The best budget smartphones with a good camera. Rating of the best budget camera phones (smartphone with a good camera) Affordable smartphone with a good camera review

When choosing a budget smartphone with a good camera, the only thing you need to pay attention to is examples of real pictures. Since neither the camera resolution, nor the aperture of the optics, nor the presence of various software enhancers allow us to judge the photographic capabilities of a particular gadget.

We have prepared for you a rating of smartphones with the best cameras in the price range from 5 to 20 thousand rubles. This selection is relevant at the beginning of 2017, but it contains many not-so-recent smartphones released in 15-16. All of them are still on sale, have competitive technical characteristics, and at the same time shoot much better than modern state-of-the-art cameras.

Leagoo M8

M8 is one of the few ultra-budget Chinese products whose camera does not cause an oppressive feeling of despondency. The cost of the M8 is 4.5 thousand rubles, for this money you should not expect revelations, but given the price, this gadget is not bad not only in terms of the camera, but also in other characteristics - 5.7'' screen, 16/2 GB of memory, 3500 mAh battery, dedicated DAC and high-quality multimedia speaker.

Photos are clickable and open in original size when clicked.

The Leagoo M8 produces quite passable images with good detail, sharpness and pleasant colors. Disadvantages: weak dynamic range, thoughtful camera, and slow autofocus. In general, there are a lot of compromises, and you have to try hard to take a good photo. The front camera here is quite good, it is a full 8 MP and not interpolated 3 or 5, like most Chinese. But the M8 records video (FHD/30fps) frankly poorly; one of the serious shortcomings is also the lack of support for LTE networks.

Honor 5A

Also in the ultra-budget segment, Honor 5A from Huawei deserves attention. Its price is already 8 thousand, but the picture quality of the 5A is much better, at the level of smartphones for 13-15 thousand. The main module at 5M has an aperture of f/2.0 and a focal length of 27 mm. During the day, in good lighting, the shots come out very decent, and I am pleased with the adequate operation of the automation - in the pull-out-point-shoot mode, no problems arise.

The front camera 5A takes better pictures than the main cameras of most cheap Chinese cameras; an additional plus is the presence of a flash on the selfie camera. The device is powered by the MT6735P chipset + 16/2 GB of expandable memory, which is rather weak for gaming, but in everyday use everything is fast and stable. The 5’’ HD IPS screen is also not bad, the only disappointments are the lack of oleophobic coating and a weak 2200 mAh battery.

LeEco Cool1

Cool1 is an excellent, balanced smartphone with a good camera, a capacious battery and productive hardware. It uses a dual 13+13 MP module, which allows you to get very decent photos during the day, but, like most Chinese, it fails when shooting in poor lighting. In fact, the second camera is needed only to be able to simulate bokeh in software - blurring the background, which in practice does not always work correctly.

The smartphone runs on the Snapdragon 652 chipset, has 32/3 GB of memory, a 5.5-inch FHD screen and a 4060 mAh battery. It has no significant drawbacks; the only downside is the unaesthetic black frame around the screen. By the way, Cool1 can record video in 4K resolution. Price – from 10 thousand rubles.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X / Xiaomi Mi4c

The main reason for the weak popularity of the regular version of Redmi Note 4 was the weak processor, which is why the old RN3P sold much better than its updated version. But in the recently released modification, which received the Snapdragon 625 chipset, the Note 4X lost all its weaknesses.

Note 4x is a beautiful smartphone for 15 thousand in a metal case with a 5.5’’ Full HD screen, a large amount of 64/4GB memory and a thick 4100 mAh battery. The main 4X camera is represented by a Sony IMX258 sensor with a pixel size of 1.12 nm and f/2.0 aperture. The front camera is normal – 5 MP, f/2.0.

For those who want to get comparable photo quality at a lower price, we recommend paying attention to the Xiaomi Mi4c. It’s already difficult to find it on sale here, but if you order from China, you can spend 7.5-8 thousand rubles. For that kind of money, the Mi4C has no alternative characteristics - it has the same camera module as the Note 4X, a Snapdragon 808 processor, a 5’’ FHD IPS screen, a 3000 mAh battery and 16/2 GB of memory. In general, Mi4C is cheap and cheerful. The device has only one critical disadvantage - the lack of a slot for a flash drive.

LG G4

G4 is the flagship of the last generation from LG, which, 2 years after the start of production, remains one of the best devices on the market in terms of photo quality. The new G4 can be purchased in Russian online stores for 16 thousand rubles. We recommend buying a smartphone with a warranty, since this model is known for problems with the motherboard bootloop. But if you manage to pick up a problem-free smartphone, you won’t regret it.

The photos taken on the LG G4 speak for themselves, and the device's characteristics remain more than decent today. The smartphone is equipped with a gorgeous 5.5’’ IPD screen with 2K resolution, a Snapdragon 808 processor + 32/3 GB of memory (there is a slot for a flash drive up to 128 GB) and a removable 3000 mAh battery. The chic design with a leather back cover is the icing on the cake.

Nexus 5X

The story with the Nexus 5X is the same as with the LG G4. The smartphone is already more than two years old, it is still on sale, and in terms of photo quality, none of the modern devices in the mid-price category has come close to it. The 5X can be called an ideal smartphone for automatic shooting; in the pull-out mode, it produces better images than most smartphones with manual settings. And advanced amateur photographers will have something to do, since the 5X supports the RAW format and shoots video in 4K resolution.

In terms of hardware, the 5X can be classified as a modern mid-budget segment - 5.2’’ FHD IPS screen, Snapdragon 808 chipset, 32/2 GB of memory, 2700 mAh battery. However, despite its not the most advanced characteristics, in terms of smooth operation and performance, thanks to software support from Google, Nexus will give odds to many Chinese flagships. Well, the latest version of Android on board always speaks in favor of this gadget. Price tag – from 17 thousand rubles.

Xiaomi Mi5

Flagship smartphones from Xiaomi are cheaper than devices with similar characteristics at the time of release, and six months to a year after the start of sales, their price becomes very attractive. What other smartphone with close to top-end specifications and a Snapdragon 820 can you buy for 14-15 thousand rubles?

Xiaomi Mi5 takes very good photos. It is equipped with a Sony IMX298 sensor (size 1/2.8", pixel - 1.12, aperture f/2.0, optical stabilization), which allows you to take decent pictures not only during the day, but also indoors and in low light. Photos are detailed, with excellent sharpness across the entire frame. The only things I can complain about are the not-so-best automation and the clumsy HDR mode, but for the money the Mi5 has one of the best cameras on the market. In addition, the smartphone supports Camera2 Api, which makes it possible to shoot in RAW, which provides solid opportunities for post-processing images.

Honor 6X

The 6X is a high-quality smartphone, into which they not only stuffed a good camera module from SONY, but also paid enough attention to the software part. If you don't want to buy the Nexus 5X due to obsolescence, but still need a smartphone for point-and-shoot photography, the Honor 6X would be an excellent choice. He takes excellent photographs on automatic, making almost no mistakes with exposure, white balance and focusing.

