Meizu is 10 years old. First look at the Meizu MIX watch and the U10 smartphone. Smartphones have one or more front cameras of various designs - pop-up camera, rotating camera, cutout or hole in the display, under-display camera

Meizu recently introduced a new series of smartphones, U, which stands out for its stylish design. the site has already met a large representative of the line, and now it has reached the more compact Meizu U10.

Characteristics

  • screen: IPS, 5 inches, resolution 1280×720 pixels, 2.5D protective glass
  • platform: 8-core MediaTek MT6750
  • RAM: 2 GB, ROM: 16 GB (+microSD)
  • main camera: 13 MP, f/2.2, phase detection autofocus, dual LED flash
  • front camera: 5 MP, f/2.0
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE), microUSB, GPS (A-GPS support), GLONASS
  • battery: 2760 mAh
  • fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, light sensor, proximity sensor
  • dimensions: 141.9×69.6×8.0 mm, weight: 139 g
  • OS: Android 6.0, Flyme 5.1

Appearance

The new product is practically no different from the Meizu U20: glass on the front and back, the arrangement of all elements is similar, except that the screen (and overall dimensions) is smaller. Both smartphones are similar in design not only to each other, but to the iPhone 4/4s, and the Meizu U10 is more similar to the latter due to its dimensions.

The site took the white version of the Chinese glass smartphone to see how different the models are in the two available colors.

After a lengthy comparison, we can say that the white modification looks less impressive, but is much more practical due to the fact that it is much more difficult to see grease marks and fingerprints on the case.

The white version of the smartphone also received a lighter metal frame - in color it is as close as possible to unpainted aluminum.

Overall, the device looks thoughtful and stylish, and the white color of the case impresses with its practicality - the black modification collects fingerprints so quickly that the more impressive appearance lasts for about 5 minutes at most, after which the smartphone must be actively rubbed with a cloth. The white modification looks good even after two days without any surface care.

Ease of use

Bluetooth and GPS did not cause any problems, and Wi-Fi works almost well - in some configurations of a particular router, the Meizu U10 refused to connect to a network with WPA2-PSK protection, although it worked without problems with other network equipment and exactly the same settings. We recommend checking in the first days after purchase how the device communicates with your home and work access points, so as not to be upset in the future if something goes wrong.

The sound in the headphones does not stand out among its competitors in any way: the maximum volume is sufficient, but there are no high-quality bass or clear highs here. You can listen to music, but don’t expect the smartphone to compete with a decent player. The same can be said about the external speaker - it is as normal as the competitors, both in terms of decent volume and mediocre quality.

Competitors

Which has almost the same density as a glass budget phone in terms of filling, lasts longer, and will also attract attention with its metal body and rounded shape. But the Meizu U10 camera showed itself a little better, and the smartphone is much more attractive in appearance. The main advantage of Meizu m3s is its lower cost - only 3199 UAH versus 3599 UAH.

Meizu U10 loses only in appearance and camera; all other technical aspects are slightly better in Xiaomi: performance is not higher, but games are better optimized for Snapdragon, battery life is higher. Practical users are better off taking the Redmi 3s, especially since its cost is UAH 3,199, but if style matters, then the Meizu U10 will be the right choice.

conclusions

Meizu U10 is an unremarkable inexpensive Chinese smartphone when we talk about its hardware. It performs well compared to its competitors, but it can only be called an outstanding representative of its class based on one criterion: design.

The appearance of the device attracts attention; it is not flashy or bright, but stylish. This gadget looks good both with an evening dress and with a casual outfit. At the same time, the dimensions of the device do not cause discomfort during use, despite the predominance of sharp corners and rough transitions at the junctions of materials.

A nice device is a fashion device with all the consequences: it is impractical, there are no breakthrough technologies or advanced components here, and there is no room for various additional utilities. But it is really beautiful and comfortable. If these characteristics are important to you, the Meizu U10 is definitely worth considering for purchase.

