  7. The resulting combination of numbers from the SMS message must be entered into a special field, and then click “Send”.

Samsung Pay security and privacy

If you still think that using the payment service is not safe and that scammers can somehow take advantage of it to withdraw funds, we will hasten to reassure you of this.

The fact is that there are three systems at once to protect personal information: tokenization, fingerprint confirmation and Samsung KNOX.

Tokenization

As soon as payment for purchases is made, the system randomly creates a token (a special digital code). At the same time, the user’s personal information does not appear anywhere during the transaction.

Transaction confirmation using fingerprint

This or that payment transaction cannot go through without your fingerprint. So, even if the smartphone is lost, it will be impossible for the finder to pay for purchases from someone else’s smartphone.

Samsung KNOX

The security system inside the device is designed in such a way that it can prevent any third-party hacker attack. It continuously monitors smartphone vulnerabilities. Even if a smartphone can be infected with malware, the card data will be securely encrypted inside the Samsung KNOX container.

BINBANK cards are also supported, but only those issued under the name MDM Bank. Support for new maps will be implemented later.

How Samsung Pay works

Payment is very simple. To pay, just open the application by swiping up and bring your phone to the bank terminal, confirming the purchase. All user data is stored in encrypted form, and information about virtual cards is transmitted to the terminal, which allows you to keep real data safe. No commission is charged.

What devices does Samsung Pay support?

Naturally, only owners of Samsung devices can use this system. But not all of the company’s gadgets support the payment system.

What devices is Samsung Pay supported on:

  • Galaxy S line (from series 6*);

On November 7, 2016, Sberbank launched the contactless payment service Samsung Pay for its many clients - owners of Samsung smartphones. Let us remind you that a month earlier Apple Pay became available to bank clients.

The launch of the Samsung Pay payment service by Sberbank is, perhaps, a larger-scale event, since there are still more owners of Samsung smartphones than Apple smartphones. It is also worth saying that the technology from the South Korean corporation is different from Apple, which makes it more interesting from a technological point of view. But first things first.

So, in this review we will look at:

  1. What devices and cards does Samsung Pay support?
  2. How to connect Samsung Pay Sberbank.
  3. How to set up and use the payment service.

What devices does Samsung Pay support? Sberbank

Today, the Samsung Pay payment service is available to the owner of the following gadget models:

  • Samsung Galaxy S8 and S9, as well as their PLUS versions.
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE and simply S7.
  • Samsung Galaxy A5 and A7 – 2016 release.
  • Samsung Galaxy Note5.
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE+.
  • Samsung S6 EDGE and S6 (NFC only) – from November 2016

As you can see, the list of smartphones is small, but nevertheless, in the near future we can expect the expansion of this list with new models. Also note that unlike Apple Pay, this service is not supported on smartwatches.

As for the cards that are supported by this payment service, at the moment these are only MasterCard cards. Visa cards will become available for connection within a few months. How to use Samsung Pay Sberbank

All Samsung Pay settings are carried out directly in the application of the same name on your smartphone. For example, add or remove a card, etc.

Due to our own patented MST technology (from the English Magnetic Secure Transmission - magnetic secure transmission) using the Samsung Pay payment service, you can pay at any terminal where the card is accepted. It is not even necessary that the terminal supports NFC contactless payments. The fact is that MST technology imitates the magnetic stripe of a bank card and transmits this information to the terminal, which perceives it as if you had passed the magnetic stripe through the terminal reader. The technology is truly unique and innovative.

To pay for a purchase using the Samsung Pay service from Sberbank you need to:

  1. Launch the payment application. The application is launched by clicking on the icon on the home screen or by swiping up from the bottom (moving across the screen without lifting your finger).
  2. Select card with which you want to pay for your purchase.
  3. Login by fingerprint or code.
  4. Bring your smartphone to the terminal and pay for your purchase. If the terminal is old and does not accept contactless payment, it is advisable to place the smartphone not on the terminal screen, but on the place where the cashier usually swipes a bank card (magnetic stripe reader). Typically, it is located on the side of the terminal. This will be a kind of imitation of the magnetic stripe of the card. If you see that the terminal is modern, and there is an NFC icon on the screen (an icon in the form of three radio waves), then feel free to touch your smartphone to the terminal screen.