Honor 6X boasts a dual camera, the main module is Sony IMX386, paired with an auxiliary 2MP sensor. As in the case of the previously reviewed Cool1, the second camera is needed for software background blur, which is implemented much better here than in LeEco.

The hardware of the 6X is quite simple - Kirin 655 chipset, 32/3 GB of memory + MicroSD, 5.5’’ FHD IPS screen, 3340 mAh battery, but the cool camera fully justifies the 17 thousand price tag.

Meizu MX6

Meizu MX6 is a controversial smartphone. In Russia they ask for about 20 thousand rubles (although, if you work hard, you can find a price tag of 16 thousand), which is a bit expensive considering the MX6’s not the most productive hardware. But at a price of 13-14 thousand, for which you can order a smartphone from China, this is a very good option.

The MX6 camera is equipped with a 12 MP Sony IMX386 sensor similar to the Honor 6X with a pixel size of 1.25 micron, and it takes really good pictures. It’s pointless to find fault with the quality of pictures taken during the day, but at night, due to the lack of optical stabilization, the MX6 sags somewhat. But despite this, the MX6 is one of the few Chinese smartphones that can compete with top-end devices from A-brands in terms of photographic capabilities. In addition, it is equipped with a chic screen, has a high-quality metal body and pleases with performance thanks to the perfectly optimized Flyme shell. But there are some drawbacks, including the lack of a memory card slot with a modest built-in 32 GB and mediocre battery life.

Samsung A5 2016

A5 in the 2016 version can now be found in stores for 18-19 thousand rubles, and for this money it is one of the most balanced smartphones from A-brands. For high-quality photos, it has everything - a 13 MP camera module with f/1.9 aperture, hybrid autofocus and optical stabilization, thanks to which good pictures are obtained not only during the day, but also at night.

There is only one significant drawback - for such a price I would like to be able to record 4K video, but Samsung traditionally reserves this function for its flagships. In all other respects, the smartphone is great - 5.2 FHD Super AMOLED screen, Exynos 7580 chipset and 16/2 GB of memory expandable with cards up to 12 GB, 2900 mAh battery. The characteristics are not amazing on paper, but they are quite enough for comfortable use of the smartphone, and when using the A5 every day, you can feel that same “quality”, manifested in the smallest details.

Nubia Z11 Mini S

Z11 Mini S is a smaller version of the flagship Z11 smartphone, which ZTE produces under the premium Nubia brand. You can’t find fault with this device: Snapdragon 625, 64/4 GB of memory, 5.5’’ FHD IPS screen, 3000 mAh battery - all this can be obtained for 15-20 thousand rubles, depending on the place of purchase. The camera here is amazing. The smartphone is equipped with a 23MP Sony IMX318 (f/2.0) module, which takes stunning (especially in terms of detail) pictures during the day.

In addition, the Z11 Mini S records video in 4K resolution and does it very cool - an example is below.

In terms of photographic capabilities and other characteristics, this smartphone has very few competitors, except that the Xiaomi Mi5 can compare with the Z11 Mini S in terms of price/functionality, but it still takes worse photographs. We recommend for purchase.

Mobile photography has changed the world. Now everyone is a photographer, and you don’t have to have a bunch of expensive equipment to do it. Comparing photos from three years ago with today, you are amazed at how quickly cameras in smartphones are developing.

In this article I collected the best smartphones of 2017 for photography.

9. Honor 9

You have two cameras at your disposal. The first is color, with a resolution of 12 megapixels and an f/2.2 aperture. The second is 20 megapixel monochrome with a similar aperture. According to the creators' idea, the black-and-white camera takes a photo with an expanded dynamic range and detail, after which colors from the second module are added to the photo.

In good lighting, the smartphone produces sharp images with the correct white balance. Laser autofocus is fast and there is a 2x optical zoom without loss of quality. At night the result is not so good - the picture becomes noisy and blurry.

Following the trends, Honor 9 can shoot with the bokeh effect. The background is blurred well, but far from perfect. Small details often get washed out, but more expensive smartphones also suffer from this.

Wide-angle front camera: 8 megapixels with f/2.0 aperture. The quality of the pictures is excellent, but again only during the day. I would like a larger aperture, but for now, in low light, it’s better to forget about selfies.

Honor 9 is a cool mid-budget smartphone for those who want to get more for their money.

The camera is practically no different from the more expensive P10. The only thing missing is the fashionable Leica nameplate and optical stabilization.

8. Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Sony's flagship has only one camera with a 19 MP wide-angle lens and f/2.0 aperture. Optical stabilization was not delivered again, so we have to settle for digital stabilization.

The camera is fast and takes nice pictures during the day. The picture is rich and sharp, but the impression is spoiled by the clumsy operation of the machine. During the day, it can easily illuminate the sky; under artificial lighting, the white balance can be set incorrectly.

At night, autofocus behaves nervously and constantly tries to refocus. Photos in automatic mode turn out noisy and soapy.

To experience the true capabilities of the XZ Premium, shoot in manual mode. In this case, you can enable HDR, adjust exposure, shutter speed, focus and get flagship-level pictures. The downside is that it kills the beauty of mobile photography. Few will tinker with manual settings when they need to shoot quickly here and now.

Predictive shooting does not work in manual mode. The camera takes 1-3 frames before you even press the shutter. As a result, you will get 3-4 pictures from which you can choose the best one. The idea is interesting, but the smartphone does this automatically and when it deems it necessary.

The XZ Premium has a good 13 MP widescreen front camera. Suitable for joint selfies, and the result is decent in any lighting conditions.

And the main highlight is the world's first smartphone that shoots super slow-motion video at 960 fps. It looks impressive, but, in my opinion, it takes a couple of times to play around with. Videos weigh a lot, it’s hard to get a smooth picture without optical stabilization. Only pieces of 0.18 seconds are recorded, which are stretched into 6-second videos.

With all the advantages, only true fans of the brand will choose XZ Premium.

7. LG G6

LG G6 has two cameras, each 13 megapixels. The first - with an f/1.8 aperture - received phase autofocus and optical stabilization. The second is a wide-angle lens of 125 degrees and an aperture of f/2.4.

A wide angle for the second camera seems more useful than the notorious bokeh. It is perfect for shooting architecture, landscapes, and taking photos with friends. On other smartphones, you will have to take a panorama to do this, which is not always convenient.

But for an ultra-wide angle you have to pay with distortion (barrel effect). In addition, the second camera does not have autofocus and optical stabilization. Because of this, pictures often turn out out of focus.

The main camera takes good photos. Optical stabilization works as it should, no movement. The picture comes out clear, with correct color reproduction. The LG G6 enables HDR in auto mode by default. This allows you to preserve more detail in the light and dark areas of the frame.

The front camera has only 5 megapixels and an f/2.2 aperture. A strange decision for a flagship - the results are worse than many mid-budget smartphones. Even a wide-angle lens of 100 degrees does not help - the quality of the images leaves much to be desired.

The LG G6 is an interesting smartphone, but the camera is not its strong point. Therefore only 7th place.