3 reasons to buy Meizu U10:

  • pleasant appearance
  • convenient sizes for everyday use
  • high speed of most applications and shell

2 reasons not to buy Meizu U10:

  • mediocre performance of radio modules
  • glass is an impractical material that scratches quickly

At the end of the summer of 2016, the Meizu company presented its new line of smartphones, represented by U10 and . These are inexpensive devices, with hardware familiar to their price category. Their main feature is their attractive design, with a glossy metal and glass body. This review will talk aboutMeizu U10, which has a smaller display (and therefore dimensions), and at the same time costs less.

For a configuration with memory volumes of 2/16 GB they ask from 148 USD, and from 167 USD for the option with 3/32 GB. The prices indicated are approximate and current at the time of this review. It remains to be seen what a smartphone from Meizu is that costs less than $200.

The technical specifications are almost completely identical.

Appearance, connectors, buttons and sensors

Meizu U10 has received a completely rethought design. Yes, earlier smartphones from this manufacturer also looked good, but now it’s on a completely different level. The front and back panels are completely covered with rounded 2.5D glass.

It is scratch-resistant and coated with an oleophobic layer, making it easy for fingers to glide over its surface.

The metal frames have a rectangular shape, and they have embossed beveled edges, emphasizing the nature of the material.

The following body colors are available: black, white, gold, and pink. Regardless of the color, the panel will be mirror and glossy. In black the device looks simply gorgeous. True, just as long as you don’t touch it. Even after a short period of use, the case is scary to look at because of the many fingerprints and greasy stains.

The oleophobic layer simply cannot cope with them. I’m glad that on a panel of a different color (white, for example), such disgrace is almost invisible.

The arrangement of the elements is quite familiar, except for the 3.5 mm jack. The tray for installing SIM cards and MicroSD storage is located on the left side, and the power and volume buttons are located on the right. The top edge is empty, but the bottom one accommodates a MicroUSB connector with OTG support, a standard audio jack, main speaker holes and a microphone.

There are no usual touch buttons for navigation either on the panel or on the screen. Instead, a universal mTouch 2.1 button is installed under the screen, touch and mechanical at the same time. Used to navigate the OS interface and has a built-in fingerprint scanner. Remembers up to 5 fingerprints, the recognition angle reaches 360 degrees. The sensor is not as fast as the flagships, but the speed and accuracy of operation are more than satisfactory. Product dimensions: 141.9 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm, weight – 139 g.

CPU

The smartphone is equipped with an 8-core entry-level MediaTek 6750 processor with ARM big.LITTLE architecture. The Cortex-A53 cores are divided into 2 clusters: 4 of them operate at a frequency of 1.5 GHz, and the remaining 4 are limited to a frequency of 1 GHz. The role of the graphics accelerator is performed by the Mali-T860 chip. Results of the synthetic Antutu test: from 31 to 40 thousand points. In this example, the indicators depend on the firmware version and the amount of RAM.

In practice, the smartphone confidently copes with trivial tasks. Of course, it is possible to load the device and make you think. But for a device of this price category this is quite normal. Any resource-intensive 3D games can be launched, although not always at the maximum graphics level. Under intense loads, there are no problems with excessive heating of the case.

Memory

The smartphone comes in two configurations: 2 or 3 GB of RAM, and 16 or 32 GB of ROM. In terms of RAM, the 3GB RAM version will offer slightly better gaming performance. And for multitasking there will be a little more free memory. That is, you can safely use the 2 GB version; its performance level is enough for not particularly demanding users.

With the built-in storage, things are as follows. If you need a lot of free space and plan to use two SIMs, you will have to take a configuration with 32 GB. If you want to save a little money and can do without an additional SIM card, the 16 GB option is obviously suitable. In this case, the space can easily be expanded up to 128 GB using an external MicroSD drive.

Autonomous operation

At the beginning of the review, it was mentioned that there are striking similarities between the hardware of the U10 and the M3s. So, the battery is an exception: from 3020 mAh, the capacity has decreased to 2760 mAh. The only logical explanation for such a downgrade can be considered an attempt by the manufacturer to influence the dimensions. As a result, the thickness of the U10 case is 7.9 mm versus 8.3 mm for the M3s.

With average usage, the battery lasts 1 day. In order to achieve work throughout the day with the same operating mode, you will have to learn to save. For example, do not run games, reduce brightness, disable unused network modules, use advanced energy saving mode.

