How to find a tablet if it doesn't have a SIM card. How to find a lost android

We are absolutely sure that our mobile friend will always be nearby. What could happen? As harsh reality shows, anything can happen. The easiest way to lose a device is a simple loss at a picnic. A more negative option is theft. How to find a lost/forgotten phone? How to minimize your losses if your phone is stolen? This is exactly what this article is dedicated to.

First steps in case of loss

The first thing you need to do when you discover that your phone is missing is to try to calm down and restore the chain of events. When was the last time you used your phone? Who did you last call? Where was it? Most often, smartphones are forgotten in cafes, clubs, taxis and... in handbags! Those. The phone may not have even left your home, but is simply littered with other things or fell behind the sofa, and the sound on it may be turned off. Therefore, the traditional “call” method will not work in this case. What to do in this case?

iPhone or other Apple mobile device

Apple has a Find My iPhone service that helps you find your device and force it to turn on the ringtone at full volume, even if the device is on silent. To do this, go to the icloud.com page from your tablet or computer, log in and select “Find iPhone.” The window that appears will show the location of your phone on the map and the commands available to it:

  • Playing sound will be performed at full volume regardless of whether silent mode is activated or not. This will allow you to find your phone in your bag, behind the sofa or in the grass.
  • Switching the phone to “sales mode”. Allows you to remotely set a PIN code on your phone and display a message about the loss for the finder and a request to call the specified number. After this, you can only access the device using a PIN code.
  • Deleting data from the device. This is a last resort if there is confidential data on the phone.

But what settings must be made on the phone itself for this feature to be available.

Android smartphone

Literally at the end of August 2013 Google launched a similar service Android Device Manager. The service allows you to “call back” to the device. In addition, you can get remote control over your phone/tablet. For now, only deleting data from a smartphone is available among such functions. For everything else, you will need a special application, which is not ready at the time of writing.

Your mobile device must be configured as follows.

And when a notification from the service arrives, you need to make two more settings.

Actions in case of theft

Measures to find a phone

If, nevertheless, the device could not be found and there are clear signs of theft, then you will need to contact law enforcement agencies. Don't forget to prepare everything you need for your visit to the local police officer! You will need a list of recent calls from and to your phone, which can be ordered on the mobile operator’s website. You will also need to provide documents on your phone.

Preventing even greater losses

A modern smartphone can store a lot of important and confidential information, which can also be very personal. But even more of this data is in the services you registered with. If you are almost 100% sure of theft, then block the SIM card. And at any hint of theft, change the password in your Google account, in all social networks, mail and other sites and services. This way, attackers will not be able to obtain confidential information.

Remember if you stored card numbers or PIN codes for them in the password manager application on your phone. If yes, then change the PIN code on the card. This can be done at any terminal of your bank. This service is not expensive at all, but will save you a lot of nerves and money. As a last resort, you can block the card itself and get a new one from the bank.

Try to negotiate with the person who found the phone

I always return phones that I find. Many of my friends do this. However, with modern smartphones, there can be a catch. Owners block them with graphic keys and PIN codes. Now you can’t easily call the owner anymore.

Usually the problem is solved if you call your phone yourself. You can receive a call without any problems; no blocking will interfere with this. But you won’t call for three or four days... But a week can pass between the loss of the phone and its discovery. And if the finder is unable to contact you, then you risk receiving an announcement like this about the find.

To prevent this from happening, take the trouble to provide your phone (if it's not an iPhone) with a sticker with your email or second phone. It can be tucked under the battery or placed in a visible place. There is also an online service where you can make an ad with the promise of a reward. LoSToleN is one such service.

According to statistics, the number of thefts of iPhone smartphones has dropped sharply almost all over the world after Apple launched a service called Activation Lock. With its help, any lost or stolen iOS gadget can be remotely blocked and its movement tracked.

The exception is in very disadvantaged countries, where smartphones are stolen in order to disassemble them into spare parts and sell them separately. However, most often thieves, seeing that the device is locked, simply leave it somewhere. For example, they give it to sellers or security guards in stores with the words: “We found it in the fitting room, we don’t know whose.”

A similar function soon appeared in smartphones and tablets based on Android. If the device is protected with a password previously set by the owner, then the thief will not be able to do anything with the loot - neither erase the data, nor use the gadget, much less sell it (if, of course, the buyer understands the topic at least a little).

Protecting iPhone and iPad

First of all, you need to set a password to unlock. Open the settings menu, go to the "Password" section and click the "Enable Password" button. The system will ask you to enter your password twice. Try not to use obvious combinations of numbers like “1111”, “2222”, “0000”, “1234” and so on - a thief, if he is not a fool, will start entering them first.

