Five wireless keyboards for iPad. Five wireless keyboards for iPad Hotkeys in Mail

Hi all!
We are talking about a case for the iPad Air 2, which was received for review from the store. This store offers accessories for Apple products. I myself do not use the products of this company, but after receiving an offer from a store representative, I remembered my niece, who actively uses Ipad Air. She had long asked her mother to buy her a case, but her requests were not heard.
I told the store representative that I was ready to review the case for my niece. Among the entire assortment, I liked the case with the keyboard for the Ipad Air 2. My niece has her first Ipad Air. It took very little time to find the necessary information. We managed to find out that the cases designed for the second version of the iPad Air are compatible with the first version, but the cutout for the camera may not match.
I chose a brown case. A black case, it seems to me, would be too dull for a teenager.
The parcel reached the Bryansk region in a little less than a month.

The color of the case corresponds to that stated in the description. Unfortunately, it is difficult to convey the correct color in photographs.
The case fits the tablet perfectly. Even the cutout for the camera was in its place. This made me very happy. But it also made me wonder whether in this case the cutout for the camera would be suitable for the iPad Air 2. Since there is no way to check, the question remained rhetorical.
The quality of the case is excellent. To be honest, I didn’t even expect it to be so good. A very thick base that I think will provide good protection in case of a fall. We didn't check. :)
The seams are neat. The leatherette is of high quality, and it is quite difficult for a non-professional (of whom I am one) to distinguish it from genuine leather. The tablet is easily inserted into the case due to the Velcro hidden at the bottom.

When I saw the USB - micro-USB cord, I didn’t even immediately understand what it was for. After a more detailed examination of the case, I realized that the cord is intended for recharging the keyboard. The keyboard is attached to the case using a magnetic base. It holds quite tightly, but at the same time it can be removed without much effort. The material of the cover in the area under the keyboard is suede. A detailed study of the keyboard revealed a fixable flaw, namely: the lack of Russian letters. Because of this, my niece immediately put the keyboard aside. But this is a temporary problem, you will need to buy stickers, I always forget about them.

The keyboard is connected via bluetooth. The signal was picked up immediately. Even a child can figure out the connection. The layout is switched using the Ctrl+space keys.

It is worth mentioning the basis for vertical installation. It is very dense and stable. But there is also a small minus. You can’t just fold the base back, you need to slightly pull it towards you. This is a matter of habit, but at first it is inconvenient.

As a result, I can recommend a case for purchase if you have the device you need for it. My niece liked the case. It's been in use for over a month now.

Finally, a few more photos.

Thank you all for your attention!

UPD: The sizes that my niece told me:
Width: 37 cm (unfolded)
Length: 24 cm
Thickness: 2 cm
Diameter: 20 cm

As tablets increasingly become the workhorses of the modern office, the need for professionals to use them increases significantly. And let many fans Apple They say their iPad is perfect for all types of tasks, but it could use a few things. Namely, a QWERTY keyboard.

The only good thing about a virtual keyboard is that it takes up space on the screen and in RAM, and not in your travel bag. An ideal solution if the main goal is mobility, but to optimally use the capabilities, it is unfortunately difficult to do without a physical analogue. The solution is simple, these are Bluetooth keyboards, and we will talk about the most interesting of them further.

Belkin QODE Ultimate Keyboard Case from Belkin

Belkin's first model designed specifically for iPad Air– made of aluminum, it is as thin and “airy” as the tablet itself. A neat stand holds the device in an inclined position, and three neodymium magnets fix it, preventing it from slipping under the influence of gravity. Tested by those who like to lie on the sofa with a tablet in their hands - the mount is designed very competently, both hands remain completely free for useful work.

The power system is simply wonderful; the device is prudently equipped with a switch for when the keyboard is not needed. As a result, 4300 hours of battery life in standby mode is six months on a single charge. Naturally, in active mode, energy is consumed faster, in about 264 hours, but this is several times more than the figure for the tablet itself. It is proposed to recharge the gadget using the included micro-USB cable, and a groove is made in the side plane of the tablet mount - in order to simultaneously charge the iPad itself with maximum comfort.