6. Samsung Galaxy S8

The camera in the Galaxy S8 doesn't bring anything particularly new compared to its predecessor. But at the same time it remains one of the best on the market.

The smartphone has a single 12 megapixel module with optical stabilization and Dual Pixel technology for fast autofocus. The f/1.7 aperture allows you to take very cool photos in low light conditions. Night photos from top Samsung smartphones are standard.

However, don’t expect a realistic picture from the Galaxy S8 camera. It will be cool, juicy, but far from the gray reality. Camera algorithms aggressively distort the image to eliminate any imperfection. Whether this is good or bad is a matter of taste.

But what's really cool is the front camera. It has a resolution of 8 megapixels, intelligent autofocus and an f/1.7 aperture. Not all smartphones have such high-aperture optics, even in the main camera.

The result is stunning selfies at any time of the day and under any conditions. The lens has a fairly wide angle, so you can comfortably take pictures with a group.

Considering the price of the Galaxy S8 today, this is one of the best mobile cameras on the market.

4. iPhone 8 Plus

I used the plus version of the iPhone for three years because of its photo capabilities. There are no major changes in the iPhone 8 Plus compared to its predecessor. But the camera has gotten a little better in everything.

There are still two 12 megapixel modules. The first telephoto lens with ƒ/2.8 aperture. The second is wide-angle with an aperture of ƒ/1.8. Alas, the telephoto lens does not have optical stabilization, nor does it have a larger aperture. This is the prerogative of the iPhone X.

Changes in the iPhone 8 Plus affected the lens system and sensor matrix, and improved photo post-processing algorithms.

In fact, pictures taken with the figure eight are brighter, more contrasting and more saturated. The camera reproduces colors more accurately, and skin tones in portraits have become more realistic. In general, everything is good with white balance in the eight; in this regard, it has many competitors.

HDR performance has improved, it is now always in automatic mode. Previously, I had to constantly turn it on manually, which was sometimes infuriating.

Focus is more accurate and faster, resulting in sharper images. This is especially noticeable when enlarging the image.

In low light, the picture turns out to be more detailed, but in terms of quality and amount of noise it is inferior to the same HTC U11.

iPhone 8 Plus has new portrait lighting modes that don't just blur the background, but simulate different lighting patterns. It's a cool thing, but it doesn't work right now. For now, because this is not the final version yet and will work better over time.

The iPhone 8 Plus does regular portraits perfectly. The background blurs quite accurately and focuses on objects correctly. By the way, the lighting scheme can now be changed after you take a photo. So there is room for creativity.

And Live Photo also makes sense. You can now make a GIF from them or select the best frame. This is an analogue of burst shooting, which is useful for photographing moving objects.

The front camera has not changed compared to the 7 Plus. The same 7 megapixels with ƒ/2.2 aperture. The pictures come out normal, but in low light they are noisy. I would like the camera angle to be wider; the Galaxy S8 is more interesting in this regard.

What can I say, this is the most popular camera in the world, and deservedly so. The changes are not dramatic, but the pictures have become better.

3. Samsung Galaxy Note 8

A huge flagship from Samsung that left positive emotions.

The smartphone has two 12 megapixel cameras. The first module is wide-angle with an f/1.7 aperture. The second is a “telephoto” with an f/2.4 aperture. Both have optical stabilization, so even photos at 2x zoom are sharp.

The camera blurs the background beautifully, and the degree of blur can be adjusted both before and after releasing the shutter. Pictures are saved from both cameras.

The bokeh itself seemed to me not as natural as on the iPhone. But perhaps this will be improved in software.

In daylight, the photographs delight with excellent detail and vibrant colors. Yes, the excessive saturation has not gone away, but the photos are still cool. There is also oversharpening, it is especially noticeable in low light, when the noise begins to actively work.

Automatic HDR works well, both in artificial and natural light.

Night shots, as always, are at their best; few can compete with them. The picture is contrasty and sharp even when viewed from a computer.

The front camera of the Galaxy Note 8 has the same aperture as the main one - f/1.7, resolution 8 megapixels. There is autofocus, the quality of the images is top-notch, everything is at the level of the Galaxy S8.

Overall, I was pleased with the camera and did not find any obvious shortcomings. Only the huge size of the smartphone can repel, but that’s another story.

2. iPhone X

The main camera of the iPhone X is almost like the iPhone 8 Plus. Optical stabilization is now in both modules, and the telephoto aperture has been increased from f2.8 to f2.4. What does this give?

Photos are always sharp when zoomed in. Previously, the picture used to be blurred at 2x zoom. Especially if your little hands are shaking, which is no wonder in such cold weather. It has become easier to shoot in portrait mode. No movement, I focused and got a cool portrait.

Thanks to the increased aperture of the telephoto, portraits are not so dependent on lighting. The picture became less noisy even in the evening under artificial lighting. Ten retains more details, small elements look sharper.

In terms of color and dynamic range, the iPhone X produces similar results to the iPhone 8 Plus. It’s true that viewing photos is more interesting with the iPhone X - the OLED screen makes already bright photos more vibrant and rich.

Changes also affected the front camera. Selfies can now be taken with the background blurred thanks to the True Depth depth sensor. There are different studio lighting modes available, but the results are not always successful.

In my opinion, the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8 are about equal. The first one has better color reproduction and portrait mode. The second one performs well in night photography and selfies.

1. Google Pixel 2

The best mobile camera of 2017 is Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. They are identical.

The smartphones have one 12.2 megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture. Google decided that two modules were not needed for cool portraits. Background blur is achieved only with the help of software.

The background really blurs effectively, but certain conditions must be met. For example, get rid of small accessories like glasses, don’t shoot in windy weather with hair flying around. Otherwise the camera will erase them.

It is better to take close-up photographs. If you want to shoot from the waist up, you'll have to give up the bokeh. In this regard, the iPhone is less picky.

On the other hand, if done correctly, the photos turn out amazing. Oddly enough, the blur looks more natural than on the iPhone X. The main thing is that all this is the work of a neural network that is learning all the time. I think that in six months there will be fewer restrictions, and the quality of the pictures will be better.

The smartphones have optical stabilization and Dual Pixel phase detection autofocus. The camera has a wide dynamic range, and it doesn't matter whether you're shooting on a sunny day or at dusk. Autofocus is extremely fast, surpassing even that of Note 8 in speed.

Automation sets the correct white balance both outdoors and when visiting. The picture is juicy, bright, the colors are correct, without kinks.

The front camera is 8-megapixel and also takes excellent pictures. Portrait mode works here too, and no depth sensor is needed. The only thing is that they could have installed faster optics: the f/2.4 aperture is not enough in the evening.

As a result, Google managed to make a really cool smartphone for mobile photography. Although, to be honest, sometimes you have to strain to get a high-quality photo. This is especially true for portraits.

In this regard, I like the iPhone X better. Everything there is simple and clear, but the quality of the images is inferior, albeit slightly.