After six unsuccessful attempts to enter the password, the device will be locked for a minute. If you continue to attempt the selection, the iPhone or iPad will be completely disabled, and you will need to restore access to it through lengthy manipulations. Which a thief, of course, cannot produce.

Now imagine that you have lost your smartphone or tablet. The best solution would be to block it. To do this, find a computer with Internet access, open a browser and type the address www.icloud.com. On the page that opens, enter your Apple ID login and password (remembering them is very useful). After the menu opens, select the "Find iPhone" icon and click on it.

If geolocation services are enabled on your phone or tablet, its location will be displayed on the map that opens. By clicking on the green icon, you will see a menu in which there is a “Lost Mode” item. Once you select it, you can specify a phone number that those who find it can call back, and enter a message that will be displayed on the screen as long as this mode is in effect.

By the way, if you forgot to set an unlock password, you can do it here. After this, the thief will no longer be able to do anything with your iPhone or iPad.

Protecting Android

As with the iPhone, you first need to create an unlock password. This is done in the settings menu, but each manufacturer has a password setting option in different sections. For example, for Samsung you need to find the “Lock Screen” menu, and then enter the password twice. You will need to enter it every time you need to use your smartphone. Not very convenient, but reliable.

In the "Security" menu on Samsung phones there is a subsection "Device Administrators". Once logged in, check the box next to “Android Remote Control”. Now a thief will not be able to use your smartphone - unless, of course, the password is so simple that it can be guessed on the second try. After five unsuccessful attempts to enter the password, the device is locked for 30 seconds.

In case of loss or theft, you will need any computer connected to the Internet. After opening the browser, type the address play.google.com, enter your email address and password, and then in the window that opens, click on the picture with the image of a gear. In the menu that appears, select "Android Remote Control".

If your device is not turned off and is connected to the Internet, then its location will be visible on the map that opens in the browser. To block it, click on the "Block" button. After this, a window will appear in which you need to enter a new unlock password - even if an attacker guesses the previously set one, this trick will not work with the new password.

In the same window, you can type a message that will be constantly displayed on the smartphone screen, and a telephone number for contact.

Next to the "Block" button there is also a "Clear" button. Clicking on it will return the smartphone to factory settings, deleting all existing information. So it should be used as a last resort, when it is clear that the device cannot be found.

Recently, more and more users have been asking the question: is it possible to somehow find a tablet based on Android OS if the device is already lost? How should you properly configure your device in advance, so that in the event of further loss, finding it can be simplified? In fact, there are some important rules to consider here; Following the instructions, the user can easily find his electronic gadget.

A tablet was stolen without special programs

If the user has not made any special settings for his gadget in advance, then if lost, the chances of finding the device are reduced. You can try to find your lost device through a service from Google, which was created specifically for finding stolen Android devices. This service is called “Android Device Manager”, it can be launched through any browser and through any device, including a PC, tablet, smartphone, etc. You need to first of all select the tablet you are looking for from the list and then press round icon with four lines located in the upper right corner.

Click on the search start icon

Prerequisites for the search to work

In order for the search to work, you need an activated GPS module or the Internet. If you have lost your tablet in your apartment and cannot find it, use the “Ring” function. The device will beep loudly. You can also delete all data from memory if the tablet falls into the hands of an attacker.

Performing Preset Settings

To make your tablet easier to find, it is recommended that you set it up in advance. The first thing you need to do is install Avast! Mobile Security". This antivirus program helps protect your tablet. When you install the antivirus, you will need to go to settings and check the box next to “PIN protection”. Enter your PIN there.

The process of finding a tablet

Go to avast.com, log in, open “My devices” => “View data”. Search for: “Select a team.” In this column, do the following:

“Call”: this feature involves making a discreet call from a stolen Android device. This way, you can listen to what is happening around you, for example, whether the tablet is in the house or on the street. All this will also become useful when the police are involved. For example, first, using “Device Manager,” you can find out the house where a thief lives, and then watch him near the entrance and use the microphone and the “Call” function to make sure that the person who stole the tablet came out of the entrance. You can say something loudly, cough, etc. Combining several functions will increase the likelihood of your device being found.

When you click “Lost”, the tablet will be locked and the ability to turn off will be eliminated. If you turn on the alarm, the siren will howl until the battery runs out.

It is important to set up the tablet in advance: this increases the likelihood of finding it!

If you did not have time to install any programs and your tablet was stolen, then your only option is the Android Device Manager service.

Finding a lost device

I’ll look at a pressing question today: how to find a lost Android phone, and in very cool and cool ways.