Camera

The smartphone uses a 13-megapixel photo module consisting of 5 lenses. It is complemented by a two-tone flash and fast phase-detection PDAF autofocus. The aperture value is F/2.2. The camera interface is simple and concise, but contains a lot of features. There are separate modes for shooting portraits, macro, panoramas, there is a built-in QR scanner and much more, which I describe in the video below. It is worth noting the presence of manual settings for independently selecting exposure values, ISO and other things.

Daytime photographs will delight you with fairly high detail, good color rendition, and good frame sharpness. Here are some pictures:

The smartphone can create “gifs” (GIF files), an example of which you can see below.

Selfie camera shot:

The maximum video recording resolution is FullHD. During the day, videos are recorded at 30 fps; in low-light conditions, the figure drops to 20 fps. Slow motion shooting supported. The front camera is a 5-megapixel module with F/2.0 aperture. The camera was programmed with a bunch of different filters. And all for the sake of obtaining the effect of smooth skin. Video recording with a resolution of 1080p is supported.

Display

The smartphone has an IPS screen with a diagonal of 5 inches. The image resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels, pixel density is 296 PPI. The image is smooth and beautiful, the colors are pleasant, and you can adjust the color temperature yourself. The maximum screen brightness is not prohibitive (397 cd/m²), but quite sufficient. GFF full lamination technology is used: the image is contrasting, and the touch layer clearly responds to all touches.

The display is covered with protective 2.5D glass with good oleophobic abilities.

Networking capabilities

The combination slot can accommodate two Nano-SIM cards. Moreover, both can work in 2G, 3G and 4G networks. The device is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 BLE with low energy consumption, as well as a wireless Wi-Fi module capable of operating in the 2.4 or 5 GHz bands. Satellite navigation can be provided by GPS geopositioning systems with support for A-GPS, and. Navigation works as expected, as do all other network communications.

Sound

The main speaker in inexpensive smartphones from Meizu is often criticized for its mediocre sound quality. And this despite the fact that there are not so many people left listening to music through speakers. The most common budget speaker is installed here. The volume is enough to hear an alarm, notification or call. And to listen to music you need to use good headphones. Then the sound quality will be appropriate.

Software part

Meizu U10, which are sold in the Chinese domestic market, comes with the YunOS operating system. At the time of this review, the first global multilingual firmware, Flyme 5.2.3.0G, based on Android 6.0, already exists. As a rule, sellers and stores install global firmware before the device gets into our hands. Moreover, self-flashing is not a problem for experienced users.

In addition to the standard Android functionality, the Flyme shell has its own interface and advanced settings. It is distinguished by the absence of a menu button (all icons are located on desktops). In most cases, Meizu software works quite stable. In addition, Flyme is constantly being improved and updated as new software versions become available.

Individual characteristics

For the first time in the mid-budget segment, Meizu uses such a combination of design, body materials and assembly.

Advantages and disadvantages

Pros:

  • looks expensive, elegant and stylish;
  • presence of a fingerprint scanner;
  • high-quality display and sufficient level of performance;
  • nice price, taking into account the design;
  • good display with good oleophobic coating;
  • good main camera and many options and settings.

Minuses:

  • combined slot, you have to give up an additional SIM card or install a flash drive;
  • the non-separable design and glass on the back do not have the best effect on maintainability and the cost of work, respectively.

Who is a smartphone suitable for?

Meizu U10 is a good choice for people who, with a budget of no more than 170 USD, expect to get the most beautiful 5-inch smartphone. In addition to design, the list of criteria can include stable operation of the device, fresh and functional software, decent daytime shots, sufficient performance and a good display.

Our review of the Meizu U10 smartphone

The release of Meizu U10 (and U20) is a kind of experiment by the company: taking a ready-made successful filling and placing it in a premium case. Those who follow new products are indignant, saying, “Ay-ay-ay, Meizu, it’s not good to do this.” But what's wrong with such a decision? Previously, beautiful, high-quality design was the prerogative of only fashion and flagship models. But not everyone was ready to give their hard-earned money for an expensive and shiny high-tech toy. Manufacturers have understood this, so now even budget products under $100 can look very decent. And this tactic works.

