Having paid an additional 30–50 dollars, you can already count on something more or less tolerable on a dual-core processor, with a gigabyte of memory, with a fairly high-quality 7-inch screen and a logo of some kind of company. The absolute leader among manufacturers of such tablets is Ainol, as well as lesser-known Chinese “brands” such as Onda, Ramos and Cube. For the most part, they make really good products that can be used every day, but not as a full-fledged replacement for a tablet from a renowned company (bugs and errors in internal design are quite common, especially for young companies).

Prices for 10-inch models with high-quality IPS matrices and Android 4.1 on board start at about $200, for which you will get a dual- or quad-core processor, 1–2 GB of memory, 16–32 GB of internal memory and good workmanship. The same companies rule this market, and some of them are ready to offer a product of quality, if not equal, then quite close to tablets from well-known brands. Another thing is that you still need to find a high-quality model among the trash.

Ainol Novo 7 Legend/Crystal/Flame

Novo 7 Flame is a real crown of Chinese tablet creation. In essence, this is still the same Crystal, but the display has a high-quality IPS matrix with a resolution of 1280 x 800, which provides a clear and contrasting picture with excellent color reproduction and deep blacks. For such pleasure you will have to pay about 30–40 dollars extra to the price of Crystal. In all other respects, the filling is almost completely the same as Crystal, except that for some reason the default version of Android 4.0.4 is preinstalled here (with an official update to 4.1), and Bluetooth version 2.1 has also appeared, which is not present in either Legend or younger model. If we talk about the external design and build quality, these indicators are excellent and the Novo 7 Flame is superior to both younger models. The body is practically monolithic and does not make squeaks even when twisted. The back cover is made of aluminum, which provides good heat dissipation.

It is noteworthy that the tablet also has another name - Fire, but the latter is intended for the Chinese market and is distributed in a box designed in Chinese, and without an HDMI and OTG cable included. This should be taken into account when purchasing, as well as the fact that the earliest batches of tablets were equipped with a display that... made a whistling sound (however, this defect can be corrected surgically).

Among other problems with Ainol tablets (and there are always problems if the manufacturer is Chinese), it is worth noting the defective touch panel, which appears in approximately 1% of cases and cannot yet be eliminated, as well as the “disappearance” of sections of internal memory. These and smaller software defects of the tablet are observed in all Ainol models, but almost all of them can be dealt with using various software hacks or by flashing the device. The only problem that has not yet been overcome is the defective touch panel. In this case, the tablet can be sent back to the online store under warranty, and it will be exchanged for a new one without any problems.

For a long time, Ainol stubbornly produced only 7-inch tablet models, so the recent release of the Hero model with a 10.1-inch screen became a long-awaited event, and for some connoisseurs even a landmark. But this time too the tablet turned out to be controversial. With good hardware, build and screen, it still suffers from the problems of its predecessors, as well as some new ones. But first things first.

Strictly speaking, Novo 10 Hero is the same Flame, but larger in size. The same Amlogic 8726-M6 SoC with a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB DDR3 memory chips, 16 GB of permanent NAND memory, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, and a position sensor are installed inside. The back cover is again made of aluminum. The only difference lies in the screen size and battery capacity.

The Hero's screen measures 10.1 inches with an aspect ratio of 16:10. At the same time, despite the size, its resolution remains the same, that is, 1280 x 800, which, however, does not in any way affect readability and other parameters; The picture is juicy, clear and almost not grainy. The IPS matrix is ​​no worse than that of Fire, good viewing angles with almost complete preservation of color reproduction when viewed at an angle (the picture just fades a little). In any type of activity, the picture maintains clarity and color quality, and browsing websites or watching videos on such a large screen is a pleasure.

The second distinctive feature of the tablet is a battery with a capacity of as much as 8000 mAh. It can provide approximately ten hours of operation under medium loads - this is a very, very good result. The manufacturer, by the way, claims seven hours of operation when watching videos and fifteen when listening to music, which can be easily believed. In general, the battery easily lasts to use the tablet in a variety of ways almost all day long without having to worry about charging it. The ideal device for any geek.

Other features include two stereo speakers that produce sufficiently high-quality and loud sound for tweeters, as well as the presence of Bluetooth. Otherwise, everything is standard: microSD slot, HDMI port, USB-OTG support. The design is beyond praise, it seems simple, but at the same time has its own style, which gives the tablet the charm of serious brands. The dimensions are also small, the tablet is 1 mm wider than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 3 mm longer.

Now about the disadvantages. It turned out that despite all the external splendor, the quality of workmanship and assembly itself leaves much to be desired. For example, many users note simply unacceptable discrepancies in the joints, as well as, in some cases, overtightened screen mounting bolts, which lead to glare. Problems do not appear so often, but they do occur. In addition, we can note the same proprietary Ainol bugs, including falling off internal memory, glitches with the touchpad and some other bugs. The difference between the models lies, as I already said, in the screen sizes. The M2 has a 9.7-inch screen with a standard resolution of 1024 x 768 (that is, the pixel density here is almost twice as high as on a 17-inch monitor), while the M3 has a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800. The difference This results in two simple facts. Firstly, it turns out that the M3 has a higher pixel density, so from the standard distance at which you hold the tablet, you will hardly notice the “stairs”, whereas in the M2 this effect is still there. Secondly, the M2 has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which means it's best used for web surfing and other similar tasks, while the M3 is much more convenient for watching movies.

Of particular note is the very quality of the display of both models. This is an excellent Super IPS matrix with almost unlimited viewing angles, without any darkening, with very high brightness, contrast and rich colors. Working with a tablet with such a screen is a pleasure; it does not get exposed to sunlight and provides excellent picture quality when watching HD movies.

The build quality is also excellent, the panels are neatly fitted to each other, and aluminum is used for the back wall, towards which the SoC itself is facing, so everything is in order with the heat sink. Fortunately, there are only a few problems, and all of them can be cured, although to do this you will have to go inside. The first serious problem is glare. Some have more of them, some have none at all. Apparently, it all depends on the Chinese who did the assembly. The problem is solved by carefully tightening the bolts securing the screen. The second problem is the death of the touch panel some time after the start of use. It appears in a small number of users and can be cured by soldering a diode costing one ruble between the contacts of the touch panel. The manual is available on the Internet, but if your hands are crooked, any radio technician will do it for a symbolic bottle of vodka. There are rumors that everything has already been fixed in the new batches. The third problem is poor Wi-Fi signal reception. This is a typical bug for the “Chinese”, and it is always cured by gluing the antenna closer to the edge of the tablet. Why they don't do this at the factory still remains a mystery. And finally, these are cables that can simply be loosely plugged into the sockets (manifested in a dark screen, poor performance of the touchscreen or phantom clicks). It's easy to fix, it's clear how. The case, by the way, although good, creaks when “twisted”. Another weakness of the tablet is the lack of good third-party firmware. No, there are modifications of the standard firmware, in which various Chinese gadgets have been removed, and the market has been trained to see more software, but AOKP and CyanogenMod, compiled from source, are not yet available (which is most likely a matter of time). For everyone else, I would recommend paying an extra $100 and getting a higher-quality “Chinese”, which has almost no problems. It works something like this: the company releases the first batch of a product, which quickly falls into the hands of the consumer, who, in turn, finds many bugs in it and complains about it to the company. The management of the latter kicks the engineers and assemblers, pointing out errors to them, and releases the second batch, which has fewer bugs, but still has enough. The process is repeated again, and over time the product is brought to an acceptable condition.

Following this logic, the chances of purchasing a good thing for ridiculous money increase sharply.