Not every user has an idea of all the useful functions of their smartphone. Samsung Galaxy. The problem is that many features are hidden deep in the gadget’s settings. Today we will talk about eight hidden features of a smartphone running the latest version of OS Android 5.0 Lollipop, which can be found in the endless list of application settings in the menu.

On most Android-devices, you can take a screenshot by simultaneously pressing the Volume Down button and the Power button.

In the case of the Samsung Galaxy, to take a screenshot you need to press the power button and the “Home” button at the same time - this action requires both hands. However, there is a much more interesting way: simply swipe the screen with your entire palm.

Activating the function:

  • GS3: Settings > Motion > Palm swipe to capture (under Hand motions)
  • GS4: Settings > My device > Motions and gestures > Palm motion > Capture screen
  • Galaxy Note 3: Settings > Controls > Palm motion > Capture screen
  • GS5, GS6/GS6 Edge, Note 4, Note Edge: Settings > Motions and gestures > Palm swipe to capture
  1. Simplified mode

Countless buttons and settings TouchWiz UI may confuse inexperienced users. If the interface seems too complicated, you can switch to a simplified screen mode. In this mode, larger icons are displayed on the screen, and the only applications available are phone, Internet browser, email and custom applications, the list of which the user can create himself.

This feature is especially useful for children and elderly people.

Activating the function:

  • GS3: Settings > Home screen mode > Easy mode
  • GS4: Settings > My device > Home screen mode > Easy mode
  • Galaxy Note 3: Settings > Device > Easy mode
  • GS5, GS6/GS6 Edge, Galaxy Note 4/Note Edge: Settings > Easy mode
  1. Unlock with fingerprint

Fingerprints are one of the most reliable ways to identify a person. If a user wants a high level of information security on his gadget, he will probably choose to unlock the screen using a fingerprint.

There are two types of fingerprint unlocking on Samsung flagship smartphones. Galaxy S5 Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge use the older, less accurate swipe sensor: the user swipes down the display to the Home button. The new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have a built-in fingerprint sensor that works on the principle TouchID V iPhone: The user presses his finger on the “Home” button.

In addition to this, your fingerprint(s) can be used to log into Samsung accounts, other websites, and to confirm your PayPal purchases.

Activating the function:

  • GS5, Galaxy Note 4/Note Edge: Settings > Finger Scanner
  • GS6/GS6 Edge: Settings > Lock screen and security > Fingerprints

The GS3, GS4 and Galaxy Note 3 gadgets do not have a fingerprint scanner.

  1. Using a smartphone with gloves

As a rule, it is impossible to work with modern touchscreens with ordinary gloves: you have to either buy special gloves for touch screens or freeze your fingers. In Samsung Galaxy, you can increase the sensitivity of the display so that the user can operate the smartphone even with regular gloves.

Activating the function:

  • GS4: Settings > My device > Display > High touch sensitivity
  • Galaxy Note 3: Settings > Controls > Increase touch sensitivity
  • GS5, Galaxy Note 4 / Note Edge: Settings > Display > Increase touch sensitivity

Only the GS3 does not have such a setting. And in the new GS6 and GS6 Edge, sensitivity is high by default, and no additional manipulations with the settings are required.

  1. Find your phone

Samsung Galaxy gadgets have a “Find My Mobile” feature. To activate it, the user must create a Samsung account and use it to manage this function. Owners of devices that do not have the Find My Mobile feature can enable and manage Android Device Manager using their Google account.

Activating the function:

  • GS3: Settings > Security > Remote controls
  • GS4: Settings > More > Security > Device administrators > Android Device Manager
  • GS5: Settings > Security > Device administrators > Android Device Manager
  • GS6/S6 Edge: Settings > Lock screen and security > Find My Mobile
  • Galaxy Note 3: Settings > General > Security > Device administrators > Android Device Manager
  • Galaxy Note 4/Note Edge: Settings > Security > Remote controls
  1. Run two applications simultaneously

Many users believe that the Galaxy Note is the only Galaxy gadget that can run two applications simultaneously. This is not true, because “Multi window” works on the Galaxy S3, S4, S5 and the new S6/S6 Edge.