To own such a functional and stylish accessory, you will have to part with the equivalent of $129. But if you look hard enough, you can find a better deal – for $85, on Amazon.

Belkin QODE Thin Type Keyboard

Thin Type Too thin to serve as a tablet case, this is a lightweight, compact accessory measuring 4mm thick. But its body is made of solid anodized aluminum, which makes it possible to use the keyboard as an additional layer of protection for iPad Air, putting it in a travel bag. Like the older model, Belkin QODE Ultimate Keyboard Case, it is equipped with hot buttons for iPad Air, uses magnetic closures and has an on/off button.

The latter is very useful; it is impossible to integrate a large battery into a thin case, but its 79 hours Belkin QODE Thin Type works fine. Plus 3100 hours of standby time and recharging via micro-USB. A small minus is that the tilt angle of the tablet in the lock is fixed, 35º, but at least you can install the iPad both vertically and horizontally, in landscape orientation. This Bluetooth keyboard costs $99 on Amazon.

Belkin QODE Slim Style Keyboard Case

A case designed directly for Apple tablets with a built-in keyboard. With 5 color options, it is primarily used as a fashion accessory for the iPad, but also has utilitarian functions. Having unfolded the case, we get something like a laptop with a display and keyboard, however, this model does not have a fixed opening angle - you will need to find some kind of support. But when the need for a keyboard disappears, Belkin QODE Slim Style Keyboard Case It easily folds in the opposite direction and you can then work with the tablet with one hand.

The keyboard case is equipped with its own battery; micro-USB is used for charging. The retail price is $79.99, but you can find an option on Amazon for just $67. But with such a modest size and lack of clear information about battery life, a case with a keyboard is unlikely to compete with other gadgets.

Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio

Another variation on the theme of a case with a built-in keyboard, but this time made in the Logitech corporate style. The tablet is secured in the case with a SecureLock and can be positioned in two positions: vertical for working with the keyboard and horizontal for transportation. Function of the protective cover in Fabric Skin Keyboard Folio It’s implemented quite well, it’s convenient to drum on the keys – just like when working with a desktop. Another accessory from Logitech is distinguished by more or less modest dimensions, 1.7 cm thick and weighing 425 g, plus it has a built-in battery designed for 180 hours of operation. Alas, such a perfect and very nice device is not cheap, about $120.

Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover

In a figurative expression, this keyboard is the “other half” of the iPad Air. This means that it is very thin, 7 mm, and light - 330 g, and is also maximally stylized to match the design of Apple's brainchild. The same aluminum body, a similar “airiness” feeling, the characteristic shape of the buttons and other small details. The tablet mount is standard, with magnets, fixation in a vertical position - with their help. The built-in battery, according to official data, provides 180 hours of operation, and purchase an ultra-thin keyboard for iPad Air available for $79.99. And what’s nice is that they promise to deliver for free.

The whole point is in the name - this model of the keyboard case from Logitech is a more “sleek” version of FabricSkin. Exactly the same dimensions and fastening system, similar design of the vertical fixation mechanism, even the operating time is similar. But it is thinner than its older brother by as much as 2 mm and does not look so heavy; in addition, according to the subjective feelings of users, this keyboard is more pleasant to work with. And the final argument is that it costs less, just like the ultra-thin one Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, $79.99 at Amazon.

Logitech Tablet Keyboard for iPad

Perhaps the cheapest and most unpretentious solution from Logitech, just an external QWERTY keyboard with Bluetooth. But, nevertheless, designed directly to work in conjunction with Apple iPad. Portable, complete with a case that serves as a stand for the tablet - everything is arranged very simply. The power supply is implemented in an interesting way; instead of a LiON battery that needs frequent recharging, there are 4 AAA batteries - cheap and cheerful. Price Logitech Tablet Keyboard is $69.99.

