's subtract what the system takes and we get 10.55 GB of free space. You can load applications and some games there, and there will still be some space left. And if not, don’t worry, a removable drive comes to the rescue. In the settings, you can select it as the main location for installing applications. The maximum size of a supported flash drive is 128 GB, and a separate slot is provided for it.

Autonomous operation

As mentioned earlier, the main feature of this device can be considered its high battery capacity: 4000 mAh. Excellent battery life in mixed use cases. If you take your smartphone seriously, turn on wireless data transfer, and torment it with the Internet, calls, watching videos, filming with a camera, it will easily withstand a day under extreme loads.

With more moderate use, the battery usually lasts for two days. If you turn off wireless networks and run FullHD video at full brightness, it will play continuously for up to 10 hours. And it will take 2 hours to fully recharge.

Like other devices from this manufacturer, there is an advanced power consumption setting mode. It allows you to keep control over charge consumption. To the point of limiting functionality for the sake of additional hours of battery life. You can also charge other mobile devices by connecting to the MicroUSB connector.

Camera

The main camera allows you to take pictures with a resolution of 13 MP. The aperture value is f/2.0. There is autofocus, which works quickly during the day, and a medium-brightness LED flash. The camera application is quite functional, yet easy to learn. You can change exposure values and adjust focus on the fly. It is possible to adjust white balance, contrast, ISO, saturation, sharpness.

In ideal lighting conditions, the automation correctly selects the white balance. The resulting images have good contrast and good color rendition. The overall level of detail is normal, and at close ranges it is even good.

If you look closely at daytime photos, you can see grain and noise. However, we will make a discount on the budget of the device.

When creating panoramas, the frames are well glued together, the “seams” are invisible. The smartphone copes best with product photography; you can achieve a beautiful bokeh effect (see box above). Indoors with artificial lighting, detail is reduced, but the camera holds up well.

In room

Another indoor shot:

Even at night you can get more or less acceptable quality footage.

Unexpectedly: the stock camera allows you to record videos in maximum HD (1280 x 720) resolution. The quality is also dull: there is not enough color saturation and picture clarity. The 5 MP front module is wide-angle (84 degrees), so not only the face of the smartphone owner is placed in the frame. The quality of the resulting photographs is quite acceptable.

Selfie camera shot

Video recording is possible in HD resolution.

Display

Diagonal 5 inches, resolution 1280 x 720, IPS matrix. Pixel density 293 dpi. For budget employees - a classic of the genre. The image quality is expectedly good, both in contrast and color rendition. By tilting the device in different directions, the user will not notice strong fading of the image or inversion of colors on the screen. The minimum brightness level is quite comfortable for using the device in complete darkness.

When exposed to direct sunlight, unfortunately, the brightness reserve is not enough, and the contents of the screen fade. For those who lack the saturation of the image, or, on the contrary, prefer calmer tones, the ability to adjust the color temperature will be useful. The touchscreen can recognize up to 5 simultaneous presses.

There is also an unpleasant moment (not everyone has it): sometimes the touchscreen has some problems with pressure sensitivity. Therefore, you have to either “poke” it several times, or press harder than usual. Usually, to correct the situation, you need to find the “Accessibility” section in the settings menu. There will be a “Sensitive Mode” item, and you need to activate it. However, no such problems were noticed in our smartphone.

Networking capabilities

Under the back cover there are slots for 2 micro-SIM cards. The smartphone is designed to work in 2G/3G networks. WiFi single band – 2.4 GHz. Bluetooth version – 4.0. All communications work flawlessly.

Responsible for navigation and geopositioning: GPS, GLONASS, A-GPS. Processors from MediaTek have not earned the best reputation due to known problems with navigation. However, Huawei Y6 Pro surprises with excellent GPS and GLONASS performance. It “clings” to satellites very quickly, cold start in just 15 seconds. With a hot start, all navigation systems are ready for operation in less than 10 seconds.