The Meizu U10 16gb smartphone features make it one of the best offers in the budget segment. The U10 and U20 line of smartphones was announced in the summer of 2016. The main feature of cheap smartphones is their stylish appearance combined with a high-quality body made of glass and metal. Now we will review the Meizu U10 16 GB black smartphone, which does not have such a large display, which means it costs less.

Meizu U10 design

When developing Meizu U10, the company completely revised its approach to design. Devices produced under the Meizu brand looked good before, but now they have reached a completely new level. The phone is covered on all sides with rounded 2.5D glass. Its surface is covered with an oleophobic coating that improves finger glide. In addition, it is scratch resistant. The metal frames are made in a rectangular shape. They feature raised beveled edges, which perfectly complements the overall style.

We reviewed the Meizu U10 16 GB smartphone on the black version. Also, when purchasing, you will have the opportunity to choose white, pink or gold. The panel, regardless of the chosen color, will be glossy and mirror-like. It seems to us that the device looks most beautiful in black. But as soon as you start using it, the body becomes covered with fingerprints. The oleophobic coating is not able to adequately cope with its tasks, which is why you have to wipe the device frequently, otherwise it looks very untidy. But when choosing other color solutions, the problem disappears by itself. For example, on a white tint, prints are practically indistinguishable.

The review of the Meizu U10 16gb black smartphone did not reveal anything new regarding the arrangement of elements. Everything is in place, except for the 3.5 mm jack.

The top end was left empty.

While conducting a review of Meizu U10 in Russian, we discovered an interesting feature. There are no familiar touch control keys on the bottom panel or on the display. Instead, the manufacturer installed one universal mTouch 2.1 key. It is both sensory and mechanical, and can perform various functions. It can be used to navigate the interface and unlock the device using the fingerprint scanner built into it. In the settings, you can set up to 5 prints, and the recognition angle reaches 360 degrees. In terms of response speed, the sensor does not reach the level of flagships, but the accuracy is good.

The case turned out to be quite compact: 141.9 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm, its weight is 139 grams.

Meizu U10 display

The display is perhaps the main component of any phone, so even in a budget phone it must be of high quality. The optimal display diagonal is 5 inches, and it is built using IPS technology. The picture has a low resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and accordingly a low pixel density of 296 ppi. The picture turns out rich and detailed. If desired, you can set your own color temperature settings.

The maximum brightness level is set at 397 cd/m², which is far from modern flagships, but quite enough for use in the sun. The touch responds well to touches, and the picture turns out to be contrasty. Despite its budget positioning, the Meizu U10 mobile review showed that the display is covered with 2.5D glass with a good oleophobic coating.

Meizu U10 performance

The characteristics of Meizu u680h U10 turned out to be quite good. The very rare MediaTek MT6750 processor is responsible for the performance. Conventionally, it is a Helio P10 stripped down in its capabilities, built on a 64-bit architecture. The chip contains 4 cores of 1 GHz and the same number of 1.5 GHz. RAM can be 2 or 3 GB, and built-in - 16 or 32 GB. In the younger version, after updating the shell to version 6, there was only 8.7 GB left, so you can’t do without a memory card. There is hardly enough free space to store personal photos, what can we say about applications and movies. A flash drive is placed instead of one nano-SIM.

Meizu U10 16 technical specifications may not sound too impressive, but they are enough to perform everyday tasks. Of course, you can load the smartphone and get some slowdowns, but this is normal for its price category. Games run great, but not all run on maximum graphics. Under high loads, the case heats up within normal limits. The new Asphalt Extreme comes only with optimal graphics, Unkilled runs smoothly, but only with minimal detail when most of the effects are disabled. But games like Ninja Spinki work great.

Autonomy

Smartphone Meizu U10 16gb black battery characteristics unpleasantly surprised us. The 2760 mAh capacity will not set any autonomy records. Most likely, the manufacturer made such a decision in order to reduce the dimensions of the case. On average, one charge lasts for a day of use. In order for the device to last more than a day, you will have to save a fair amount by avoiding games and setting the brightness to the minimum level. As you can see, the characteristics of the Meizu U10 phone are not anything outstanding, but they will be enough for the average user who buys a gadget for surfing the Internet and making calls.