Camera phones are one of the main categories of mobile devices. Not everyone plays and not every user even listens to music on their phone. But sometimes everyone wants to take a photo of nature, a group of friends or a peacefully sleeping cat. In some cases, a camera is required to solve work processes, such as sending documents to a client or demonstrating a layout, painting or other project to a customer. If the user has his own blog and active profiles on social networks, then high-quality photographs are needed to fill them. And our rating of smartphones with the best cameras will help you choose a device to suit your individual needs.

The best inexpensive camera phones under 10,000-15,000 rubles

If you are counting on good, but not ideal, photo quality, and you don’t need powerful hardware and various functions that increase the cost of a smartphone, then you can buy a mobile phone that suits your needs for only 10-15 thousand rubles.

Yes, for this price, many brands offer excellent smartphones for taking photos. A potential hit in this segment is the recently introduced Redmi Note 7, which is selling out faster than hot cakes at a train station. However, it has not yet reached our editorial office, and we will not believe the manufacturer’s statements or other people’s opinions. However, there was still a place for a smartphone from Xiaomi in this category, and next to it were three smartphones from competitors.

1. Meizu M6s 32GB

The first on our list is a budget smartphone with a good camera – M6s from Meizu. This device costs only 9 thousand rubles, and for this amount you will receive:

  1. IPS screen with HD resolution and 2:1 aspect ratio;
  2. good 16 MP main camera (f/2.0 aperture);
  3. infrared port, allowing you to use the phone as a remote control;
  4. Samsung Exynos 7872 CPU and Mali-G71 graphics accelerator;
  5. 3 gigabytes of RAM and 32 GB of permanent memory.

Despite the low cost, the smartphone is housed in an aluminum case, available in 4 color options to choose from. But the Meizu M6s does not have the usual touch-mechanical button under the screen, which has a built-in fingerprint scanner, which is due to the elongated display. Now the fingerprint sensor is located in the power button.

Advantages:

  • durable metal case;
  • sound quality in speakers and headphones;
  • excellent communication capabilities;
  • stable operation of wireless modules;
  • convenient placement of the fingerprint scanner;
  • fast charging support;
  • fast hardware platform;
  • excellent price-quality ratio.

Flaws:

  • quality of protective glass;
  • takes photos well, but not videos;
  • A 3000 mAh battery is not enough for the selected hardware.

2. Sony Xperia XA1 Plus Dual 32GB

Attractive design, high-quality 5.5-inch Full HD display, excellent build quality and a 23 MP main camera – the Xperia XA1 Plus smartphone offers all this for just 13,500 rubles. To this it is also worth adding a lightning-fast fingerprint sensor, which, traditionally for the manufacturer, is located on the right side.

The XA1 Plus is not only an excellent camera phone (according to customer reviews), which pleases with excellent reliability for its price, but also one of the most affordable smartphones that has an NFC module.

The body of the camera phone is made of plastic, but its appearance and tactile sensations are so good that it is quite comparable to its metal competitors. The smartphone’s hardware platform is also quite good for its price, but it can’t always cope with games: Helio P20 CPU from MediaTek, as well as Mali-T880 graphics and 4 GB of RAM.

Advantages:

  • thanks to excellent optimization, the 3430 mAh battery lasts up to one and a half days;
  • you can pay for purchases via NFC;
  • excellent main (23 MP) camera;
  • high build quality;
  • good front camera with 8 MP resolution;
  • recognizable Sony brand design;
  • separate slots for two SIM cards and microSD.

Flaws:

  • quite heavy weight of 190 grams;
  • not suitable for demanding games.

3. Xiaomi Mi A2 4/64GB

Next up is a high-quality camera phone from Xiaomi for only 13,500 rubles. Mi A2 is the second generation of the manufacturer’s popular smartphone based on “pure” Android. The device pleases with a well-assembled aluminum body, available in several colors, and two main camera modules, which outperform even the cameras in more expensive competitors.

The hardware platform of the smartphone will also be enough for most users, because so far there is no game or application that would be beyond the capabilities of the Snapdragon 660 and Adreno 512 graphics. The RAM and ROM in the device are 4 and 64 GB, respectively, but the latter, unfortunately, cannot be expanded. But there is an infrared port that allows you to control home appliances.

Advantages:

  • dual main camera (12 and 20 MP);
  • presence of an infrared port;
  • productive “filling”;
  • work with 2 SIM cards;
  • availability of fast charging Quick Charge 3.0;
  • attractive price;
  • pure Android 8 without add-ons.

Flaws:

  • no 3.5 mm jack;
  • camera protruding from the body.

If you are not interested in phones from China, and the solution from Sony is slightly more than necessary, then in the ranking of the best smartphones with a good camera under 15 thousand rubles, the Galaxy A6 from the Samsung brand will be an excellent choice. It runs on an Exynos processor and a Mali graphics accelerator, and has 3 gigabytes of RAM.

The smartphone screen is made using AMOLED technology, and its resolution and diagonal are 1480x720 pixels and 5.6 inches, respectively (pixel density 294 ppi). A nice bonus for its price is the NFC module, which allows you to pay for purchases at the checkout using your phone. The device is powered by a 3000 mAh battery, sufficiently capacious for the selected hardware.

Advantages:

  • main camera 16 MP (f/1.7);
  • excellent front camera for selfies;
  • excellent functionality;
  • colorful AMOLED display;
  • balanced filling;
  • attractive price;
  • presence of an NFC module;
  • good sound.

Flaws:

  • low screen resolution;
  • significant overpayment for the brand;
  • no Always On, as on older models.

The best smartphones with a good camera 20,000-30,000 rubles

Don't want to spend a lot of money, but the capabilities of budget smartphones do not fully meet your needs? Then it is enough to double the costs so that the purchased smartphone can delight you with its functionality in any conditions. Each of the four phones described below can take beautiful photos, handle demanding applications with ease, and demonstrate excellent performance in modern games. Moreover, all this is offered at a reasonable price that suits most buyers.

Last year, Samsung released quite a lot of phones as part of its A-series. Most of them belong to the segment from 20 to 30 thousand, so it was difficult for us to choose a single model for the TOP. After much thought, we decided that the most balanced among all the new products is the Galaxy A7 smartphone with a very good camera and a powerful battery. With an average price of 22,000, the device offers:

  1. Exinos 7885 processor (2 x 2.2 GHz and 6 x 1.6 GHz);
  2. Mali-G71 graphics accelerator;
  3. 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM;
  4. 64 gigabytes of storage.

The main camera of the Galaxy A7 is triple, and it includes modules of 24, 8 and 5 MP. The front panel of the smartphone is occupied by a single 24-megapixel sensor, which is suitable not only for high-quality selfies, but also for quick face unlocking. The battery of this excellent camera phone has a capacity of 3300 mAh, and this, taking into account the installed hardware, is enough for about 15 hours of HD video playback at maximum brightness.

Advantages:

  • Super AMOLED display 6 inches;
  • current version of the operating system;
  • first-class main camera;
  • performance of the hardware platform;
  • face unlock function;
  • good autonomy.

Flaws:

  • no fast charging;
  • no protection against water and dust;
  • The price tag is a bit high.