Sound

The main speaker is average in volume, normal in sound quality. Compare with many other budget models. The earpiece is normal, it doesn’t “scream”, but it’s not quiet either. The volume reserve when listening to music on headphones is not the most impressive. If the environment is noisy, you have to raise the volume level to the maximum value. Enthusiasts found a solution to this problem by making changes to the engineering menu.

Software part

Android 5.1 is used as the operating system. The shell is EMUI 3.1 Lite, which is radically different in appearance from the stock Android interface. The lightweight version of the shell is simple and without additional features. Only the most important and useful branded applications remain. The full version of EMUI is usually installed on more expensive and more powerful smartphones.

There is information from the manufacturer's support service that work is underway to update the firmware to Android 6. Naturally, no one gives specific dates.

Additional features

  • The smartphone can be turned into a Power Bank by selecting the appropriate option in the settings section.
  • In emergency situations, you can discreetly activate video recording even if the screen is locked. To do this, it is enough to make a predetermined number of presses on the volume button.

Advantages and disadvantages

Pros:

  • good autonomy;
  • excellent performance of navigation modules;
  • good photo opportunities;
  • separate slots for SIM and MicroSD.

Minuses:

  • low resolution and quality of recorded video;
  • problems with touch sensitivity;
  • non-removable battery in a plastic case.

Who is a smartphone suitable for?

For those who are looking for an inexpensive dual-SIM 3G/4G device with a decent battery, a decent camera, and fast and stable navigation.

Our review of the Huawei Y6 Pro smartphone

On the one hand, in its price category the smartphone is not bad in most respects, and has quite significant advantages. On the other hand, the nuances described in the review with video resolution and a glitchy sensor are perceived as nonsense. Such ridiculous and obvious mistakes should not be made, despite the fact that this is a budget model. However, there are owners of Huawei Y6 Pro who do not care about the quality of video recording, and they solved the problem with the screen by increasing its sensitivity to touch.

The Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 smartphone is a rare example of a budget gadget that combines premium features, stylish appearance and an affordable price.

Laconic and stylish

The smartphone has an impressive and practical design. The strict plastic case with a matte finish is complemented by a chrome frame, which gives the gadget both a classic and modern look. The screen, as expected in 2018, is FullView with thin frames and glossy 2.5D glass. There is nothing superfluous on the front panel, since all the navigation buttons are on the screen.

High build quality is complemented by comfort during use. The smartphone has extremely pleasant ergonomics, which is achieved by rounded edges and corners. The dimensions also facilitate convenient one-handed operation: with a height of 152.4 mm, a width of 73 mm and a thickness of 7.8 mm, the gadget weighs only 150 grams. So the hand does not get tired even after using the device for many hours.

Full palette of colors

Y6 Prime 2018 received a 5.7-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display has high contrast, good detail and natural color reproduction.

Even in sunny weather, all information remains readable without loss of color shades, so you can see the smallest details of on-screen interfaces. In addition, already proven vision protection technology is used here. You can adjust colors and contrast depending on the time of day, adjust color temperature, and change screen resolution.

Time-tested iron

The smartphone runs on one of the most popular quad-core chipsets, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425, clocked at 1.4 GHz. This “pebble” model has proven itself in several generations of budget smartphones, providing high performance in multitasking mode. This SoC is distinguished by excellent energy efficiency indicators, due to which the 3000 mAh battery can last at maximum modes for a whole day.

The Adreno 308 3D accelerator runs games consistently at medium and high settings. And 2 GB of RAM is more than enough to perform everyday tasks and run heavy applications. If the built-in memory of 16 GB is not enough for you, you can additionally buy a 256 GB card, especially since there is a separate slot for it.

Particular attention is paid to sound quality in the smartphone. The audio processing system combined with a powerful speaker provides clear and loud sound up to 88 dB. At the same time, you can synchronize two gadgets via Bluetooth, creating a truly surround sound music party.