Meizu U10 camera review

Meizu U10 32gb camera characteristics are something that the manufacturer did not skimp on, trying to make the device as cheap as possible. The resolution of the main module is 13 megapixels, and its design contains 5 lenses. In addition to the camera, there is a two-tone backlight and phase detection autofocus that quickly focuses on the subject. The camera interface is simple, but at the same time offers the user extensive capabilities. In the settings you can find a separate mode for macro photography, portraits, panoramas and much more. If you have a sufficient level of knowledge, you can experiment with manual settings. During the day, highly detailed images are obtained with good sharpness and acceptable color rendition. Meizu U10 16gb camera characteristics allow it to create interesting “GIFs”.

For selfies, there is a 5 MP camera with F/2.0 aperture. It includes many filters, which will allow you to easily obtain high-quality and varied images. Most of the effects are aimed at smoothing the skin. The front camera records video in 1080p resolution.

The main module is capable of recording video in FullHD format, which is very good considering the cost of the gadget. In daylight, videos are recorded at 30 fps, and in low light, fps drops to 20. Meizu U10 characteristics review showed that, in addition to everything, there is slow motion.

Sound

The Meizu U10 16gb smartphone review has to disappoint you, because, as before, the manufacturer continued to install mediocre-quality speakers in budget gadgets. The volume is enough so that you won’t hear the morning alarm clock or an incoming call, but when listening to music you want to turn it up louder. It is better to use a high-quality headset, then there will be no problems with sound.

Shell

Meizu U10 32gb smartphone review moves on to the software. The version for the domestic market of the Middle Kingdom runs on YunOS. But it’s better to order a modification with the Flyme 5.2.3.0G shell, built on Android 6 version. The shell received a unique interface and functions different from “pure” Android. Meizu U10 32gb black review in Russian showed that the interface works quickly and stably. Over-the-air updates come frequently and bring new features.

Conclusion

Meizu U10 16gb smartphone review in Russian has come to an end, so let's sum it up.

Strengths of the device:

  • Stylish body that creates the impression of an expensive and high-quality item;
  • Good performance and display for the price;
  • Not a bad camera and a variety of settings for it;
  • Price.

What we didn't like:

  • Mediocre sound quality;
  • Average brightness reserve;
  • Autonomy leaves much to be desired.

The Meizu U10 16gb smartphone is perfect for not too demanding users who just need a cheap device with good performance, a good display, a stable shell and support for modern communication standards.

Your rating for the smartphone:

Representing the outwardly premium embodiment of a budget filling, this 5-inch smartphone is created for those who prefer the elegance of glass over the strength of an all-metal body. Vesti.Hi-tech studied Meizu U10 and shared their impressions.

For many users, the “correctly” chosen case material often turns out to be much more important than the technical characteristics of the smartphone. It is not surprising that many manufacturers, having forgotten about plastic, began to “dress” their budget models exclusively in glass and metal, which until recently were considered the prerogative of flagship devices. We recently took a closer look at the smartphone (our review), which replaced the best-selling M2 mini device (under the Meizu brand) at the end of 2015. At the same time, it was no longer in a plastic, but in a metal case. And now the next incarnation is the U10 smartphone, which uses almost the same filling, covered on both sides with impact-resistant glass with a 2.5D effect. Note that the device variants with 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage have 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM, respectively. We got a U10 for testing with a combination of 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

Design, ergonomics

The main focus of the U10 was on a different design of the case, which is a kind of glass-metal sandwich in the spirit of the iPhone 4, with the front and back panels covered with protective glass with a 2.5D effect,

and a metal frame with shiny chamfers. Let us remind you that we chose aviation aluminum-magnesium alloy as the main material, taking care of radio-transparent plastic inserts for antennas. The overall dimensions of the U10, compared to its metal predecessor, have not changed - 141.9x69.9 mm, although the thickness has decreased slightly (7.9 mm versus 8.3 mm), but the weight has increased by one gram - 139 g vs. 138 g. The U10 case seems more angular, while it inherited the previous colors: dark gray, golden, silver and rose gold.