ZAGGkeys Folio, backlit keyboard

The gadget is designed in the image and likeness of a laptop, opening it and installing iPad Air into the top slot, we get something very reminiscent of a MacBook Air. The difference is that the thickness ZAGGkeys Folio 7.6 mm, but its working space is 30% larger than that of similar keyboard cases - there is room to place your fingers. In addition to standard keys, there are also quick buttons for iPad, all elements of the keyboard are backlit - what if you have to work in semi-darkness? The batteries last for a standard 180 hours of operation, but due to additional energy consumers, the batteries for the keyboard had to be made larger than usual - the device weighs 535 g. There is also a discount offer on Amazon - the cost of the gadget will be about $80.

ZAGGkeys Universal Black - simple and elegant

It is truly universal, suitable for working with tablets running iOS, Android or Windows. And no fuss with fastenings - due to the curved shape, the case for the device, which serves as a stand for the tablet, is very stable. On the other hand, the combination of full-size keys and a curved surface makes typing a more comfortable experience. From traveling to working position and back ZAGGkeys Universal Black transforms in just a couple of movements, and is easier to carry around than a model ZAGGkeys Folio– affects the weight of 294.85 g instead of 0.5 kg. For our hard-earned $69.99 we get an accessory with a battery life of about 180 hours, and on Amazon, as usual, you can buy it for $45.

Keyboard and stand – ZAGGkeys FLEX

Creative engineering has given rise to yet another gadget option that is compatible with all tablets, regardless of platform. Whether it’s an iPad or something with Android on board – with a weight of 320 g, ZAGGkeys FLEX can easily be carried with you all the time and used as needed. The scheme is the same as ZAGGkeys Universal Black, the keyboard case doubles as a stand for the tablet, which can be mounted in either portrait or landscape orientation. The tilt angle, however, is fixed, which is somewhat inconvenient, but this is compensated by the fairly large buttons on the keyboard and a battery life of about 180 hours. Price ZAGGkeys FLEX– 79 dollars.

Kensington KeyFolio Exact Plus Thin Folio

A distinctive feature of this model produced by Kensington is its flexible tilt angle adjustment system. The keyboard itself is attached with magnetic clasps and moves along the base, just like the iPad stand. Customizing it is as easy as shelling pears, but you have to pay for such versatility with a lot of weight - the sliding mechanism weighs more than a kilogram. On the other hand, the spacious 6-row keyboard is more comfortable than its tiny counterparts, and 6 backlight colors make it very attractive. The tablet mount itself is equipped with protective sides, and all manipulations with the gadget can be done with one hand. Price KeyFolio Exact Plus Thin Folio retails for $149.99, $127 on Amazon.

Kensington KeyFolio Pro Plus Folio Keyboard Case

The younger brother of the previous model, this accessory is designed in the form of a thin case, which is equipped with a sliding mechanism for attaching the tablet and the keyboard itself. While not particularly functional, it captivates with its stylish appearance - faux leather is used in its decoration, and the accessory itself is more of a fashion item than a utilitarian item. You can become its owner for $119.99, there is a cheaper offer on Amazon, $99.

Recommend a specific model until it is unknown what exactly the needs of a particular owner are iPad Air, there is no point. For some, size and weight are extremely important, others are concerned about the type of fastening and angle of inclination, and there are probably those who buy accessories solely because of their appearance. Set your priorities, check the descriptions and make your choice.

Yes, almost everything is the same as a standard keyboard in a full-fledged Mac and even a little more.

What is the article about and for whom?

This material is for everyone who wants to get a new experience with an iOS device and wants to slightly expand its functionality. The article will be especially useful for those who have to type a lot of text on an iPhone or iPad, for example, while actively working with email, communicating on social networks and instant messengers. Maybe a person is engaged in writing, blogging, or has decided that it’s time to keep a diary of his life. Believe me, you can easily do without a laptop if you have a hardware keyboard for your iPhone or iPad.

From the article you will learn what hotkeys iOS supports now, which ones will appear in the near future with the release of iOS 9, what mobile external keyboards exist and what they can be used for besides typing (at least some models).