2. Xiaomi Mi8 6/64GB

Every year, Xiaomi phones surprise their fans more and more. In terms of price-quality ratio, the Chinese company's smartphones have virtually no equal, which makes them an ideal choice for users who want to wisely invest their own savings. As for the Mi 8 model we chose, it is one of the best solutions based on Snapdragon 845.

Xiaomi clearly borrowed the design of its current flagship from Apple. This decision can be criticized, but it can also be praised, because at minimal cost the manufacturer managed to make a very stylish smartphone. If copying doesn’t bother you, then it’s definitely worth taking a closer look at this new product.

However, in addition to the powerful “stuffing”, the smartphone also boasts an excellent AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2248x1080 pixels and a diagonal of 6.21 inches. Traditionally for modern flagships, the Xiaomi Mi 8 display contains a notch. However, the latter not only has cameras, a speaker, a notification LED and other sensors like most competitors, but also an infrared scanner needed for face unlock.

The main camera of the smartphone contains a pair of 12 MP models, one of which is supplied by Sony (IMX363, f/1.8, 4-axis stabilization), and the second is purchased from the Koreans from Samsung (S5K3M3, f/2.4). The rear sensors are equipped with AI, they can take excellent pictures in portrait mode and double the image using optics. The front camera for the Mi8 is also supplied by the South Korean Giant (Samsung S5K3T, f/2.0, pixel size 1.8 microns). It handles pictures perfectly, but in low light conditions noise may still appear in the photo.

Advantages:

  • top-end hardware that copes with any task;
  • reasonable cost;
  • one of the best cameras;
  • attractive design;
  • infrared sensor;
  • NFC for contactless payment;
  • Always On Display function.

Flaws:

  • the body is too easily soiled and slippery;
  • no audio jack;
  • no wireless charging.

3.Meizu 15 4/64GB

The Meizu 15 phone, released specially for the 15th anniversary of the company, incorporates the best developments of the manufacturer over the years of its existence. There is a stunning design, first-class “filling”, and components of the highest quality, and, of course, very decent sound, head and shoulders above most competitors.

The appearance of the smartphone is as symmetrical as possible: identical frames at the top and bottom, a front camera placed in the center, as well as a double rear camera lined up with a flash. There is also a button with a fingerprint scanner under the screen, but now it has become fully touch sensitive. Mechanical clicks are simulated using the mEngine motor, which is very similar to the analogue in Apple phones.

The manufacturer purchases modules for the main cameras from Sony. One of the sensors (IMX380) has a resolution of 12 MP, an aperture of f/1.8 and a focal length of 25 mm, the second (IMX350) has 20 MP, f/2.6, 39 mm. Next to them is a ring flash with 6 diodes, in the center of which there is a laser autofocus. The resolution and aperture of the front module are 20 MP and f/2.0, respectively, and ArcSoft algorithms help it take pictures.

Advantages:

  • individuality and attractiveness of design;
  • excellent rear camera and good front camera;
  • sound quality in speakers and headphones;
  • excellent AMOLED display from Samsung.

Flaws:

  • NFC is missing.

The past year was truly successful for Huawei. The manufacturer, one after another, released first-class smartphones that delighted fans and brought profit. The new policy of the Chinese brand was aimed at covering all price segments of the market, and if you want to decide which camera phone is best to buy in the 20-30 thousand rubles category, we strongly recommend that you take a closer look at the Nova 3 model.

The smartphone is equipped with dual modules for both the main and front cameras. Only in the first case, one of the modules is color (16 MP), and the second is black and white (24 MP). The front camera contains a pair of color sensors of 24 and 2 MP.

The camera phone is equipped with a balanced “filling”, a USB-C 2.0 port, as well as a 3750 mAh battery that supports fast charging. The design of the smartphone is similar to other products of the company: an elongated body, rounded corners, a screen with a cutout and a 19:9 ratio, a metal frame, and a gradient color. By the way, a good protective film was initially glued to the display. In addition to this, the buyer will find headphones in the kit, and they please with more or less good quality.

Advantages:

  • high-quality display made using LTPS technology;
  • takes great photos;
  • dual front camera;
  • good equipment;
  • attractive design;
  • excellent equipment;
  • excellent system optimization.

Flaws:

  • The cameras do not have stabilization.

The best smartphones with a good camera under 50,000 rubles

More recently, manufacturers offered flagship devices for 50 thousand rubles. Today, the cost of top-end devices is two or even three times higher. But the functionality and quality of mobile phones have also increased significantly. Moreover, this is true for both flagships and more affordable smartphones. For example, in the price range up to 50,000, today more advanced smartphones are offered than the flagships released 2-3 years ago. For the same price, some companies offer some of their best smartphones, whose relevance both in terms of hardware and cameras will remain for several years.

Starts the Galaxy A9 category from the South Korean brand Samsung. Looking at one of the best camera phones of this year, it immediately becomes clear that it is an analogue of the A7 model described above, but with an additional main camera, an excellent hardware platform and slightly changed ergonomics. And although these differences are enough to talk about different devices, in reality we get very similar models.

Without going into details, we note that the smartphone’s hardware is sufficient for current games and modern applications, and on its large 6.3-inch display it is convenient to play, watch videos, surf the Internet and communicate on social networks. With autonomy, everything is also in order, for which we should thank the 3800 mAh battery. I would like to dwell in more detail on the cameras and the need for four main modules at once:

  1. Main (24 MP, f/1.7)
  2. Telephoto lens (10 MP, f/2.4, 2x optical zoom)
  3. Wide-angle (8 MP, f/2.4, 120 degree view)
  4. Portrait (5 MP, f/2.2, Live Focus option)

The latter is solely responsible for determining the depth of field, so it does not play the main role in the quartet. But the photos in the appropriate mode are really very good. The main 24-megapixel module copes well with shooting in low light, and the telephoto lens provides x2 image magnification without loss of quality.

As a result, the Galaxy A9 takes beautiful photos that will appeal to casual users and mobile photographers. True, the need for 4 modules at once is very doubtful, because 2-3 modules can do the same thing, and the Pixel can cope with only one. Most likely, the manufacturer made this decision so that they would talk about it as a brand that was the first to release a smartphone with four main cameras.

Advantages:

  • attractive body colors;
  • impressive autonomy of the device;
  • optimal choice of hardware platform;
  • The pictures taken with the main camera are very decent;
  • nice price tag.

Flaws:

  • four cameras are not at all necessary;
  • The housing is not protected from moisture and dust.

2. Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra Dual 32GB

The Sony brand is one of the few that does not follow popular trends, but maintains an individual style. Released in January last year, the Xperia XA2 Ultra did not receive a notch or even an elongated display. Its 6-inch screen has a classic FHD resolution, and the device has only one main camera (23-megapixel module with f/2.0 aperture, 24 mm focal length and 84-degree viewing angle). The front panel of the device is equipped with a pair of 16 and 8 MP sensors.

The smartphone with the best camera from Sony in the category up to 50 thousand is built on the basis of the “stone” Snapdragon 630 and is supplemented with 4/32 GB of RAM/permanent memory.