We received a device for testing in a golden, catchy color. It is worth recalling that glass panels readily collect fingerprints, so a smartphone with such a coating quickly becomes untidy. A white (silver) device, on the surface of which fingerprints are less noticeable, has a better chance of maintaining an untarnished “reputation.”

As already noted, the entire front surface of the U10 is protected by glass (the manufacturer is not specified), flowing smoothly along the edges (2.5D effect).

The decorative grille of the “conversational” speaker, like the one, is located above the screen, surrounded by the front camera (on the left), as well as light and proximity sensors (on the right). But the LED indicator, invisible when turned off, is now located to the left of the front camera.

Under the screen, traditionally for Meizu, there is a mechanical mBack key with a built-in capacitive fingerprint scanner mTouch 2.1.

As you know, in addition to fingerprint recognition, its capacitive surface emulates a control panel. Let us remind you what we are talking about: a regular touch (tap) activates the “Back” function, a short press with a hardware “click” returns to the main screen (“Home”), and the same press and hold turns off the display backlight. The "Recent Apps" button is replaced by swiping up from the bottom edge of the display.

On the right edge we put together a volume rocker and a power/lock button, which were placed in a small groove.

A closed slot with a dual tray is located on the left edge of the case. A thin paper clip is useful as a master key for a lock. The tray houses two nanoSIM subscriber identification modules, and the place of the second one can be taken by a microSD memory expansion card.

The top end of U10 is empty.

But the 3.5 mm audio headset connector (CTIA) moved to the bottom end, where there was also a hole for a “conversational” microphone, a microUSB connector for charging/synchronization, as well as a decorative grille (four round holes) for a “multimedia” speaker.

The back panel, covered with glass flowing down the edges (2.5D effect), is decorated with the Meizu logo, just above which there is a place for the main camera lens and a 2-tone LED flash. Only now, unlike, they have been shifted to the left edge and placed in one row.

You can find out the company name and country of manufacture of this LTE smartphone from the inscription at the bottom of the panel.

The dimensions of the new smartphone with a 5-inch screen make it quite comfortable to use with one hand. However, due to the glass coating, the U10 body glides not only in the palm of your hand, but also on a flat surface. This should be especially borne in mind when operating this device.

Screen, camera, sound

The published specifications for U10 screens are the same, so with a high degree of probability we can say that this component of the smartphone has remained unchanged. Indeed, a 5-inch IPS matrix with a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9 and HD resolution (1280x720 pixels) has a pixel density per inch of 294 ppi. GFF (Glass-to-Film-to-Film) full lamination technology, a budget option for OGS, eliminates the air gap between the display layers, which serves as the basis for good anti-glare properties and reduces the reflection effect.

The passport data also indicates the screen contrast (1000:1) and maximum brightness (380 cd/sq.m). At the same time, it is recommended to adjust the backlight level in the U10 manually or automatically (the "Auto-tuning" option). Multi-touch technology allows you to recognize at least five simultaneous clicks on the capacitive screen, which is confirmed by the results of the AntTuTu Tester program. The settings also have the ability to change the color temperature, where colors can be made warmer or, conversely, cooler. For the display, they took care of a very high-quality oleophobic coating.

In turn, the front cameras have a 5-megapixel sensor equipped with a wide-angle 4-lens lens with f/2.0 aperture. But autofocus and flash are missing. The maximum image size in the classic aspect ratio (4:3) is 2560x1920 pixels (5 MP).

Both cameras retain the ability to record video in Full HD quality (1920x1080 pixels) with a frame rate of 30 fps, while all content is saved in MP4 container files (AVC - video, AAC - audio).

As for the shooting modes, along with “Auto”, “Manual”, “Video”, “Portrait”, “Panorama”, “Focus change” and “Slow motion” (resolution 640x480 pixels, up to 60 minutes) and “GIF” "(up to 6 minutes of animation), they also added "Macro" and "Scanner", which were not in . In the settings of the Camera application, you can still activate HDR, and, in addition, decide on the photo size and video quality. Shooting in manual mode allows you to adjust the parameters of shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, saturation, white balance, etc. To measure focus and exposure separately, you must enable the corresponding option. Several filters will still help you create various effects on an image, including “Black and White”, “Oxidized”, “Film”, etc. It’s convenient to switch the viewfinder from the main camera to the front camera and back using vertical swipes (it doesn’t matter, bottom up or top down). But the volume rocker (both increasing and decreasing) is also proposed to be used to release the shutter.