An accessory underrated by the masses

It would seem, why do we need a hardware keyboard for the iPad and iPhone, when the devices have a completely comfortable on-screen one. At least it’s enough to briefly respond to an email, write a tweet or SMS, or comment on a post. And with some skill, you can type quite large texts with two fingers. In principle, everything is correct - for the vast majority of iOS gadget users, a hardware keyboard is not needed. But if it does exist, then you can get a number of useful benefits. In particular:

We'll talk about hotkeys a little later, but first, let's figure out what kind of keyboards exist for iOS devices.

Apple Wireless Keyboard and analogues

Yes! The standard Apple Wireless Keyboard that comes with any Mac is compatible with iOS and can be easily used with an iPhone or iPad. True, you will have to come up with a separate stand for gadgets or purchase a special accessory, for example, Incase Origami Workstation:

There are analogues from other companies, such as compact and Logitech Keys-to-Go:

In general, we are talking about almost standard monoblock keyboards for a computer. Many of the wireless models have iOS support. Plus in this case, in versatility - you can use the same keyboard with a computer, iPad, iPhone and, sometimes, even with an Android device. In addition, these are often models with full-size keys and all rows of buttons, including the numeric key. Minus is that you need to bother with a stand for a portable device.

Folding keyboards

In most cases, the pros and cons are the same as in the models described above, but such keyboards take up less space when folded. A good example is , which allows you to switch between two devices on the fly:

Among analogues one can also recall. I’ll give you some advice - if you’re choosing folding models, buy from well-known brands, be it MS, Logitech or someone else who has distinguished themselves in the accessory field. No matter how many times I tried Chinese models, like the BaiYuYi mentioned above, it was always a nightmare. Either the buttons are rubber with an indistinct click, or they stick, or the keyboard quickly discharges. In general, it’s better to overpay than waste money on a strange craft.

Finally, I will mention an unusual new product. This keyboard generally rolls up into a tube and when folded it is as compact as possible. But it is not yet clear how the accessory will perform in life. The company just announced it the other day, but it has not yet reached store shelves.

Keyboards and covers

Some of the most common types of keyboards for iPad are made in the form of unique protective covers for the display. There are many options, but the most popular ones are produced by Logitech, namely and. There are similar models in .

Overlay keyboards are quite compact; models from renowned manufacturers have high-quality keys with a scissor mechanism and a very large size. There are options with backlighting, and sometimes even with built-in acoustics, as in.

For the most part, such accessories can please you with large keys, but as for their mechanism and the materials used, there are different ones, from quite comfortable plastic models with a scissor mechanism to some kind of fabric misunderstanding with a weak tactile response.

An important advantage of all such keyboards is that they act as stands for a tablet or iPhone. Many models can be used on your lap just like a regular laptop. For example, I often work with and .

As you can see, there is a large selection, a lot of options for every taste, color and budget. All that remains is to learn how to fully work with such devices in order to turn your iPhone or iPad into a small laptop or typewriter.

Hot!

The easiest way to figure out a hardware keyboard for iOS is for Mac owners. You know that Apple's mobile platform is based on OS X? Now you know for sure. So she borrowed a lot of hot keys from an older relative. For example, quick cursor control system in text editors, Mail.app and other applications where you need to work with text:

  • cmd + ➡- move to the end of the line;
  • cmd + ⬅- move to the beginning of the line;
  • cmd + ⬇- move to the end of the text;
  • cmd + ⬆- go to the beginning of the text;
  • alt + ➡- move the cursor one word to the right;
  • alt + ⬅- move the cursor one word to the left;
  • alt + ⬆- move to the beginning of the current paragraph;
  • alt + ⬇- move to the end of the current paragraph;
  • If you add to all the actions described above the “ Shift", then they will be executed with simultaneous text selection.
    *cmd is the Command or ⌘ button

Work with text:

  • cmd+C- copying selected text;
  • cmd + X- cutting selected text;
  • cmd + V- paste copied or cut text from the clipboard;
  • cmd+A- highlighting all text;
  • cmd+Z- cancel the last action with the text;
  • cmd + Shift + Z- undo the last action with the text;
  • cmd + space- language switching;
  • cmd+del- deleting the entire string fragment to the left of the cursor;
  • alt+del- deleting the word to the left of the cursor.