If the storage available in the device is not enough for you, then the device additionally allows you to install a microSD card with a capacity of up to 256 GB. It’s nice that the slot for it is separated from the two SIM cards. There are no complaints about the assembly of the smartphone, enclosed in a durable aluminum case. As for autonomy, the buyer can count on a confident day of operation of the device in mixed mode, which can be provided by a 3580 mAh battery.

Advantages:

  • attractive and original design;
  • excellent hardware performance;
  • quite capacious battery;
  • quality, brightness and screen diagonal;
  • dual front camera;
  • shooting with the main sensor.

Flaws:

  • the price is a bit high.

3. Samsung Galaxy S9+ 64GB

Next up is one of the current flagships from Samsung. The Galaxy S9+ model is equipped with a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution, an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and traditional rounded side edges for the line. The device also has a Bixby voice assistant button, which is quite useless in Russia and the CIS countries. Alas, it is not yet possible to reassign it without additional software.

The smartphone boasts a rich package, including headphones from AGK, an adapter from Type-C to Micro USB, as well as an OTG adapter necessary for connecting external drives, peripherals and other devices.

A smartphone with a really good camera from Samsung can boast of housing protection from moisture, water and dust according to the IP68 standard. And this despite the fact that the standard 3.5 mm jack was not removed from the smartphone. The hardware platform of the device may differ by region: either an Exynos CPU with a Mali GPU, or a combination of Snapdragon and Adreno. At the same time, the RAM and permanent memory in the device are always 6 and 64 GB.

Advantages:

  • excellent main cameras (2 x 12 MP);
  • productive hardware platform;
  • attractive design in Samsung style;
  • full protection of the case from water and dust;
  • there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack;
  • one of the best displays;
  • excellent sound;
  • decent autonomy (3500 mAh battery).

Flaws:

  • Useless, non-reusable Bixby button.

4. OnePlus 6 8/128GB

OnePlus has changed a lot since the presentation of its first smartphone. Phones that were once called flagship killers now cost almost as much as some top-end devices from rival manufacturers. But along with the price tag, the capabilities, quality and design appeal of smartphones from the Chinese brand have also increased. The perfect confirmation of these words is the smartphone with the best camera according to user reviews – OnePlus 6.

The best model of the brand at the end of January 2019 is the 6T. However, the cameras and hardware in this device are similar, and among the important advantages of the updated smartphone are a slightly larger display with a smaller notch and an under-screen fingerprint scanner. At the same time, the new product was left without a 3.5 mm jack and went up in price by about $130, which, in the opinion of our editors, makes it less interesting compared to the OnePlus 6.

The phone is equipped with an excellent dual main camera with 16 and 20 MP modules. The manufacturer chose a 16-megapixel sensor as the front module. The rear modules of the device boast a portrait mode, x2 optical zoom, as well as optical stabilization when shooting video.

The hardware platform of the camera phone includes Snapdragon 845, Adreno 630, as well as 128 and 8 GB of permanent and RAM. The device is powered by a 3300 mAh battery that supports the proprietary Dash Charge fast charging function. We also note the high-quality 6.28-inch AMOLED display, which is one of the best on the market.

Advantages:

  • operating system performance;
  • There will be enough “stuffing” for years to come;
  • mode switch lever;
  • there is a jack for regular headphones;
  • Excellent shooting with the rear camera.

Flaws:

  • Always On mode does not work, although the AMOLED screen;
  • imperfection of unlocking the device by face.

The best premium camera phones

You can get great pictures with inexpensive devices. But if you want to not only take good photos, but also play all the latest games without worrying that your chosen device won't be able to handle new projects in a few years, then you should choose a premium smartphone. Of course, excellent performance is not all that top devices have to offer. Their advantages also include excellent appearance, high-quality materials that are unavailable for the middle and lower price segments, perfect assembly and unique features that will only appear in more affordable devices in a few years.

1. Apple iPhone Xs 64GB

If you want to choose a smartphone for photography and video among products from Apple, then one of the most interesting solutions available on the market today is the iPhone Xs. This device is equipped with the most modern A12 Bionic processor, which outperforms even the recently released Snapdragon 855, devices based on which are just starting to go on sale. The smartphone also has two 12 MP main cameras that take excellent photos and first-class videos with optical stabilization.

If the iPhone Xs suits you in all respects, but you would prefer a display with a larger diagonal, then take a closer look at the Max version of this device. There are not too many differences between these smartphones, because even the increase in display diagonal to 6.5 inches did not affect the pixel density of the first-class OLED matrix (458 ppi). The hardware and cameras of both devices are similar, but the Max version received a slightly larger battery (3400 versus 2800 mAh).

The IP67 housing protection introduced in the iPhone X has migrated to the new smartphone, making it perfect for vacation. There is also fast and wireless charging, but for each of them you will have to purchase the appropriate charger. As for the screen, it again beats all competitors. Its resolution is 2436x1125 pixels (463 ppi) with a diagonal of 5.8 inches and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The screen has a “notch”, the fashion for which was set by Apple itself, where the best infrared face sensor, which is presented in portable technology today, is installed.

Advantages:

  • large and colorful screen;
  • luxurious updated cameras;
  • sound in speakers and headphones;
  • good level of autonomy;
  • machine learning capability;
  • the most productive hardware;
  • reliability of unlocking using Face ID;
  • impeccable build quality and materials.

Flaws:

  • impressive cost;
  • no adapter for 3.5 mm;
  • complete power supply without fast charging.

2.Huawei P20 Pro

The review ends with a smartphone with the best camera on the market – Huawei P20 Pro. This device is the leader in the DxOMark rating, and only the new Mate 20 Pro, which is also produced by Huawei, can compete with it. The main camera of the phone contains three sensors at once: 40, 20 and 8 MP. Optical zoom, monochrome shooting or background blur – this smartphone can do it all. In the video recording, the P20 Pro also shows itself at its best, while offering proprietary features.

The screen of the reviewed model is made using AMOLED technology. The display resolution and diagonal are 2240x1080 and 6.1 inches, respectively. As for performance, it is responsible for the top-end Kirin processor, which is produced by Uaway itself, as well as Mali-G72 graphics and 6 GB of fast RAM. All this is powered by a 4000 mAh battery. A pleasant bonus for buyers will be the protection of the P20 Pro smartphone from water, splashes and dust according to the IP67 standard.

Advantages:

  • built-in main camera with AI;
  • attractive design and colors;
  • impressive performance;
  • large battery capacity;
  • 128 gigabytes of storage;
  • amazing display.

Flaws:

  • rejection of the 3.5 mm jack;
  • slippery body (corrected with a cover).

Which camera phone is better to buy?

The above review of smartphones with the best cameras will allow any user to choose an excellent device, regardless of their budget. For only 9 thousand, consumers can buy Meiza. Analogues from Xiaomi and Samsung will cost a little more, and the latter is even equipped with NFC. The same brands are represented in the mid-price segment, but Nova 3, produced by Huawei, is a worthy competitor. Among the top smartphones for taking photos and videos, the iPhone Xs is best suited if you prefer iOS, and the Huawei P20 Pro is best for Android fans.