All smartphones work via Android or iOS. The iOS protection system is known to everyone and is carried out using a special program that allows you to track and find your phone. But what should Android owners do? Is there protection here and is it possible to find a lost phone? Let's figure it out further.

How to find a lost android phone when the phone is lost

Unfortunately, situations often occur when a phone is stolen or lost, and the question arises of how to find a lost Android phone. Many of you will immediately go to the nearest police station with a statement, but at the same time you know that the possibility of a positive result is minimal.

Now I will tell you about reliable and effective ways to find a smartphone, rather than contacting the authorities. In order for you to be able to find a smartphone and track its location, complex actions are not required. However, you must have a Google account. If your data is not entered into the phone, you will not be able to find it.

You need to independently activate the “Remote control” item, in other words, set all the parameters. To do this, go to “My location” in the smartphone settings and check the “Allow tracking coordinates” box.

As you can see, everything is easy and simple. Google takes the issue of protecting personal information very seriously, so by checking this box, your smartphone will always be connected in case of loss.

How to search via computer

There is an Android Device Manager service specifically for searching through a computer, but if the gadget is turned off or all settings have been reset, then the capabilities are not so functional. However, no one claimed that thieves would be masters of this business, did they? To search for a device using this method, you must do the following on your computer:

  • Follow the special remote control link https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager.
  • Enter your username and password, and then log into your account. If you don’t have an account yet, be sure to create one, as it is very useful and necessary (after creation, also log into your account via your smartphone).
  • Then everything happens automatically, and you will see a window with the following information.

As you can see in the example, here you can remotely block your smartphone through your computer by pressing the appropriate button. You can also make a call or clear all data from the device’s memory.

If your phone is lost at home

Due to forgetfulness or his own absent-mindedness, a person can easily lose his phone at home. In this case, you can call yourself using this program via the Internet.

Your phone will ring within a few minutes, and this is completely independent of the set mode. This way, even when on silent, the phone will ring loudly and you can easily find it.

Send a message to a lost or stolen phone

If you have lost a gadget, and the person who found it wants to return it to the owner, because even in our time there are responsible people among us, then this can be contributed to. You can send a message to the number that will appear on the screen of your lost smartphone. We use the same service and the “Configure data blocking and deletion” button.

In the window that appears, you can do the following:

  • Enter a password with which you can lock the device.
  • Write a message, after reading which the person will return the mobile phone.

If it is not possible to return the gadget, then it is recommended to protect your personal data. To do this, click the “Clear” button. In this case, everything will be deleted and the phone will go to standard factory settings.

Additional programs

In addition to remote access, there are many other programs with similar functionality. The best of them is Lost Android. It is installed on the phone in the same way as other programs, that is, using the Play Market.

Helpful tip: after installation, the program will appear as Personal Notes with the appearance of a regular notebook. This is done so that thieves do not suspect anything. So don't worry if you don't find this program as recorded in the Market.

After running this program, give it administrator rights. To do this, press the appropriate button. How to do this can be seen from the screenshot below.

Then go to the official website of the application and log in again through Google. Enter your username and password, and then log into your account. All available functions are listed there.

These two methods I listed, through Google and the program, allow you to find even a turned off smartphone. This is achieved by the fact that Google services record the moment when the device was last turned on, and, accordingly, the location.

Find a phone by imei (via satellite) and by SIM card (by mobile phone number)

Here I hasten to disappoint, none of these methods will give results even through a computer using a phone number. Only law enforcement agencies, and even then the most advanced ones, can track the imei number via a computer. Those in the provinces may not rely on this method.

Of course, through a computer using a SIM card, you can determine extremely vague data like “Your phone is located in the city of Ivanovo.” Modern search services will not provide correct and accurate information; only the police have such technologies.

By phone number, also unlikely. Because as soon as they find the phone and want to keep it, they immediately throw away the SIM card, which makes tracking more difficult. You can’t even find it through your computer if it’s turned on (phone), mobile operators don’t bother themselves with such actions, although they are obliged to.

Do not waste time on these methods, but more about them below, at the end of the article.

Protection with avast! Anti-Theft for Android

In case of loss, you can pre-set your phone. To do this, I found a very interesting program that caught my attention. Here's what to do:

  • Download avast antivirus! Mobile Security and open it.
  • Go to the settings menu and check the “PIN code protection” and “Deletion protection” checkboxes. If a person detects an antivirus, he will not be able to get rid of it until he enters the PIN code.
  • Then create an avast account.
  • Go to the official antivirus service and click Create Account Now, set your email and enter your password.