Hotkeys in Safari:

  • cmd+L- go to the address bar (very convenient when you need to copy a link to paste it into the text);
  • cmd+T- open a new tab;
  • cmd + W- close the current tab;
  • cmd+R- update (reload) the current tab;
  • cmd + .(dot) - stop loading the current tab.

Hotkeys in Mail:

  • cmd+N- create a new letter;
  • cmd + Shift + D- to send a letter;
  • Backspace- delete the currently selected letter.

Please note that the mentioned hotkeys in Safari and Mail have been added since .

In addition, mobile keyboards often contain special keys for quick access to a number of iOS functions. For example, the one I currently use has hardware buttons for Home, locking the display, activating the multitasking interface, screenshot, displaying the on-screen keyboard, and controlling playback and volume.

As you can see, thanks to a hardware keyboard, you can not only masterfully control the cursor, as well as quickly type and highlight text, but also get more comfort when working with Safari and Mail. And this is just the beginning. In iOS 9, Apple added even more hotkeys.

Hello from the future

The branded email client Mail has the largest number of hotkeys in iOS 9:

  • cmd+R- reply to the current letter;
  • cmd + Shift + R- Reply All;
  • cmd + Shift + F- forward;
  • cmd + Shift + J- mark the letter as spam;
  • cmd + Shift + L- check the box (star for Gmail);
  • cmd + Shift + U- mark a letter or selected letters as unread;
  • cmd + ⬆- go to the previous letter;
  • cmd + ⬇- transition to the next letter;
  • cmd + Backspace- delete the current letter;
  • cmd + Shift + N- check new mail;
  • cmd+N- write a new letter;
  • cmd + Option + F- search in the mailbox.

By the way, if you suddenly forget some of the above commands, then in iOS 9 in any application that supports hot keys you can hold down the button Command to display the corresponding help window.

The powerfully updated proprietary application has also acquired its own hotkeys. Notes»:

  • cmd+B- make the selected text bold;
  • cmd+I- make the selected text italic;
  • cmd+U- make the selected text underlined;
  • cmd + Option + T- turn the selected text into a title (large font);
  • cmd + Option + H- turn the selected text into a subsection (large font, but smaller than in the title);
  • cmd+N- new note;
  • cmd + Option + L- turn selected text into a checkable list;
  • cmd + Option + U- mark a list item (or several) as completed;
  • cmd + Option + B- turn the selected list into plain text.

Hotkeys in Safari were replenished with literally several items (in addition to those described above), namely:

  • cmd+F- search on the page;
  • Control + Tab- move to the next tab;
  • Control + Shift + Tab- go to the previous tab;
  • cmd + Shift + R- activate reading mode (Reader).

Even " Contacts» got a couple of hotkeys:

  • cmd+N- new contact;
  • cmd+F- search for contacts;

And the new iOS finally has a menu for switching between applications, similar to that in OS X:

To display it on the screen, just press the combination cmd + Tab, that is, similar to that in OS X. Without releasing the button cmd, click on Tab to move to the next application in the window.

iOS 9 has a number of other interesting innovations that turn the iPad Air 2 with a hardware keyboard almost into a laptop (two-window mode, picture-in-picture). So this is a good reason for owners of Apple’s most powerful tablet to acquire the appropriate accessory. But there are also rumors about which the mentioned features will be very useful, plus there is hope that Apple will release its own special keyboard for the large tablet. This will be the hybrid computer that some fans of products with a logo in the shape of a bitten apple have been waiting for so long.

P.S.. I very rarely see people with an iPad and a hardware keyboard, although I myself started using such a combination several years ago. I wonder how many readers now use an external keyboard to expand the capabilities of a portable device. Perhaps you also know some interesting tricks that are missing in this article. If you need a physical QWERTY keyboard to navigate your iPad 2, one of these might make your fingers happy.