The "Multi window" feature is activated using two fingers: the user swipes two fingers down from the notification panel and turns it on in the quick settings panel. The user can also activate it in the application settings.

Activating the function:

  • GS3: Settings > Display > Multi window
  • GS4: Settings > My device > Display > Multi window
  • GS5, Galaxy Note 4/Note Edge: Settings > Multi window
  • Galaxy Note 3: Settings > Device > Multi window

In GS3, GS4, GS5, Galaxy Note 3, Note 4/Note EDGE, the Multi window function is activated by long pressing the “Back” button. In the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge, Multi window is activated by long pressing the multitasking panel (to the left of the “Home” button).

  1. Auto unlock (by face/voice/signature)

Users of GS3, GS4, Galaxy Note or Note II gadgets can unlock their devices simply by looking at the screen. The front camera recognizes the user's face and the gadget unlocks.

It's not the safest way to protect your phone, as the camera can easily be fooled by taking a photo, but when it works, it looks really cool.

Activating the function:

  • GS3: Settings > Lock screen > Screen lock > Face unlock
  • GS4: Settings > My device > Lock screen > Screen lock > Face unlock
  • Galaxy Note: Settings > Security > Screen lock > Face unlock.
  • Galaxy Note II: Settings > Lock screen > Screen lock > Face unlock

For added security, you can add a voice command by selecting "Face and voice" in your screen lock settings.

The Galaxy Note 3 does not have a visual unlock feature, but instead has a signature unlock: the user signs with the S Pen stylus.

GS5, GS6 / GS6 Edge, Note 4 and Note Edge gadgets are unlocked in the traditional way for all Android devices.

First introduced on the Galaxy S3, Smart Stay uses the front-facing camera to determine when to dim the brightness and turn off the display. The screen will remain active as long as the camera captures your face looking at the device's display.

Activating the function:

  • GS3, GS5, Galaxy Note 4/Note Edge, GS6/GS6 Edge: Settings > Display > Smart stay
  • GS4: Settings > My device > Smart screen > Smart stay
  • Galaxy Note 3: Settings > Controls > Smart screen > Smart stay

Even when Android Pay is officially launched in Russia, and according to rumors this should happen in the spring of 2017, Samsung Pay will remain the most desirable for owners of smartphones running Android. The reason is simple - the Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology introduced by Samsung specialists allows you to pay even in those terminals that do not support contactless payments. Some Galaxy smartphones and Gear S3 watches can create a magnetic field that mimics the stripe of a bank card and transmit information to legacy payment terminals. Other smartphones and smartwatches can't do this because Samsung bought the company behind MST and is unlikely to license the technology to other manufacturers.

After its launch in Russia, Android Pay users will have to make sure every time before paying that the terminal supports NFC, while Samsung Pay users can pay with watches and smartphones absolutely everywhere. Need I say that this is a serious competitive advantage? However, if you really want to use Samsung Pay, but for some reason you don’t want to change your smartphone, there is still a way out. Samsung itself has solved this problem - owners of any devices running Android 4.4 and later can get all the benefits of Samsung Pay if they buy a Gear S3 classic or Gear S3 frontier.

When launching the payment service, the company made a major concession and allowed Samsung Pay to be used on smartwatches, no matter which smartphone they were connected to. The only exception is the iPhone, which has a Gear S3 companion app available in the App Store but no Samsung Pay setup feature. One can only guess about the reasons for this, but it is possible that this situation arose not through Samsung’s fault, but because of Apple’s requirements for publishing applications. If the ability to connect the Gear S3 to the iPhone can still be understood (due to functional limitations, they are inferior to the Apple Watch), then supporting a competing payment system in the iOS application is clearly overkill.

So, owners of any smartphones running Android can use Samsung Pay on the Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier if two conditions are met: the device’s operating system is not older than Android 4.4, and the amount of RAM is more than 1.5 GB.

How to set up Samsung Pay on Gear S3 connected to any Android smartphone

6. On the Samsung Pay screen, tap on add card, enter card information
7. Confirm the entered data and enter the verification code from the bank
8. Provide an example of your signature - this may be required at the checkout when paying using MST technology
9. Wait approximately 5-10 minutes until the card verification process is completed
10. If you need to add more bank cards, repeat the last two steps