A camera that doesn't miss a beat

The 13-megapixel main photo module of the smartphone is characterized by fast focusing and excellent detail in good lighting. And at dusk, the HDR mode will come to the rescue.

Particular emphasis in the smartphone is placed on the quality of selfies. The 8 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, in addition to standard settings, is equipped with the “Perfect Selfie” function. With its help, you can subtly adjust your facial contour, eye size, skin tone and ambient lighting. You can also decorate the finished photo with cute stickers.

Also, the capabilities of the front module are expanded due to the facial recognition function, which allows you to unlock the smartphone screen.

How much can you, Huawei? Anyone who follows the company’s activities may ask this question - after all, in the last month alone we were shown five new smartphones (, and a series). And next up is the Huawei Y6 (2018) - it’s more budget-friendly than other new products, but no less interesting in its details.

The new product is offered in blue, black and gold colors.

The appearance is simple and a little boring. On the back panel there is a single camera with a flash and a logo (there is no fingerprint scanner here). At the front there is a 5.7-inch HD+ display with almost no side bezels and small top and bottom stripes. On top there is a front camera with face unlock function.

The cameras are nothing impressive, but are equipped with classic Huawei functionality. For example, the 5-megapixel front camera supports AR processing of future selfies with backgrounds and masks, as well as creating studio lighting effects. The rear sensor has a resolution of 13 megapixels. Other stuffing: entry-level Snapdragon 450 chip, 3000 mAh battery, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of expandable storage space.

The smartphone's multimedia capabilities, especially its audio capabilities, are interesting. The external speaker of Huawei Y6 (2018) is capable of playing music at 88 dB, which is quite good - as the manufacturers themselves say, the tracks sound high quality, but are almost 80% louder than on previous devices. We also introduced Huawei's own Histen technology, which allows us to simulate the sound of a recording in different environments - for example, in a theater or at a concert. And one more feature is synchronization with other similar smartphones for simultaneous listening to the same songs from different devices.

But it is already known that the smartphone will officially reach Russia. Just when exactly?

Sales start date is hidden Price unknown

Huawei Y6 2018 is a budget-class smartphone with a large “elongated” display. The device is equipped with a special front camera, which is designed for face unlocking. The official announcement of the gadget took place in April 2018.

Appearance and ergonomics

Huawei U6 2018 received a standard rectangular body with rounded corners. There is a metal frame around the perimeter, which not only makes the smartphone more durable, but also very stylish. The back cover is very practical, as there are practically no marks left on it. If any fingerprints remain, they will be quickly removed.

There is a large screen in front, with minimal frames around it, so there was no place for navigation buttons here - they became virtual. Only the corporate logo remains under the display. The back part was left almost entirely empty. The only exception is a separate horizontal block with the main camera and flash. At the bottom there is a multimedia speaker, and there is also a microUSB port.

The top edge received a headphone jack and a microphone. The device is truly convenient to use thanks to its light weight and optimal proportions. Inside the device there is a rechargeable battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh. Available colors: gold, blue and black. Dimensions: height - 152.4 mm, thickness - 7.8 mm, width - 73 mm, weight - 150 g.

Display

The Y6 2018 features a 5.7-inch FullView screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The S-IPS matrix has a resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels. The display is covered with 2.5D glass, which reliably protects it from scratches. This screen has a rich color scheme with a bias towards warm shades. The color temperature and some other parameters can be adjusted independently. The brightness reserve is not very large, but in many cases the display is comfortable to use. Since IPS technology is used here, the viewing angles are close to maximum values. Moreover, the colors hardly change when tilted.

Hardware and performance

The U6 2018 smartphone received a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor with a clock frequency of 1400 MHz. There is an Adreno 308 graphics accelerator. The memory can be expanded up to 256 GB using MicroSD cards. Initially, about 16 GB of free space is available to the user, while the amount of RAM is 2 GB.