The U10 “multimedia” speaker, located, like the one, at the bottom end of the case, sounds quite budget-friendly. The standard features of this smartphone allow you to listen to recordings from FLAC and APE files without loss of quality. After connecting an audio headset, you are offered to use a 5-band equalizer with presets and manual settings. The Voice Recorder app makes it easy to record monaural conversations (44.1 kHz) that are saved as MP3 files. The U10 does not have a built-in FM tuner, which is quite common for Meizu smartphones.

Filling, performance

Both smartphones, U10 and, are based on the same budget platform - Mediatek MT6750.

It is based on an 8-core processor with two quartets of ARM Cortex-A53 cores, one of which operates at a clock frequency of up to 1.5 GHz, and the other at up to 1.0 GHz. Graphics processing is handled by a dedicated accelerator with two execution units ARM Mali-T860 MP2 (520 MHz), supporting OpenGL ES 3.1, OpenCL 1.2 and DirectX 11.1. In addition, the MT6750 chip includes the MT6176 modem (4G LTE Cat.6), and also works with displays with a resolution of up to 1280x720 pixels and 16-megapixel cameras. The basic configuration of the U10 is supplemented by two or three gigabytes of LPDDR3 RAM (666 MHz), which is controlled by a single-channel controller. Let us remember that for testing we received a device with a combination of 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

Having received the same processor as the one, the new smartphone scored approximately the same number of “virtual trophies” (37-38 thousand) in synthetic AnTuTu Benchmark tests.

A similar picture is observed when assessing the amount of horsepower and the efficiency of using processor cores (Geekbench 4).

The low screen resolution made it possible to achieve a good frame rate on all settings (High Performance, High Quality and Ultra High Quality) on the Epic Citadel visual test - 54.2 fps, 54.0 fps and 45.8 fps, respectively.

On the universal gaming benchmark 3DMark, where the new product was tested on the recommended Sling Shot set (ES 3.1), an uninspiring result of 302 points was recorded for gamers.

The total number of points collected by the smartphone on the cross-platform benchmark BaseMark OS II was 223.

After turning on the U10, of the 16 GB of internal memory, approximately 9.6 GB were free. As in, to expand the available storage, it is possible to install a microSD/HC/XC memory card with a maximum capacity of up to 128 GB. It should be noted that the dual tray into which the memory card is inserted is universal, and if you take one place in it, you will have to sacrifice the installation of a second SIM card (both nanoSIM formats). Support for USB-OTG technology allows you to expand the built-in storage of both smartphones in another way by connecting a regular flash drive.

The U10 wireless communications suite includes dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 4.0 (LE).

One radio channel limits the simultaneous operation of two nanoSIM cards (4FF form factor) to Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) mode. Unlike the U10 settings, there is no VoLTE technology option ("voice over LTE"). The subscriber identification module for data transmission (by default occupies the first place in the tray), as well as the priority network mode (4G by default), is selected in the corresponding menu. Traditionally, only two “Russian” FDD-LTE bands are available for Meizu smartphones - b3 (1,800 MHz) and b7 (2,600 MHz), and the lowest frequency b20 (800 MHz) is ignored.

GPS and GLONASS satellites can be used to determine location and navigation. This is confirmed by the results of the AndroiTS GPS Test and GPS Test programs. Among other things, A-GPS technology is also supported.

The battery capacity of the U10 (2,760 mAh) decreased by 260 mAh compared to (3,020 mAh). The reason for this may be the more elegant body of the new smartphone, the thickness of which has decreased by 0.4 mm. When filling the battery to 100% from a standard adapter (5 V/2 A), it will take about 1.5 hours.

The AnTuTu Tester battery test was completed with a result of 7,236 points (versus 7,657 points). A set of videos in MP4 format (hardware decoding) and HD quality at full brightness played continuously for more than 6.5 hours.