From now on, your phone is protected.

Setting up the avast app! Anti-Theft in the gadget

The advanced settings menu in this program provides the following functions:

  1. Protective, that is, what needs to be done to the phone if it is lost. You can lock the gadget, set an alarm, block access to settings, and notify about low battery charge.
  2. Blocking text, information deletion and GPS tracking. Here you can enter text that will be displayed on the phone screen. Your device is now completely protected.

Last method

If the previous methods did not produce results for one reason or another, for example, you forgot the login and password for your Google account or did not create an account at all, then there is one more, as they say, as a last resort.

It is impossible to find your smartphone using your phone number. But you, as a victim, can come to the police station, write a statement and attach evidence that this is really your phone. Among them are the following:

  • Warranty card.
  • Purchase receipt.
  • Gadget box.
  • IMEI code.

Advice for those who have not yet lost their phone: be sure to write down your IMEI code. You can find it out using the command *#06#.

Based on the previous text, finding a phone by imei address is not very easy, more precisely, it is 0.5%, as statistics show, and less every year. But if you decide to go with this method, then I don’t envy you, it’s very difficult, the only worthwhile means is the police.

Finally

That's all, dear friends! I have listed the most reliable methods for finding a stolen phone. In conclusion, I want to give two main and useful tips:

  1. If possible, turn on the Internet on your smartphone to access data in case of loss.
  2. Set a screen lock. This is done like this: security - encrypt the device - set the lock type - password or pattern.

I hope my advice will be useful to you and you will find the answer in the article to the question of how to find a lost Android phone, although it is better not to encounter this situation at all. Subscribe to my blog, leave comments and share the link on social networks.

You always feel sorry for a lost or stolen item, regardless of its value. It’s all the more disappointing when your favorite mobile device disappears. Is it possible to find it? This possibility exists. But first you need to make sure that it was really stolen. Maybe he just got lost in the apartment. How to find a tablet? Recently, developers have offered various services that will help the user in his search. Let's look at some of them.

Manufacturers of Android devices have provided for the possibility of loss or theft of their products

Android Device Manager

This is a free service from Google. To use it:

  • Log in to your Google+ account, if not already done;
  • Go to GooglePlay, download and install the free Android Device Manager application on your tablet. This program works on everything starting from 2.2;
  • You must attach your account to this application. This is not difficult to do - just answer the system’s questions;
  • Now, when logging into an account, the user has access to a complete list of previously attached mobile devices (their number is not limited).

Now let's look at how to find a lost tablet using this service. To do this, you need to launch and log into your account using the guest login provided specifically for such a case.

If this is not possible, you should go to the application website from any device. Next, use the remote control function to start playing the sound file. A lost tablet will play the file for 5 minutes at high volume. This time is quite enough to find the device if it is lost somewhere in the apartment.

If the loss occurred somewhere else, the sound signal will attract the attention of people nearby. They can return the find to the owner, which will be greatly facilitated by the meaningful content of a sound file or a text message displayed on the screen.

Android Device Manager app review:

If the tablet was stolen, this method will not lead to the desired result. You can try using others:

  • Location function. With its help, you can display the location where the device is currently located, provided that the GPS function is turned on or the Internet is connected. Otherwise, the last location where one of these conditions was met will be shown.
  • If you couldn’t find and return the tablet, you can at least make it more difficult for an attacker to use it. Among the options are setting a password to unlock the screen (if this has not been done previously) and erasing all information. If the device is currently unavailable, the function will automatically start when the connection first appears.

Avast Free Antivirus

They also offer a set of useful functions that help if you lose your mobile device. One of the leaders among the free representatives of this family is Avast Free Antivirus. Let's look at how to find a stolen tablet using this program.

Czech application developers have provided the user with the opportunity to specify the actions that should be performed when changing the SIM card. Among them:

  • ban ;
  • blocking the device by setting a PIN code;
  • complete removal of information;
  • sending a message with the coordinates of the current location and new SIM card number to the specified mailbox or phone.

True, all this is only relevant with 3G. You can also tell the program what to do if the device is stolen or lost. If the user has an account on the program’s website, all they need to do is log in and change the status of their tablet to “lost”. In this case, the specified will be executed, including blocking access to the memory card.

Avira Antivirus

This is another common antivirus that will help you find your lost tablet. German developers have provided the Avira Mobile Security service with the following functionality:

  • blocking that restricts access to the missing device;
  • cleaning, which can be used to delete all information;
  • detection, which serves to determine the coordinates of the device;
  • a signal that allows you to find the tablet by loud sound;
  • blacklist that blocks calls and SMS messages.
