Huawei Y6 - Specifications. Huawei Y6 Pro review: a smartphone with pitfalls The radio of the mobile device is a built-in FM receiver

TFT IPS- High quality liquid crystal matrix. It has wide viewing angles, one of the best indicators of color rendering quality and contrast among all those used in the production of displays for portable equipment.
Super AMOLED- if a regular AMOLED screen uses several layers, between which there is an air gap, then in Super AMOLED there is only one such touch layer without air gaps. This allows you to achieve greater screen brightness with the same power consumption.
Super AMOLED HD- differs from Super AMOLED in its higher resolution, thanks to which you can achieve 1280x720 pixels on a mobile phone screen.
Super AMOLED plus- this is a new generation of Super AMOLED displays, differs from the previous one by using a larger number of subpixels in a conventional RGB matrix. The new displays are 18% thinner and brighter than displays made using the old PenTile technology.
AMOLED- an improved version of OLED technology. The main advantages of the technology are significantly reduced power consumption, the ability to display a larger color gamut, reduced thickness and the ability of the display to bend slightly without the risk of breaking.
Retina-high pixel density display designed specifically for Apple technology. The pixel density of Retina displays is such that individual pixels are indistinguishable to the eye at a normal distance from the screen. This ensures the highest image detail and significantly improves the overall viewing experience.
Super Retina HD- the display is made using OLED technology. The pixel density is 458 PPI, the contrast reaches 1,000,000:1. The display has a wide color gamut and unsurpassed color accuracy. Pixels in the corners of the display are smoothed at the sub-pixel level, so edges are not distorted and appear smooth. The Super Retina HD reinforcing layer is 50% thicker. It will be harder to break the screen.
Super LCD is the next generation of LCD technology, it is characterized by improved characteristics compared to earlier LCD displays. The screens not only have wide viewing angles and better color reproduction, but also lower power consumption.
TFT- A common type of liquid crystal display. Using an active matrix controlled by thin-film transistors, it is possible to significantly increase the performance of the display, as well as the contrast and clarity of the image.
OLED- organic electroluminescent display. It consists of a special thin-film polymer that emits light when exposed to an electric field. This type of display has a large reserve of brightness and consumes very little energy.

Huawei Y6 2018 is a budget-class smartphone with a large “elongated” display. The device is equipped with a special front camera, which is designed for face unlocking. The official announcement of the gadget took place in April 2018.

Appearance and ergonomics

Huawei U6 2018 received a standard rectangular body with rounded corners. There is a metal frame around the perimeter, which not only makes the smartphone more durable, but also very stylish. The back cover is very practical, as there are practically no marks left on it. If any fingerprints remain, they will be quickly removed.

There is a large screen in front, with minimal frames around it, so there was no place for navigation buttons here - they became virtual. Only the corporate logo remains under the display. The back part was left almost entirely empty. The only exception is a separate horizontal block with the main camera and flash. At the bottom there is a multimedia speaker, and there is also a microUSB port.

The top edge received a headphone jack and a microphone. The device is truly convenient to use thanks to its light weight and optimal proportions. Inside the device there is a rechargeable battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh. Available colors: gold, blue and black. Dimensions: height - 152.4 mm, thickness - 7.8 mm, width - 73 mm, weight - 150 g.

Display

The Y6 2018 features a 5.7-inch FullView screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The S-IPS matrix has a resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels. The display is covered with 2.5D glass, which reliably protects it from scratches. This screen has a rich color scheme with a bias towards warm shades. The color temperature and some other parameters can be adjusted independently. The brightness reserve is not very large, but in many cases the display is comfortable to use. Since IPS technology is used here, the viewing angles are close to maximum values. Moreover, the colors hardly change when tilted.

Hardware and performance

The U6 2018 smartphone received a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor with a clock frequency of 1400 MHz. There is an Adreno 308 graphics accelerator. The memory can be expanded up to 256 GB using MicroSD cards. Initially, about 16 GB of free space is available to the user, while the amount of RAM is 2 GB.