The modern electronics market is filled with gadgets with the most incredible functions. But the majority of users choose mobile phones that have the most popular properties:

  • high-quality camera;
  • good battery;
  • clear sound;
  • contrast screen;
  • high performance.

Buying a smartphone with the best camera 2017 requires a thorough study of the available range to choose a reliable device.

If you ask an experienced smartphone user which one is better in terms of photography and video shooting, 90% of them will say Google Pixel. This model is the best smartphone of 2017 with a good camera.

The developers have introduced the latest innovations in the field of photography. Daylighting produces high-quality images with precise detail and wide spatial coverage. But this is difficult to surprise experienced amateur photographers.
Google has focused on night photography. Cloudy weather, poor lighting or night are no problem for Google Pixel. Each frame is full of life, realism, and depth. There is no noise, the picture is not blurry at all.

2017 has proven to be a prolific year for smartphones with great cameras. Manufacturers finally began to understand that the race for megapixels is stupid, and began to work on other components that are no less important for the photographic capabilities of the gadget - such as the matrix and lenses. As a result, mobile devices began to appear on storefronts, capable of making the buyer forget about the dream of acquiring an expensive DSLR.

Which devices deserve the privilege of proudly calling themselves “camera phones” at the end of 2017, you will find out by reading our top 8.

8. Doogee BL7000

Main camera: Samsung ISOCELL sensor, 13 MP + 13 MP resolution, f/2.2 aperture, LED flash, touch autofocus.

: Samsung ISOCELL sensor, 13 MP, f/2.2 aperture, LED flash, autofocus.

Yes, you’re not imagining it - the outlandish Chinese novelty has exactly the same sensors both front and rear. And not just any, but Samsung ISOCELL, characterized by high focusing speed. The rear camera is double, both sensors have the same resolution – 13 megapixels. This allows the user to take spectacular photos with a blurred background on the Doogee BL7000, and the smartphone itself is considered innovative - after all, it is the first and so far the only gadget on the market with 3 13-megapixel cameras!

Oddly enough, the camera is not the main advantage of the Doogee BL7000. The smartphone is positioned by the manufacturer as a “champion” in terms of battery life. A fully charged 7,060 mAh battery lasts for 38 days. So the BL7000 could be a real boon for the naturalist photographing wildlife during long hikes.

The Doogee BL7000 was released only at the end of August, so at the time of compiling the rating it was difficult to find it on sale. You can order this gadget on the Chinese trading platform AliExpress.

7. Nubia Z11

Main camera: Sony IMX298 sensor, 16 MP resolution, f/2.0 aperture, ISO 100 – 12800, dual LED flash, digital and optical stabilization.

Additional (front) camera: Sony IMX179 sensor, 8 MP, f/2.4 aperture.

The flagship of the Nubia series from ZTE supports NeoVision 6.0 technology, which allows this smartphone to take photos comparable in quality to those from SLR cameras.

The rear camera of Nubia Z11 combines 3 types of image stabilization: manual (HIS), optical (OIS) and electronic (EIS). HIS makes it possible to take breathtaking panoramic photos, and thanks to OIS, photos are not blurred even in the evenings - when the lighting leaves much to be desired.

Let us not forget to mention such a wonderful thing as local tone mapping (LTM). This interesting technology artificially adds brightness to the photo in those places that are most darkened - due to which the photo turns out to be much more sensual. The photo on the left was processed by LTM, while the one on the right was devoid of any processing - as they say in Odessa, “two big differences.”

There are many photo and video modes available to the Nubia Z11 user. In particular, the Slow Shutter mode allows you to photograph moving objects without losing quality, and is therefore very useful when photographing sports events.

The front camera may leave a fastidious user disappointed. It gives a reliable image, but, alas, faded - this becomes obvious when comparing selfies from Nubia, Xperia XZ and modern Galaxy from Samsung. To “sweeten the pill” is a proprietary “beauty filter” that smoothes the skin, making the face more attractive. This filter, by the way, can be activated on the camera even during a video call.

6. Sony Xperia X Performance

Main camera: Sony IMX300 sensor, 23 MP resolution, f/2.0 aperture, ISO 100 – 12800, LED flash, predictive hybrid autofocus.

Additional (front) camera: 13 MP, f/2.0 aperture, autofocus.

“A real masterpiece” – this is how the Japanese manufacturer modestly calls its Sony Xperia X Performance smartphone on its official website. The device is good in terms of performance and looks quite good, but its main advantage, of course, is the cameras.

The Xperia X Performance is perfect for shooting action videos, as it is equipped with predictive focusing technology - this means that the rear camera of the smartphone is able to track a moving subject and predict its location so as not to lose focus.

The focusing of the rear camera on the Xperia X Performance is the most accurate and fastest - and this is not an unfounded statement. According to the results of tests conducted by Strategy Analitycs, a well-known marketing company, the Sony device surpassed the Huawei P9, LG G6, and all other vaunted camera phones of 2016-2017 in terms of autofocus accuracy.

Xperia X Performance gives the photographer the opportunity to choose one of several shooting modes (“Manual”, “Automatic” and others), as well as one of a variety of scenarios - for example, “Sports” or “Food”. What’s interesting is that in automatic mode, the smartphone is able to decide for itself which scenario to use - point the camera, for example, at your favorite pet, and you will see that the “Pets” scenario is already active.

The front 13-megapixel camera is distinguished by the fact that it has a large matrix and is equipped with proprietary photosensitive technologies from Sony. You can “take a selfie” even with a lack of light - the color rendition will still be excellent. As a bonus from the manufacturer - a filter that smoothes the skin so skillfully that even after a night of partying, you look “at 100” in a selfie.

5. iPhone 7 Plus

Main camera: Sony Exmor RS sensor, 12 MP + 12 MP resolution, f/1.8 + f/2.8 aperture, QuadLED flash, optical image stabilization for video, digital zoom.

Additional (front) camera: 7 MP, f/2.2 aperture, automatic image stabilization.

The iPhone 7 Plus has a dual rear camera, each sensor of which has a resolution of 12 megapixels. The first “eye” contains a wide-angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture, the second one contains a telephoto lens with an f/2.8 aperture. This may sound boring, but it actually allows the iPhone camera to work real miracles.

Example photo of an iPhone 7 Plus user

A user of an Apple gadget, for example, can easily take a photo with a bokeh effect - when the background is beautifully blurred, like in a movie. Previously, this effect was considered the prerogative of exclusively expensive DSLRs.

The second “miracle” from Apple is digital zoom, which is created due to the binocular effect when using 2 cameras simultaneously. Artificially, the iPhone can enlarge the image by 6 times when shooting video and 10 (!) times when shooting photos. The Apple phone also has an optical zoom: it is only twofold, but at the same time it is much cooler than digital, because it allows you to enlarge the picture without losing quality at all! Only Xiaomi Mi6, smartphones that have already “left the race” - like ASUS Zenfone Zoom and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom - plus some smartphones that were higher in the ranking can boast of this.