Immediately after purchase, the device runs on the Android 8.0 operating system along with the EMUI 8.0 shell. For example, in the AnTuTu v6 test the gadget scores about 35,000 points, in Geekbench 4 - 1800 points (multi-core mode), Ice Storm Unlimited in 3DMark - about 10,000 points. Performance in games cannot be called high, and some projects will even run with minimal graphic settings. But in everyday tasks the performance is still sufficient. The interface functions quickly, there are no serious delays during the operation of the gadget.

Communication and sound

The budget model Huawei Y6 2018 is equipped with a very loud external speaker. Its peak volume at special moments can reach 88 dB. At the same time, sound detail does not suffer at all. It is worth noting the HUAWEI Histen technology, which optimizes sound, simulating presence in a theater or concert hall. There is a kind of orchestra function, where several phones can play the same music track, creating truly surround sound. The speaker performs well, because the interlocutor can be heard quite clearly.

Camera

The main camera in Huawei Y6 2018 is 13-megapixel, it is complemented by a really powerful LED flash, as well as phase detection autofocus. The camera has a standard set of settings and modes.

The manufacturer paid special attention to the front 5-megapixel camera. This module is great for shooting self-portraits, as it has a separate flash. The front camera also received two modes: intelligent and automatic. It is possible to change the background, or use various built-in filters. There are many tools here to enhance your self-portrait photos. Moreover, the face module is able to recognize the user’s face for further unlocking.

conclusions

Huawei has managed to make the Y6 2018 a remarkable budget smartphone in many ways. Close attention here is paid to the “frameless” design, sound and screen. The device provides good performance in standard tasks, and also boasts a new security system in the form of unlocking the device using face scanning.

Pros:

  • Nice appearance.
  • Face recognition system.
  • Large FullView display.
  • Interesting front camera.
  • Very decent sound.

Minuses:

  • The power is not enough to run many demanding games.
  • There is no fingerprint scanner.

Video reviews

The sound in headphones, however, is far from the standard. On the one hand, the sound is very “even”, that is, there is enough bass, and vocals sound normal, and “embellishments” in the songs do not fall out anywhere. The volume reserve is good; the smartphone can “boost” even high-impedance headphones to a sufficient level.

But the sound quality, I would say, is “folk” - no matter how rich in detail the audio track in your player is, in the headphones the sound is still as if you were listening to an MP3 with a bitrate of about 128-160 kbps. It seems this way because the percussion sounds “poisonous”, and the hissing sounds are reproduced with a metallic tint and hurt the ear.

Trouble, you say? Compared to the sound in Snapdragon 410/615, it’s really nothing good. But smartphones based on MT6735/6737/6753 sound even worse, and it’s impossible to talk about the sound in Spreadtrum processors without swearing. Therefore, the musical potential of the Y6II is at least enough for ordinary working people, and no one invited audiophiles to the class of cheap phablets.

Iron

In the best traditions of the Russian automobile industry, our hero received an old filling with a new appearance. They say, “uh, brother, don’t call the car Lada-Sputnik when we’re talking about VAZ-2114!” Harasho, dear, I won’t argue about marketing positioning, but the processor in the Huawei Y6II cannot even be called new at a stretch, and it’s worth talking about this in more detail.

Huawei realized long ago that it would be possible to create inexpensive smartphones only if processors did not have to be purchased externally. Therefore, the Chinese have long been designing their own Hisilicon Kirin, and then their friends at TSMC are churning out the chips on an industrial scale. At first, Huawei released exclusively slow “monsters” like the K3V2 (the culprit of torment for owners of the MediaPad 10 FHD) and the Kirin 910 (formed the basis for the clumsy MediaPad X1 and Mate 2), but later the situation improved a little. In 2015, Huawei and Honor smartphones received quite sensible Kirin 620 (for state employees) and Kirin 930-935 (for older models).