In the "Power Management" section, depending on the load, it is recommended to switch the smartphone from the "Balanced" mode to the "Energy Saving" or "Performance" mode. In addition, the “Power Consumption Optimization” section suggests not only managing the sleep mode of applications, but also taking advantage of flexible settings to save battery power - “Smart”, “Super” and “Custom”.

Software Features

The U10 smartphone runs on the Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system, the interface of which is replaced by the proprietary Flyme OS 5.2.3.0G shell. Let us remind you that among the shortcomings was not the latest version of Android OS (5.1).

The Flyme launcher allows you to split the screen of the U10 to simultaneously display the work of two applications, in particular, “Settings”, “Video” and “Maps”.

The parameters of the mTouch 2.1 fingerprint scanner in the U10 have also not changed. He is still able to recognize the owner’s finger from almost any angle (360 degrees), while the response speed does not exceed 0.2 seconds. It is recommended to use up to five registered fingerprints not only to unlock your smartphone, but also to securely access files and applications.

Purchase, conclusions

So, the main difference between the U10 smartphone and U10 is its glass body on both sides, which, moreover, looks more impressive in appearance. But the basic hardware of the new device has remained virtually unchanged, while the fast fingerprint scanner remains in place. In addition, a small change in the capacity of the non-removable battery had virtually no effect on the autonomy of the new product.

On the other hand, the impressive glass case is not only easily soiled in use, but also quite slippery, which increases the risk of accidental damage to the device. In addition, the U10 inherited other “sores” when, with the mandatory choice between a second nanoSIM card and memory expansion, the 800 MHz LTE band is still “overboard”.

However, the rather attractive price remained unchanged, which for the U10 with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, at the time of testing, was 12,990 rubles, and for the 3 GB/32 GB version - 14,990 rubles. They are exactly a thousand cheaper in similar configurations. This difference in price is obviously considered quite justified. After all, “beauty is a terrible force.”

Results of the review of the Meizu U10 smartphone

Pros:

  • "Glass" design
  • Good battery life
  • Fast fingerprint scanner
  • Attractive price

Minuses:

  • Slippery and easily soiled body
  • Choosing between installing a second SIM card and expanding memory
  • Lack of support for LTE b20 frequency band (800 MHz)

The Meizu company was not famous for its huge abundance of different models. But following the expansion of the model range by other manufacturers, it also decided to release several new models. In particular, the line is represented by the addition Meizu U10 and Meizu U20. We will talk about the U10, which has a smaller diagonal and, accordingly, an affordable price.

Design

We are not talking about a flagship, but the company tried to ensure that the design was flagship. The highlight of this gadget is its attractive design, which combines metal, glass and gloss. In general, the company never had any special problems with design: smartphones from Meizu looked good before, but now they have moved to another level. Perhaps the smartphone looks attractive due to the fact that 2.5-D glass covers not only the front panel, but also the back surface. But unlike many competitors, the glass is scratch-resistant and practically does not collect fingerprints due to the use of an oleophobic coating. You can verify this by running your finger over the gadget: it should glide easily across the surface. Meizu u10 Available in black, white, gold and pink. But, as already noted, glossy glass is used in the design and regardless of the color, the surface will always be mirror-like. But, despite the effective oleophobic coating, this state of affairs will persist until the gadget still collects fingerprints after active use, even if there are fewer of them than in the flagships from last year without the appropriate coating. True, in white colors this drawback is less noticeable, even if black looks more prestigious.

Concluding the description of design features, one cannot help but note the rather atypical location of the 3.5 mm connector, which users will find not at the top, but at the bottom end, where the micro-USB connector is located.

Filling

Well, the design of the smartphone is good, but what about the internal filling? Here everything is a little more modest: the device is equipped with an entry-level Mediatek processor - MT6750. Of course, this is quite enough for everyday tasks, especially since the U10 has 2 or 3GB of RAM, depending on the choice. Relatively resource-intensive 3D applications, of course, run, albeit not at maximum settings. As for the camera, a thirteen-megapixel module is used here, similar to those in the company’s other budget phones.