The front camera of the iPhone 7 Plus has a higher resolution than that of the “sixes” - 7 megapixels versus 5 megapixels. In addition, she “learned” to shoot videos in FullHD format, received optical image stabilization and even a new, “smart” flash that can analyze the quality of lighting before firing.

4. Samsung Galaxy S8

Main camera: Sony IMX260 sensor, 12 MP resolution, f/1.7 aperture, LED flash, optical stabilization, phase detection autofocus.

Additional (front) camera: Sony IMX320 sensor, 8 MP resolution, f/1.7 aperture.

In the age-old debate about who is cooler - Apple or Samsung, the Korean company takes the upper hand in this rating. Although it is impossible to say objectively whether the S8 takes better photographs than the iPhone 7 Plus - it is rather a matter of taste. Let's not forget that we are comparing devices of different generations - Apple will deliver its crowning blow in September 2017, when it shows the iPhone 8.

The main camera of the Samsung Galaxy S8 has a resolution of 12 megapixels - a low value, but this should not mislead the buyer about the photographic capabilities of the Galaxy S8. The camera's color rendition is at a very high level, and the HDR mode is much more intelligent than that of the iPhone 7 Plus - photos look light and contrasty.

Like the iPhone, Samsung boasts that its camera supports 2x optical zoom and high-speed video technology that allows you to play with the slo-mo effect.

With the S8 you can safely go for a walk around the city at night - shooting in the dark will not drive this device into a dead end. Thanks to the large pixels of the matrix (14 microns) and a fast lens, the gadget takes photos in which the smallest details are visible, even in low light conditions.

The S8's front camera includes the same fast lens as the rear one. Its main feature is a wide viewing angle: even if you bring the smartphone close to your face, the camera will capture as much of the surrounding space as possible.

3. HTC U11

Main camera: Sony IMX362 sensor, 12 MP resolution, f/1.7 aperture, dual LED flash, digital and optical stabilization, digital zoom.

Additional (front) camera: 16 MP resolution, f/2.0 aperture, wide viewing angle (150°).

The Taiwanese company is now on its last legs (it’s about to be swallowed up by Google), but within it there is definitely at least one division whose employees do not eat their bread in vain. And this division is engaged in the development of optics.

The well-known portal DxOMark put the HTC U11 in first place in its rating of camera phones in 2017 - and for good reason. The main module contains a 12-megapixel UltraPixel matrix, in which each pixel is increased in size - up to 14 microns; Thanks to this, the pictures are bright and clear.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 camera also has large pixels, but in terms of photo quality, the “Korean” loses – what’s the secret? It is very likely that in the innovative Auto HDR Boost function. The purpose of this proprietary function is to fully preserve all the details of the light and dark areas of the image.

Another proprietary technology, UltraSpeed provides very fast and 100% accurate autofocus. The phase focusing system uses every pixel, although this is an unconventional approach - a conventional camera uses only a few sensors for this purpose. Thanks to its ultra-fast focus, HTC U11 can be considered a reliable assistant in creating photo reports from music concerts and sporting events.

The front camera of the U11 has a higher resolution than the main one - something you rarely see. But here’s the paradox: she shoots quite mediocrely. Among the functionality with a “plus” sign, we can note support for HDR Boost (which works much better on the main camera), and with a “minus” sign – the lack of autofocus, a completely inexplicable phenomenon. If the HTC U11 had a better front panel, this gadget would get a higher place - but it only gets bronze.

2. Google Pixel

Main camera: Sony IMX378 sensor, 12 megapixel resolution, f/2.0 aperture, dual LED flash, digital stabilization, digital zoom.

Additional (front) camera: Sony IMX179 sensor, 8 MP resolution, f/2.4 aperture.

The HTC U11 received a record 90 points from DxOMark, while the Google Pixel is just one less at 89. Both smartphones are certainly at the forefront in terms of photographic abilities, although some experts believe that the Pixel deserves a place at the top of the rankings.

If you look at the characteristics of the Google Phone camera, you will not find anything interesting there - neither you have a fantastic resolution, nor a super-strong lens, nor even optical stabilization a la Galaxy S8. Indeed, if you compare pictures from Pixel, flagship Samsung and other expensive smartphones, the result will not be in favor of the first. The photo taken with a Google Phone is quite contrasting, but a little dark.

Miracles begin when you activate the HDR+ mode. When the camera starts, the smartphone takes 9 preliminary frames. During subsequent processing, all these frames are layered on top of each other, adding details that the picture lacks in order to be considered perfect. What's the result? Fantastically rich picture with excellent detail.

Google Pixel will also appeal to novice operators. The smartphone is capable of shooting video in several formats at once: for example, in 4K at 30 frames per second, in FullHD at 60 frames. There is also a slow motion mode: if you activate it, the frequency will increase to 240 frames per second at HD resolution.

The front camera of the Google Phone boasts a matrix with large pixels (1.4 microns), which compensates for the insufficiently wide aperture. Tests have shown that in terms of selfie quality, the Google Pixel is far ahead of the iPhone 7 Plus, the front of which is openly “yellow” and has a small viewing angle.

Huawei P10 Plus is the best camera phone!

Main camera: resolution 12 MP + 20 MP, aperture f/1.8 + f/1.8, dual LED flash, optical stabilization, digital zoom.

Additional (front) camera: 8 MP resolution, f/1.9 aperture.

On the back, opposite the camera eyes of the Huawei P10 Plus, the signature “Leica” proudly flaunts - and this is the best recommendation that can be given to a camera phone. The German company Leica specializes in the development and production of premium optical equipment - this is the “big fish” Huawei managed to get as a partner.

The main camera of the P10 Plus supports hybrid focusing and is also equipped with an optical stabilizer that helps improve video smoothness. The Leica SUMMILUX lens has an excellent f/1.8 aperture. Thanks to this parameter, it was the “plus” model that made it into our rating – the P10 optics have an f/2.2 aperture.

The second sensor has a higher resolution - as much as 20 megapixels, and the aperture is the same. However, it is monochrome and is capable of performing an exclusively auxiliary function - with its help you can take very clear and effective black and white photos.

An important advantage of the rear camera of the P10 Plus is the highest level software, developed, by the way, also by Leica. The Huawei gadget boasts unique photo processing algorithms that allow you to eliminate the shortcomings of artistic portraits in a natural way - just like in a professional photo studio. An interesting detail: special attention is paid to the model’s eyes - a separate algorithm is responsible for reliably displaying their natural color and emphasizing their shine.

The front camera of the smartphone is also equipped with Leica optics. It has an excellent aperture ratio - selfie lovers will definitely be satisfied, because the “selfies” will turn out to be of high quality even in the dark.

conclusions

The gold of our rating went to the Huawei P10 Plus gadget - having mastered the P9, the Chinese manufacturer, with the support of Leica, created the ideal camera phone with two fast lenses on the back and a very smart front camera. The leader could have been different - the lead of the P10 Plus is minimal - however, the cameras of other contenders showed shortcomings. Google Pixel, for example, does not support optical video stabilization, and the “champion” according to DxOMark HTC U11 has a very mediocre front camera, completely inexplicably devoid of autofocus.