Immediately after purchase, the device runs on the Android 8.0 operating system along with the EMUI 8.0 shell. For example, in the AnTuTu v6 test the gadget scores about 35,000 points, in Geekbench 4 - 1800 points (multi-core mode), Ice Storm Unlimited in 3DMark - about 10,000 points. Performance in games cannot be called high, and some projects will even run with minimal graphic settings. But in everyday tasks the performance is still sufficient. The interface functions quickly, there are no serious delays during the operation of the gadget.

Communication and sound

The budget model Huawei Y6 2018 is equipped with a very loud external speaker. Its peak volume at special moments can reach 88 dB. At the same time, sound detail does not suffer at all. It is worth noting the HUAWEI Histen technology, which optimizes sound, simulating presence in a theater or concert hall. There is a kind of orchestra function, where several phones can play the same music track, creating truly surround sound. The speaker performs well, because the interlocutor can be heard quite clearly.

Camera

The main camera in Huawei Y6 2018 is 13-megapixel, it is complemented by a really powerful LED flash, as well as phase detection autofocus. The camera has a standard set of settings and modes.

The manufacturer paid special attention to the front 5-megapixel camera. This module is great for shooting self-portraits, as it has a separate flash. The front camera also received two modes: intelligent and automatic. It is possible to change the background, or use various built-in filters. There are many tools here to enhance your self-portrait photos. Moreover, the face module is able to recognize the user’s face for further unlocking.

conclusions

Huawei has managed to make the Y6 2018 a remarkable budget smartphone in many ways. Close attention here is paid to the “frameless” design, sound and screen. The device provides good performance in standard tasks, and also boasts a new security system in the form of unlocking the device using face scanning.

Pros:

  • Nice appearance.
  • Face recognition system.
  • Large FullView display.
  • Interesting front camera.
  • Very decent sound.

Minuses:

  • The power is not enough to run many demanding games.
  • There is no fingerprint scanner.

Video reviews

The line of inexpensive Y smartphones from Huawei continues to be replenished with devices aimed at different budgets. Some time ago, we looked at the younger representative of the series in the person and older brother. And it is logical that between them there should be another smartphone, the so-called middling one. And he is. Today we get to know.

Technical characteristics of Huawei Y6 Prime 2018

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 is available for purchase in Ukraine for 4999 hryvnia (~$192) . It is worth noting that there is also a smartphone on the market without the Prime prefix in the name. The difference between them is that the Prime version has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, as opposed to the regular version with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. In addition to more memory, the older version received a fingerprint scanner on the back, which is not present in the standard version.

Contents of delivery

Everything here is unchanged and exactly the same as in and. A white cardboard box containing a power adapter (5V/1A), a USB/MicroUSB cable and a key for removing the slot for SIM cards and a memory card.

Design, materials and assembly

The smartphone is sold in three possible body colors: black, gold and blue. My sample is in blue.

The design of the device as a whole repeats that of its counterparts. In front is an elongated display covered with 2.5D glass with large frames on the sides and small but asymmetrical frames on the top and bottom.

The back part is made of matte plastic, but such a beautiful iridescent effect as in blue was not brought here.

But the frame around the perimeter is just as glossy. By the way, it is also plastic.

The plastic is of good quality, although even in blue it is a little easily soiled.

On the back, near the main camera block, in the place where the microphone is located, you can see a slight bulge. It is practically not felt tactilely and it is quite possible that this a feature of the test sample only.

The build of the smartphone is excellent. There are no squeaks or backlashes. A protective film is glued to the glass out of the box, but there is no oleophobic coating applied to it.

Layout of elements

In front above the screen there is a tiny event indicator, a window with light and proximity sensors, a front camera peephole, a speaker and a flash.

Under the screen there is the same Huawei inscription.

On the edge to the right -Power/Unlock button and Volume key.

On the left is a slot for two nano SIM cards and a MicroSD memory card. Full-fledged - not hybrid!

On the bottom edge there is a microUSB port shifted from the center downwards and six cutouts to the left and right of it. Behind them are the microphone and the main speaker, respectively.

On top is a classic 3.5 mm headphone jack.