Even if you feel comfortable working with the virtual keyboard of the iPad 2, and you don’t mind the fact that your fingers hit the glass, breaking the soft pads, like a fighter smashing his knuckles on a makiwara, still think about it. You won't be able to use the on-screen keyboard for long to write a long report or solve complex problems. In this case, it will help you wirelessBluetoothkeyboard foriPad.

There may be some rationality in buying a laptop instead of a tablet if you often need to work with documents or if you are, for example, a writer. But a wireless keyboard will save you the frustration.

The ideal wireless keyboard should offer a full-length panel with a full set of keys, and be lightweight and compact enough to be easily packed into a case. Unfortunately, the ability to accomplish such a task is somewhere between asking “give me a 25-inch monitor, light and cheap” and... well, you have to find a compromise. What features you can sacrifice depends on your personal preference. After all, keyboards can be different too. In one case you will have to work with two fingers, in the other - worse than a stenographer.

At first glance, the Apple Wireless Keybord doesn't look mobile enough. At 11.1 inches, it will be longer than the iPad, making it more difficult to fit into that messy suitcase that's gathering dust in the closet than the tablet itself.

However, the keyboard is lighter than it looks. It's easy to tuck into your backpack when you're on the go. Two Apple products easily become one, meaning you can enjoy the tablet even on a flight, and when you settle down for the night, take out the keyboard.

Installation is a breeze and the ergonomics are simply excellent. There's one reason the AWK can be mistaken for a standard keyboard: it's solid. In addition to the fact that there are no keys with numbers, all other buttons are located as usual for those who touch-type. Your fingers just rest, you don’t have to tap too hard, even a gentle press responds with a letter on the display.

Please note: This keyboard is powered by two AA batteries, while others need to be plugged into a USB port.

Overall, if you're looking for something that will allow you to use the iPad for long, intense content creation while you're at home or on a hike where size doesn't really matter (let's say you're driving a car and the keyboard rests on your next chair), and if you are ready to take two bars of metal with you instead of one, this is for you.

Belkin Keyboard Folio for iPad 2

The Belkin folder keyboard, if you can call it that, is very pretty. It combines a case in the form of a tablet folder and a keyboard. Measuring 9.1 x 1.1 x 11.9 inches and weighing 771 grams, the Folio isn't a full-size keyboard, but its keys are close enough to allow you to type as quickly as an Apple wireless keyboard. When Belkin said his offering was shaped by well-placed TruType keys for easy typing, he wasn't kidding.

The Belkin Keyboard Folio is close enough to be called a good standard keyboard. It took about five seconds to connect her to the tablet. It took a little longer to figure out how to unfold the keyboard and set up the iPad correctly (the six-step instructions didn't cover all the details of the process).

In addition to the case, the iPad will receive a keyboard and stand. Belkin included in his design a flap that retracts under the keyboard during use, so that the entire structure is more or less stable. This, in turn, makes it possible to adjust the angle of the screen.

But despite the fact that Belkin's daddy is not at all bulky to carry around all the time, not everyone may like the thickening of the iPad due to the carrier. Still, the tablet is elegant and thin enough to make it pleasant to work with even without a folder. In addition, the folder lid does not close tightly, leaving a gap, which would not be very safe on a hike or trip.

But there is another side: if you do not always use the keyboard, the folder with the keyboard built-in by default will be quite cumbersome for you and you will have to alternate it.

Logitech Fold-Up Keyboard for iPad

For those who remember the folding keyboard for the Palm PDA, this one from Logitech, just released, will bring a wave of nostalgia. Attach the keyboard to your iPad, and then spread its “wings” - the full-size keyboard is ready.

The Logitech Fold-Up is very well designed and also does interesting things. For example, it automatically turns on and off, depending on the position of the wings. It's also easier to attach and detach to the iPad than is possible with Belkin's creation.