On the back of the case in the upper left corner there is a slightly protruding block with the main camera, an inscription with the characteristics of the cameras to the left of it, and a flash to the right. The glass that covers the camera and flash is slightly recessed into the frame. There is an additional microphone next to the unit.

A little lower is the round fingerprint scanner area.

Even lower is the manufacturer's logo and other service information.

Ergonomics

Using a smartphone is convenient. It has small dimensions - weight 150 grams, diagonal - 5.7″, plus rounded edges and corners.

In general, its dimensions are something between and. And if the latter was not very convenient to use with one hand, then Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 is quite comfortable.

The control buttons and fingerprint scanner are in the usual places.

Display Huawei Y6 Prime 2018

The smartphone has a 5.7-inch diagonal IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1440×720 pixels (HD+).

The low resolution is difficult to notice unless you look closely at the screen.

The colors are close to natural, the contrast is good. The display is bright enough for outdoor use, but without much excitement. Auto brightness adjustment generally works well, but not perfectly - sometimes you want to make the display a little brighter.

Viewing angles are not bad, as for an inexpensive smartphone, but with strong diagonal deviations there is a noticeable decrease and increase in contrast. This is not observed with linear ones. In principle, the screen is normal.

In the screen settings, as usual, you can adjust the color temperature of the screen and activate the eye protection mode. There is a function to automatically reduce screen resolution to save power consumption. But I don’t see much benefit in it.

Performance

The smartphone has an old and low-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. It consists of four Cortex-A53 cores and operates with a maximum clock frequency of 1.4 GHz. The graphics accelerator used is Adreno 308.

In synthetic tests, quite expectedly, it shows modest results.

In practice, the device copes well with everyday tasks. If a large number of applications are running, the animation of opening/minimizing applications slows down slightly. And programs don’t launch very quickly either. But if there are few applications in the background, there are no problems. You can’t really play heavy games on a smartphone, but simple time killers work well.

In general, the speed of the smartphone can be called normal, as for this class of devices.

The amount of installed RAM is 3 GB, and permanent memory is 32 GB. Of these 32 GB of storage, 24.79 GB are available to the user. The memory can be expanded by installing a microSD card up to 256 GB and there is no need to sacrifice a second SIM card.

Cameras Huawei Y6 Prime 2018

The main camera module of the smartphone has a resolution of 13 megapixels and an f/2.2 aperture.

There is nothing new in terms of the quality of the resulting images. With enough light, photos are obtained with normal detail and color rendition, and autofocus is fast. When weak, colors and details are noticeably lost. The dynamic range is average and activating HDR does not help the situation much.

The video is also very average. The maximum video resolution is Full HD (1920×1080), there is no electronic stabilization.

The front camera has a resolution 8 MP (f/2.0). Overall it shoots well, but you shouldn’t expect anything special from it.

The camera application is typical for the manufacturer's smartphones. By swiping to the right of the shooting screen, you can see the available shooting modes, and by swiping to the left, you can see advanced camera settings.

In the modes, I discovered the “Focus” function (which, by the way, was not present in), which theoretically allows you to change the focus point after the picture has been taken.

Usually, we have seen this feature in smartphones with a dual main camera, and I was wondering how this happens in the Huawei Y6 Prime 2018, where there is only one main camera module. But in practice, the focus point does not change at all. So what's the point of adding it then? Maybe something will change with a firmware update, but so far it’s not working.

Unlock methods

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 can be unlocked using two methods - fingerprint scanner and facial recognition. Just in case, let me remind you once again that there is no fingerprint scanner in the Huawei Y6 2018 smartphone (that is, without the Prime prefix).

The scanner works in the usual Huawei manner - very quickly and accurately.

As always, it can also perform various actions: control the camera release, answer a call, turn off the alarm, open the notification panel and scroll through photos in the gallery by swiping across the scanner area.

As for unlocking with facial recognition, here it works a little... not that worse, but slower than in the same . But even so, it can be easily used.

The setup process is traditionally fast. Only one person is added.