The Logitech keyboard bundles together the actual keypads and tablet case, but doesn't provide protection for the iPad's screen. Moreover, it is designed to fit the Apple iPad, a proprietary case that attaches to the tablet with magnets. If you already have one of these covers and are happy with the way it protects the front of your tablet and the automatic on/off operation, you should definitely get the Logitech Fold-Up. But if you don't have a Smart Covet, you'll have to look for some kind of cover to protect the front of the tablet if you plan on lugging your iPad around in that flimsy keyboard case.

Like the Apple Wireless, the Fold-Up is a full-size Bluetooth keyboard. But the sensations from use are quite different. While the Apple Wireless feels like typing on a full-size wireless keyboard (minus a few missing keys), typing on the Fold-Up feels like you're just using an additional portable accessory. Even relatively light pressure causes the keyboard to flex and sag. This makes typing a little confusing because both wings of the keyboard are at different angles at different times.

On the other hand, unlike many portable options, the keys are made to be full size and it is very difficult to miss your finger when touch typing if you are used to typing on a standard keyboard.

The Logitech Fold-Up Keyboard is a convenient solution for those who travel frequently and would happily give up the feel of a desktop keyboard in exchange for the strange Fold-Up form factor.

Logitech Keyboard Case from Zagg for iPad 2

The Keyboard Case from Logitech and Zagg is a metal keyboard that's the size of an iPad in passive mode and protects the front of the tablet. If it is unfolded, the tablet can be fixed on special latches, which will serve well as holders for the device in semi-vertical mode.

The Keyboard Case is well designed in terms of portability. You can snap the iPad into the center of the keyboard in portrait mode, almost turning it into a netbook. But you can also put something behind the tablet, because sometimes it may seem that the center of gravity is too high, and the tablet could “move away” at any moment.

The edge of the keyboard is outlined by a metal ridge, which occupies more than three-quarters of the perimeter of the case, except for the piece where the hands will work. Not a problem if you type with two fingers or the unconventional “pecking” method. However, if you type with classic touch typing, your hands may feel a little cramped. If you cover the sides with a soft backing, it will be much more comfortable for your wrists.

On the one hand, the instructions describe in detail the most comfortable position for your hands while typing and for the tablet during its installation, but it is difficult to understand how convenient such an “installation” will be on an airplane.

The keys create a good impression: they enter quite softly, there is no need to knock, and they give a strong physical push when pressed. If the keyboard weren't so cramped, it would be close to ideal.

Solid Line Products combined a case and a rubberized keyboard into one briefcase that includes both an iPad stand and a keyboard. Because the case is made of leather rather than metal, it appears lighter than Logitech and Apple keyboards, but that's not true.

Due to its form factor, the RightShift iPad storage case is more suitable for an organizer than an electronic device. This format will appeal well to those who want to take their tablet somewhere unnoticed and without notification that there is a $600 device in their briefcase.

Unfortunately, rubberized keys are not very suitable for most people's classic typing. It may seem like you want to speed up your typing speed, but you can't because of the mixed feeling of sticky keys and unwanted repetitions.

Well, there is a typical drawback for this format: the keyboard is smaller than a full-size one.

The best results from this keyboard came from switching from touch typing to the two-finger "beak" method, which slowed down typing a bit, although it produced text faster than it would have been possible with an on-screen keyboard. I also had to hold the iPad on one side to prevent it from moving, because placing the tablet in the case was a good solution for viewing, but not for touching.

Verdict

Each of the options discussed above has its pros and cons, so your choice should be based on which factors are most important to you and where you are willing to compromise. Typing feel and weight are two of the biggest concerns that make the choice lean toward Apple's wireless keyboard, even though it's not as easy to carry as other options.

If traveling with two bars separately isn't for you, but you need a keyboard and its ergonomics are important, consider the Belkin Folio, which best recreates a good typing experience on a nearly full-size keyboard. But this thing weighs more than the iPad 2 itself.

And if you want a full-width keyboard that fits seamlessly with your iPad, try the Logitech Fold-Up if you don't mind its weight, price, and keyboard wings that flex under your fingers.