There are two methods to choose from to carry out the unlocking process: activate the screen and, after identifying the face, swipe across the screen, or immediately go to the desktop or open application. The smart notifications function also remains, where the content of the notification on the lock screen will be hidden and displayed in full only if the smartphone recognizes the owner.

Autonomy

The smartphone has a 3000 mAh battery. In general, Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 lives approximately the same as its more than once mentioned brothers.

When using a predominantly 4G connection, the active screen time was slightly more than 4.5 hours. And with a constant Wi-Fi connection, the screen was active for more than 6 hours, which is quite good for a 3000 mAh battery.

In other words, the battery will last for a day of active work; with a more gentle operating mode, you can count on one and a half days. Although all this depends, of course, on the operating scenario of a particular user.

Sound and communications

In Huawei Y6 Prime 2018, the sound component was approached with special attention. At least according to .

In fact, we have the following. There are no questions about the conversational speaker at all, the interlocutor can be heard well. The sound from the main speaker, as stated, is very loud and surprisingly clear.

The sound in headphones is not bad. There is an equalizer and other audio effects.

Contents of delivery

The phone comes in a traditional Huawei small cardboard box with minimalist prints. The device is packaged in shipping film and turned with the front panel facing the user.

Under it there is a modest 1A power adapter, a micro-USB cable, a set of instructions and guides, a protective film, a silicone case and a clip for removing the hybrid SIM card tray.

Design

Visually, the Y6 Prime can hardly be called unique in all respects: from time to time the thought “I’ve seen this somewhere before” arises. We are looking at a phone that is simply pleasing to the eye and has no frills.

The front panel is almost entirely occupied by an impressively sized 5.7" display, which is additionally covered with tempered glass with a 2.5D effect. Next to the camera there is a place for face scanning sensors. It is noteworthy that previously this technology was the province of only flagship phones.

At the back there is a nice camera module with LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. The arrangement of mechanical control buttons and ports is as familiar as possible and does not raise any complaints.

In terms of color solutions, there are 3 options available: black, blue and gold.

Display

The 5.7" diagonal screen is built on an IPS matrix and has a resolution of 1440x720, which corresponds to the HD+ standard. The pixel density is stated at 283 ppi, and this completely eliminates any graininess of the picture even when examining the smallest objects on the display.

The panel was initially calibrated for neutral colors and shades, and therefore you will not be able to notice excessively warm or cold changes. Although software display settings are also provided.

Battery

The device is equipped with a non-removable 3000 mAh battery, which can provide up to 2 days of autonomy with a balanced mode of use.

The fly in the ointment is that the included power supply is not the most powerful, only 1A. It will take about 2 hours to fully charge the device’s battery. But the presence of the OTG function will please many.

Performance

The heart of the Y6 Prime is the 4-core Snapdragon 425 chipset with an operating frequency of up to 1.4 GHz. It is paired with the Adreno 308 graphics subsystem. Such a combination is not enough stars from the sky, but if you do not initially plan to run complex modern games on the device, then the performance will be simply amazing. The interface is easy and perfectly optimized for this hardware.

The user will also have 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, expandable with microSD cards. In the latter case, you will have to sacrifice the second phone number, since the card tray is a hybrid one.

Among the additional features, it is also worth noting support for the NFC module, which is a huge rarity for state employees.

Camera

The phone has 2 cameras. The main 13 megapixel module with automatic focusing and LED flash copes with its tasks perfectly even in low light conditions. The level of photography is comparable to products costing $200 or more, which indicates a high quality of photography. Additionally, the sensor can shoot FullHD video at 30 fps.

Software platform

The phone will run on the latest version of Android 8.0, complemented by the proprietary EMUI 8 interface. The shell is tailored for the speed and smoothness of rendering menus and applications, and therefore you will never feel a lack of RAM. Additionally, proprietary algorithms are used that automatically remove excess garbage from the cache, which makes the device fast even after several months of regular use.

The 8 MP front camera with fixed focus is ideal for selfies thanks to software technology for hiding skin imperfections and a matte flash. It seems like a small thing, but the result is magnificent.
